i may be the only one here who thinks this but...

F-Led Zeppelin!, two reasons.

first i cant have any respect for a band that steals songs and puts their own names into the credits... i just cant, no matter how rockin they were (and i'll admit i was a fan for a long time.. but shame on them).. and second... when 'bonzo' died- they made zero effort to keep going- he was the drummer- and i doubt he wrote any of the songs that they did'nt steal in the first place. he was the easiest to replace out of the four.. but instead they just decided to keep the money they've stolen and hide out. even if i lived in england- and could afford the outragous price the tickets are going to be- i still would'nt go-- i'd rather go see Lynyrd Skynyrd- half the band died in a plane crash and they somehow managed to keep going--

Whoa put down the crack pipe there. That stuff will kill ya. They stole no songs that i know. I have never heard any band play those songs before them. With the exception of train kept a rolin. Many bands have done that one though. So what? They felt it would be wrong to continue without him. I see nothing wrong with that. They obviously thought it was a huge part of the band and he was. Didn't write any songs? Does moby dick ring a bell? He is one of the greatest drummers ever and NOT at all easy to replace.

they are the worlds greatest coverband!

Inspired by is the more appropriate term for most of those songs.  And a lot of that stuff is credited, so it's not stolen.  When The Levee Breaks, You Shook Me and Boogie With Stu being good examples.  And a lot of those other 'stolen' songs were originally folk arrangements, like "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Gallows Pole".

Admittedly, some of their songs were big steals.  Stuff like Dazed and Confused (from Jake Holmes) and The Lemon Song (an amalgamation of Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters).  But I think Led Zeppelin did it better, and while it doesn't necessarily justify it, it means I'm more than happy to listen to it.

And some of their originals are pretty spell binding as well...things like Kashmir, Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop or No Quarter are pure originals, and still utterly amazing.  Led Zeppelin were just very very diverse in their influences, and not afraid to expand on a good idea.  That's my view anyway.

"babe i'm gonna leave you" on Led zeppelin-1 was orignally credited as written by led zeppelin,  actually only one song on that album was'nt insipired/ripped off from someone else....  its the same thing as if me and my new band wrote these way cool new songs called Welcome to the jungle, Whole lotta Rosie, etc...

Wrong, it was originally credited as "trad. arr" because they covered it from Joan Baez, who had also covered it thinking it was a "trad. arr".

In addition, have you ever HEARD any of the originals of these songs?  Listen to, for instance, the Jake Holmes version of Dazed and Confused, it is almost a completely different song.  The music is in a different key, the solo and bridge are utterly different.  And the lyrics are different.  The only real similarity is the 'dazed and confused' line and the walkin rhythm.

You Shook Me is also significantly different to its original incarnation.

It's not like some new band "writing these way cool new tracks called welcome to the jungle" its like some new band taking some old tracks they love, and giving them their own completely different sound.  Like, for instance, the Gnr cover of "Heartbreak Hotel" or "Jumpin' Jack Flash", or the AC/DC cover of "Baby, Please Don't Go".  If you've heard those, and their originals, they are COMPLETELY different.

i did'nt want to deal with the reality of this issue either, has any one actually heard the stern interview i posted up>? i'll be the first to admit they were a tight band, they put on a great show and played those songs great, ... but they did originally credit themselfs with writing those songs,? in the interview the guest talks about how credit was givin sorta silently over a period of time--
? and just because i sing the words to my new bands song "welcome to the jungle" a little slower, add bongo drums and a childrens church choir could make it "almost completly different" too.? ?oh-? and theres no way in hell im giving axl rose any royalties either for my new hit song. as zeppelin (or their managment- they're just to blame here too) felt it was needed.

i'm sorry if your a real big zep fan, i was as well, and i can still listen to the music, but my feelings towards these guys has totally changed-- this is sorta like being told santas not real.

Well I'm gonna try and get tickets for the London show.  But knowing Harvey Goldsmith it will be impossible to get a pair!

The invited 'industry' list will number in the thousands.

Hardly surprising!! I wonder what this'll be like. Could either be amazing or totally shit. I bet I get through, fork out ?125, and then they announce a full tour at 50 quid a pop or something. Typical.

The surviving members of LED ZEPPELIN have confirmed they will reform for a special show at London's 22,000-capacity O2 arena on Monday, November 26 as part of a tribute to Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun, who died last December.

Tickets cost ?125 each (approximately $254) and will be allocated on a lottery basis through the AhmetTribute.com web site. Names will be chosen at random. There will be seating and standing tickets and fans will be able to express a preference at the web site.

Due to expected unprecedented demand, tickets will be limited to two per successful applicants per household.

Tickets will not be available from any other source. Please do not take adverts or publicise any company who claims to have tickets. They will not be given any.

Profits will benefit the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides scholarships to universities in the United States, United Kingdom and Ertegun's homeland, Turkey.

The bill also includes PETE TOWNSHEND, BILL WYMAN & THE RHYTHM KINGS, FOREIGNER and PAOLO NUTINI.

Founding members Jimmy Page (guitar), Robert Plant (vocals) and John Paul Jones (bass) will be joined by Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham, on drums.

Robert Plant said in a statement: "During the ZEPPELIN years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord. For us he WAS Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator ? this performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long-standing friend."

Mica Ertegun, Ahmet's wife and president of The Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, commented: "Ahmet attributed his success to his excellent education, and his ability to recognize innovative artists that touched us all. It was his wish to endow music and liberal Arts scholarships that would enable gifted children to reach their highest creative potential. The Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund was founded with that goal. He would be very proud that LED ZEPPELIN have chosen to reunite and headline a benefit concert in his name featuring so many of his friends. I would like to thank all of the artists for their generous contribution to help make Ahmet's vision a reality."

Mick Jones of FOREIGNER stated: "Ahmet's combination of charm, humour, irreverence and above all his great passion for music made getting to know him one of the brightest highlights of my life."

Paolo Nutini: "Meeting Ahmet Ertegun in New York two years ago was a complete honor. He touched my life with his amazing personality and opened a few doors when I was starting my career. He even invited me to sing with Ben E King and Robert Plant at Montreux last year as part of a celebration of his musical life. He was a special guy, a real gentleman and it's such a shame he's gone but a massive tribute that all his music lives on ? and will do forever. God bless Ahmet."

ZEPPELIN reformed for Live Aid in 1985 with Phil Collins on drums. Page and Plant have played together sporadically since then. A further ? brief ? reformation occurred at Atlantic Records' 40th anniversary bash in New York in 1988 with Jason Bonham on drums.

Three weeks prior to ZEP's O2 show, Jimmy Page will be honoured as the Living Legend at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour, Classic Rock magazine?s third annual award show. This year the awards will take place on Monday, November 5 at London?s prestigious Landmark Hotel.

ZEPPELIN's O2 show is being organized by legendary promoter Harvey Goldsmith.

Commented Goldsmith: "Ahmet introduced me to America when I first started promoting. He became a friend and was my mentor. Our industry deeply misses such a giant of music. It is a fitting tribute that these great artists have all come together to perform in his memory. The proceeds of the evening will go to The Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund for student scholarships. One of these scholarships will be for a music student in the UK each year."

Bill Curbishley of Trinifold management added: "To have had Ahmet regard me as one of his close friends over the past 40 years was indeed a rare privilege. To be involved in setting up this event, plus a music trust in his name and in his spirit is also a great honour and privilege for me."
