Well, "Ride The Lightning" and "Metallica" is two of the best albums ever made...buy those two. "Master Of Puppets" isn't bad either...

"S&M" is good, but not THAT good. The symphony sometimes destroys the classic songs...

I'd say that u should buy every Metallica album from "Kill 'em All" 'til "Metallica". After "Metallica" it has only gotten worse...

ride the lightning and the black album especially Wherever I May Roam and Unforgiven

I know people dont take much notice of metallicas more recent albums but i think that the songs Bleeding Me, The Memory Remains and Low Man's Lyric are excellent

imo the album Garage Inc is awful

My favourite Metallica albums (songs) are:

Kill Em All (Seek And Destroy)
Ride The Lightning (Fade To Black)
Master Of Puppets (Master Of Puppets)
And Justice For All (One)
Metallica / Black Album (The Unforgiven)

Anything after the black album...no thanks, not for me.

Meh, the Black album was good, but it's not close to their best.

'Master of Puppets' is their best album, I reakon.  'Orion', 'Master of Puppets' and 'Sanatarium' are all wonderful songs.

Also, make sure you download 'One'.  It's worth it just for the guitar solo! [yes]

I have Live Shit but it doesn't play properly on my CD player  Angry

Black album is way the best, other excellent tunes are:

Nothing Else Matters
Unforgiven
For Whom Bell Tolls
Fade to Black
Sanatarium
Mama Said
Until it Sleeps

I don't like their really heavy stuff, they mostly have a fucking amazingly cool tune then completly ruin it with crappy drum cack.  One is a prime example.

The first half of 'One' is a really cool, powerful rock song.  The second half is an awesome, air-guitar-worthy solo that goes on for about five minutes.  What's not to like??

The best Metallica Songs are:

One
Call of Ktulu
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Enter Sandman
No Leaf Clover

If you are a newcomer go for the Black album, its easy to get into. And if you like it try the older stuff.

One at the S&M concerts is probably better than the studio version

The first half of one is amazing.  The bit where it goes "Darkness, encompassing me, all that I see" etc (those probably aint the words by the way, i'm shite at reciting lyrics until I hear the song being played!) totally ruins the tune for me.  An air-guitar-worthy solo is the sweet child solo, the one solo has a lot of mindless thrashing about on it.
