GNR will sell much more than JAY-Z
ITS THE GNR COMEBACK ...
And , its 2 complete diferent kinds of public

I love GNR as much as anyone on the board, but in the year 2006 Jay-Z is a much bigger player in the musical world than GNR. His mug will be plastered all over MTV and other music outlets. Outside of maybe Eminem or Diddy he is the biggest name in pop music culture.

It is just retarded to go up against him when you can have all the spotlight to yourself a week earlier.

i disagree for SEVERAL reasons:

1. they don't compete with each other.

2. the buzz Jay-Z will create will actually HELP gnr - more people will be reading album reviews that day, and thus more will see that gnr has an album out.

3. financial success of an album has very little to do with release date. in fact, many huge albums in recent years were released in february and had consistent success throughout the year with an increase 10 months later during the holidays.

anyway, who cares!!! i love thanksgiving week. and this adds to that!!

Maybe I am the oddball here. I just would think that rolling out of a new product and new line-up the way GNR is you would want to be the center of media attention when you release an album that has been in the making for so long. Not having to share it or be "one-up'd" by someone else who takes the attention away from you. I guess that's just me.

There's a rumored release date and already some or saying it's a bad day to release it?

Why am I not surprised?  Roll Eyes

This  sthe most interesting rumor in years, and still some need to point out how it's not the right date.....

/jarmo

Well to be fair they're discussing the financial aspect of the record, all it means is that they care enough about GN'R to hope they do well on the charts. I personally think it's kind of pointless because I'm sure the album will have lasting power, but putting it up against Jay-Z was guaranteed to spark discussion like this.

They put it out when they think it's the best time, we buy it.

That's the thing.

Obviously there's always gonna be other albums competing against each other. There's probably no perfect release date in that sense.

Where did appetite debut???

I dont know, but here's what Jarmo's site says:

# "Appetite For Destruction" reached #1 on the Billboard charts on the 23rd of July 1988.
# Charted #1 for five weeks in USA.

It debuted at some random place in 1987 and then rose through the ranks based on its strength. And that is what peolple remember  ok

Rollingstone.com, could this really be the date! Cheesy

Holy Eff! Guns N? Roses? ?Chinese Democracy? Out November 21st?
From the annals of We?ll Believe It When We See It: A friend of ours with a retail source has told us that the long awaited Guns N? Roses album, Chinese Democracy has gotten a firm release date of November 21st. Under normal circumstances we?d laugh at such an assertion ? after all, this album has reportedly cost over $13 million and has been ?due out? since 1998. But whenever somebody has actually managed to get Axl to speak in the past few months, he?s said it?s coming out before the end of the year. Plus, there was that G N?R tour announcement the other day that alluded to a release date some time in the next two months. Dare to dream, folks. Dare to dream.

LOL.

People have BITCHED and moaned for years in wanting GNR to release CD.

We now have a substaniated rumor of a release date and people STILL bitch and moan about it NOT being a good day due to another album coming out?

WHO THE FUCK GIVES A FLYING RATS ASS?Huh

CD is coming out. ?Maybe this rumor is just that...a rumor and NOT the actual Tuesday but it's still going to come out and it will always be up against another record coming out as well.

I dont know what to think of this?I find it hard to belive that managment would tell the stores when its coming out before making a huge announcment to the world with the release date...

But Rolling Stone is pretty credible..Weel have to wait and see I guess

Jay Z will sell a tremendous amount of albums, at least 600k opening week.

This date is as good as any guess. November is the consensus month.

Jay Z may beat Axl in sales for the week but Axl will smoke him in the long run. I'm so fucking pumped, but I won't believe it till Axl and Merck confirm it.

Why does everyone think Jay Z will sell so much?
His comeback CD? Where did he go?

There are a LOT of other countries besides the US.
Rap is not nearly as big anywhere else as in the States.
Thank God.

And once again, it seems to be my point in every post, but:
Why does it matter what the public thinks?!
I'll be way too happy to have a copy of Chinese Democracy in my CD player to read some damn billboard charts.

Rap/Hip-Hop is the main genre here in UK, unfortunately.

if axl gets out there with these next couple of shows, tells the crowd that November 21st its gunna happen, then gets MTV to do live coverage, then CD could definately outsell Jay-Z. ?BUT, AXL MUST get the word out. ?I went to one of the hammerstien shows and i have tickets to the MSG show. ?Hammerstien proved that even with the little buzz Axl had going from his interview on KROQ that he can get an entire city buzzing! ?Imagine if they showed the MSG show live on MTV! ?A November 10th showing where Axl says CD is coming out on November 21st! Fucking brilliant if you ask me.

I think it's b/c they have to prepare the advert material in advance, based on what Lesty said in another thread.

lol...I'm so excited I cant work.  I cant think about poles and zeros and transfer functions right now  Grin

I'd love to believe it, but it's just another merit-less rumor at this point.

If Axl puts out a single that appeals to the old fan base soon, I think he has a chance at beating Jigga. He'll beat Jay Z in Canada, for sure. ?

That's the whole point though. Everyone would love to see MTV talking about Guns and there release and whatnot, yet that whole week will be spent with Jay's mug plastered all over the place hyping up his big release.
