I'd try to out-optimist you and say Pittsburgh in 5, but I'm not sure I can be quite so hopeful.  Either way, I want to see the Pens get the cup.  Can't wait for Saturday...

CANUCKS AGREE TO TERMS ON EXTENSION FOR VIGNEAULT

The Vancouver Canucks have agreed to terms on an extension with head coach Alain Vigneault that keeps him under contract through the 2009-10 season.

GRANATO RETURNS TO HEAD COACHING JOB WITH AVALANCHE

The Colorado Avalanche announced Thursday that the club has appointed Tony Granato as the team's head coach.  Granato previously served in the role from 2002-2004.With Granato behind the bench, the Avalanche compiled a record of 72-33-17-11, giving him the top coaching mark in franchise history based on points percentage (.647).  Granato owns a .605 career winning percentage as an NHL head coach (72-44-17), the second highest in franchise history.  "We're extremely pleased to announce Tony Granato as the Avalanche's head coach," said general manager Francois Giguere in a statement. "Tony has gained tremendous coaching experience over the last five seasons behind the Avalanche bench.  He has great knowledge of our depth chart, a strong admiration for our players and really enjoys working with the organization's young and talented group of athletes."

BLACKHAWKS SIGN BYFUGLIEN, BURISH AND WISNIEWSKI

The Chicago Blackhawks re-signed left wing Dustin Byfuglien, right wing Adam Burish and defenceman James Wisniewski on Wednesday.

ROENICK SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL WITH SHARKS

TSN has learned that the San Jose Sharks have re-signed veteran forward Jeremy Roenick to a one-year contract. TSN has learned that the contract is worth roughly $1 million, or slightly more than twice what he earned last season, however the paper work on the contract must still get approval from the NHL.

STARS SIGN HULL, JACKSON TO CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

DALLAS - The Dallas Stars are taking the interim tag off co-general managers Brett Hull and Les Jackson. The NHL team said Thursday that Hull and Jackson have signed contracts to remain in their positions through the 2010-11 season. They were named interim co-GMs last November after Doug Armstrong was fired.

To all Stars fans--the loss to Detroit is my fault. My friend and I watched the game at my house. (lol)
To NHL fan--it's going to be a great series. I would love to see Pitt win, but my brain says Red Wings in 5.
But watch out for the Stars next year!

i say detroit in 6....they just have too much experience over the pens...

Oh, I've picked a side.  I'm a Pens fan through and through....I just wanted to see how game one went before I would realistically predict the series.  At this point, I'm still hopeful that the Pens can make a turn-around.  They were out-classed tonight, that's for sure.

Agreed.  I'm a huge Pens fan, but "postponing the inevitable" is the phrase that comes to mind.

Yeah Osgood has to be in their heads and making them wonder if they're gonna score at all. The inexperience is really showing in this series. They will be back though they are too good of a team to not get more chances at a cup.

Yeah i think its mostly the experience thing. I'm seeing them compared to the 83 oilers a lot. That was a great team but lacked experience and got killed in the 83 finals but we all know what happened after that year.

undisciplined penalties from Gill... And the second one cost the Penguins. One goal lead, but several great opportunities. Hope the series will be 2-1 after the game.
