This album is one of those albums that will be around for years and years.

It just doesn't seem like the kind of album you listen to for a week and then put away.

People will keep discovering it as time goes on....

/jarmo

...in no way do I want CD to fail but I will delete my account if CD is still in the US Top 20 in one month after it's release!

You are kidding me! Come on its a rock record ONLY available at Best Buy, more and more people are going to go there before christmas and sales are not going to drop out of the top 20 before the end of the year. People will need to hear and see it and NEED to walk into a Best Buy, I think of all 3 of the records released this one will be hanging in the top 20 long after the others, I would Bet on that. If its not in the Top 20 the 4th week after release I WILL DELETE MY ACCOUNT Chum

Relax everybody Cheesy Axl won't have trouble putting food on the table anytime soon.  I am sure this cd will sell well but I think the fact Axl has made no effort in promoting this album speaks volumes to how much he really cares about mainstream success! Best Buy bought in and the record co. and GNR got there money. It will go platinum and be successful however it may not be this huge storm of GNR everywhere like it was fifteen years ago.  The industry has changes and kids today like the catchy buble gum crap thats just the way it is.  In the end as long as u love it thats all that really matters and that Axl keeps putting out music.  Hopefully it wont be another 15 years cause I ll be pushing Social Security  Sad

I agree! Cheesy
Well, it's not official, but someone that works in a CD store said: Chinese Democracy is already gold here in Brazil (50.000+ copies sold) and it's going platinum really soon! It's not out everywhere and there's almost no promotion. It's really impressive I'd say.

yeah, well they both suck ass compared to chinese democracy.  soon the sales figures will reflect that.  i don't think it's going to take 20 years of people discovering it or whatever.  i expect sales numbers to increase steadily each week as more people hear the music in bars and at work and from people singing it, etc... just give people a chance to hear this amazing music.

and notice most of those records are from around a decade ago.    if they were released in 2008, they probably wouldn't put up the same numbers.

Eminem has a new CD coming out early next year. I guarantee it sells no less than 800k 1st week.

I read an article on Rolling Stone talking about horribly Best Buy has handled this release.

That has a lot to do with the lower sales.

Probably?  There is no chance of that for most, if not all of those albums.

Umm,the Eminem albums do not suck ass. How bout The Beatles, you know, possibly the most important band ever, how are they? Anyway, it is more important for an album to have legs. Kind of like BuckCherry's  15. It remained on the charts for two years and had strong sales as opposed to a big opening week. It doesn't matter how great selling 300,000 albums is, after ten years and 13 million the media will not look kindly on that.

Really? What would you like BB to do? Is there a chance that Axl not doing interviews or performances is hurting sales? I would imagine GNR went with BB since they agreed to purchase a certain number of copies.

It's 2008. If you really think this album is going to take off AFD style, with sales growing each week, and catching some of the albums on that list, you are crazy.

The album did what it is going to do. End of story.

So the album is platinum in Australia the first week and gold in the UK, not bad

Why is Pink so big in Australia?  She's outselling AC/DC there which is crazy to me

that's a bunch of fucking bullshit.  i'm sorry,b ut it really pisses me off that axl put his heart and soul into this amazing album and outside people dr. pepper and best buy fuck it up for him.  this is an absolute disgrace.  this should have been the number one album in every country.  after all, it is the most anticipated album in the history of rock.  how could an album that's the most anticipated not be the best selling?  it doesn't make any fucking sense at all.

best buy fucked axl.  they fucked the fans.  AND they fucked the music world at large because this was supposed to be a time when amazing and beautiful rock returned to its throne.  i can't say how pissed off this makes me.

What has hurt the album more? What you posted or the lack of Axl speaking/performing. ChiDem could be the greatest album ever but this isn't 1991 and Guns are no longer close to being the biggest band in the world.

As I said before, it's GOLD here in Brazil, but I'll wait 'till the official announcement before confirming this. It's #1 and we've got no promotion over here - not to mention that in several cities the album isn't out yet!

FOR WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 6, 2008
Compiled from a national sample of retail
store, mass merchant, & internet sales
Research done between November 22-28. ? 1998-2008

That's fucking impressive. Only 3 days and already gold (50.000+ copies sold!). Brazil loves GnR. ok
