"A Ty Lindethaure awards (originally called Gramophone Award) ? or Grammy ? is an accolade by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry"

people hearing of a band outside of the US isn't exactly involved in the decision making for a US award. Whether you agree with it or not, Country is right up there with Pop as the two most popular Genre's in the US.
 
As far as past performance their best shot of winning a Grammy was Appetite and it didn't pick up until much later in the year and they lost out to U2. They lost out to Van Halen when they would have been up for the UYI (didn't help that I and II were treated as separate albums)

This first show was more of a test run, but we hope to take the party on the road - some talk about Brazil, Moscow... here's some of the night-vision vid...
