these asteroids make trips around the sun every so often. we currently have no way of accurately predicting the exact location after so many trips around the sun because we cant accurately calculate the effect that the sun has on the orbit of the ateroid. that inability to be accurate is whats calculated into the '1 in 45,000'

i would also remind everyone that Shoemaker Levy 9 which hit jupiter was only found a few months before it hit. the real threat is from the one that we wont even see coming. nasa takes years to plan shit and thats what will fuck us because we wont have time to 'tug' the asteroid into a different orbit. but thanks to amateur astronomers and the internet the government could never keep it a secret. so you'll at least know its coming  hihi what nasa should do is build the spacecraft NOW and have it ready for deployment 'in the event of'

I seriously don't give a damn.  Chalk another one up to the "ways I might die over which I have absolutely no control" list.  I just wanna know WHERE it's gonna hit, so I can get a good view.

Too bad it's not sooner.

I wonder if I would be able to make some money off it if it were to land in my backyard...

Nah. Not if it were to happen right now, anyway. Space belongs to the US, remember, so the rock would belong to Bush.
