Hard Rock - no way in hell are GN'R metal.  I wouldn't really say there are elements even, except maybe when Slash used the BC Rich in YCBM, and even then it's only his tone and not the music.  Too much blues to be metal.  VH1 clearly have no idea what metal is.  And they call SCOM metal?!  Idiots.  Embarrassed

GnR made a genere by them selves... Its not plain Hard Rock, and its not plain Metal, its not plain Blues..

its a meltingpot, with all the generes in it.. they even have som Folk Rock element in it..  rofl

Blues based hard Rock, but to deny the metal elements is foolish.  WTTJ and Coma, to give just two examples are metal songs.  It may not sound like Immortal, but then neither do Iron Maiden and they're metal.

Theres a big article on MTV.com talking about the greatest metal bands of all time, they made their own top 10, with no sign of GUNS N ROSES, which brings up a good question? is GNR a metal band or a hard Rock band?
Id like to just hear some input

hard rock, metal can be bon jovi to pantera..

Guns N Roses are, and are ever been, a Hard Rock band.

Axl ran an ad looking for a "Heavymetal Punk Glam guitarist, Blues influenced."  Slash answered.

That was the story they gave on an Mtv interview in 1988.

Anyway, I think that is the perfect description of what they were when the original band played clubs and recorded Live! Like a Suicide and Appetite for Destuction.  As they went on they added some Folk(Gnr lies)and became less glam.  Use Your Illusion was the product of this transition, It had the anger of Metal with the Bluesy sound and mellow Folk.  They also showed a lot of growth with Epic Rock.  This album was a nice melting pot of styles.

The most important thing about GnR music is that every song sounds completely different from the last, no one song sounds like another.  This still holds true today with the new songs.  Plus they have added more styles to the mix like industrial and teckno, while doing Jazz improv between songs in concert.  That is what makes this band so great,  They dont put any limits or boundries on themselves.  Instead they embody all music and fit it in under what is called Rock n Roll. peace

I think Hard Rock.  But there's people around here that say they only listen to metal yet they wear all kinds of GNR shirts.  I'm not sure if they actually listen to them or if they're being posers....

Gn'R is definitly Hard Rock, 'cause there are a lot of differences bettwen them and a metal band, like Iron Maiden for example...
