Thank you.  I watch the Christmas Carol (1951 version) nearly every year with my father on Christmas eve.  I also read the play adaption last year in Literature class as well as seeing the MSG Christmas Carol show in 2000.

It's just a great story and Alastair Sim (Scrooge) is a freaking god.

P.S. I like pretty much all of them (including the Mr. Magoo one), but the only one I despise with a passion is the 1938 version. It is terrible.

It's November.

Bah humbug

You don't understand the subtext in the story which is prevelant whatever time of the year.

Scrooge symbolizes all the greedy faceless corporate goons who have nothing and only wants to take it out on his hard working employee (Bob Cratchit) not even thinking for a second that he has a table to put food on.

Scrooge is just all alone with his money, kinda like Axl...

I LOVE the Mr. Magoo version.  It is, by far, my favorite animated version..far better than the Mickey Mouse/Disney version!  I, too, am partial to the Alastair Sim version overall.  To see such a brilliant comedic actor do the role so very well (and seriously) is a treat.  I also own the Patrick Stewart version from a few years back, and think that's passable, and I will occasionally watch the Albert Finney musical version.

Nice to find another "Christmas Carol" lover! Smiley

My brother is playing 'young scrooge' in an xmas play this year.  So no doubt I will have the story played out for real in front of me...

i think the written version of the story is dull like most of dickens works, especially a christmas carol...sure the moral of the story is important but why does it take a 150 year old story to tell the moral?...im sure there are other stories out there which tell the moral just as well but dont get a look in because of books like A Christmas Carol, its regurgitated year after year after year

desptie that im a bit partial to the film scrooged, the one with bill murray  Grin

By the way, George C. Scott was fucking ace in the 1984 version as well.

Yeah, I've not been able to find the George C. Scott version on DVD (NTSC format, as I'm in the states).  I'll have to look again this year and see if I can track it down.

Well, since the discussion of the story is happening in another thread, I figured I'd give the thread it's yearly bump. Smiley

Yup, I own it.  Smiley

In case it's not obvious, this is my favorite X-mas story.  I own a variety of versions, most of them on DVD.  My favorite has to be the Alistair Sims version....but Patrick Stewarts more recent version isn't half bad, either.   His "one man show" version is better, though (I have a bootleg DVD of the London Stage version...which, I think, has also appeared on PBS here in the states).

If you like the Muppets version, go looking for the Mr. Magoo version.  Very good. Smiley
