My babys gotta locomotive

« on: July 18, 2006, 09:58:01 AM »

Theres a big article on MTV.com talking about the greatest metal bands of all time, they made their own top 10, with no sign of GUNS N ROSES, which brings up a good question  is GNR a metal band or a hard Rock band?
Id like to just hear some input

Well, i would say Guns N`Roses is a Hard Rock band, with some Metal Elements... Back in the days.. when we dident have
all the Black Metal bands we have today, we could talk about GnR as a "Metal band" I would say Hard Rock band, with Metal elements...

btw. Oh my God is a more Metal sounding song then a Hard Rock song.. too me anyway..

To answer the VH1 question, the song was WTTJ that was number 2, behind only Sabbath's Iron Man.

Secondly, GN'R is a blues based hard rock band with shades of metal.  Not a lot, but just a little bit, for example YCBM and ISE.

Well i would have said hard rock aswell. But i tunes where i have all my music including all my guns stuff, seems to be slightly confused or they have a shite way to classify the music.

the genres that GNR are classed under

AFD - Rock
Lies -  Metal
UYI 1 - Rock
UYI 2 - Metal
TSI ? - Hard rock
The live album - Metal
The "civil war" EP - Heavy Metal
GH - Rock

so looks like even i tunes doesnt know how to classify GNR.

Guns N' Roses was never a heavy metal band.  They have too much blues and groove in their songs to be considered metal.  As Scott Ian said of Judas Priest, they were the first pure metal band because they removed the blues element that Sabbath had in their music.

Metal may rock, but it doesn't roll.  GN'R had too much roll, too much groove to be metal.

Having said all that, the new band feels a little more metal to me, particularly in their interpretation of some of the old songs.

Huh  Huh nervous

GNR has never been anywhere near metal. GNR is rock/hard rock with a punky edge (AFD and TSI?).
