Not to harp on the subject, but I have no fucking idea what VR was thinking with their single selections/order. They supposedly were this down n' dirty hard rock band, then we get FTP's  Roll Eyes & a video for DLT that was meant for STB. I hope they get their shit together for the 2nd album cause the honeymoon is over & they somewhat wasted a full touring schedule supporting poorly chosen singles.

However, Contraband is still a great album.

i do agree on some points

it was good until DLT. fall to pieces is def a single tho!!

idve re-released set me free as a proper single like most first bands do eventually,
slither was a great choice (much more of an intelligent song than set me free as well)

third single would have to be fall to pieces, (i think the 2 rockers, then ballad for third 'rule' works time and time again). if set me free wasnt rereleased and we had slither as first single, idve gone with sucker train (with the train video!!)for second (or summat like that).

then if we're really milking the album, something a bit different (mid tempo rocker) like superhuman wouldve been a good choice, followed by the final ballad, epic type song you got no right, saving lovin the alien as an album track to 'discover'

I would've had them do something like this:

1) STB
2)Slither
3)YGNR
4)Illegal I
5)a live version of DLT. Krystal Steal could've starred in the DLT video shot at the Roxy. That would've been a nice, sleazy way to end Contraband! yes

I don't count SMF since it was already released & FTP blows.

I knew u would say something about illegal I! I think it was even voted out 1st in the Contraband survivor on here & it proves your point about people liking different songs. I always luv when the cd gets to song 4 & 5 & then i skip 6-8, but it seems lots on here luv 6-8, so go figure?

like FTP or not it was a number 1 song so.....

1.Slither It won a fuckin grammy give it some respect
2.You Got No Right
3.Fall To Pieces
4. Sucker Train Blues
5.Loving the Alien

Why they dont play LTA is beyond me, why they have this thing about being a "ROCK" band when they have great ballads sucks also.

Just put out the most single worthy songs on the radio and do the heavy stuff to prove u are a ROCK band at gigs.

they have wasted two great songs in LTA and YGNR. I hate that.

Well what's the deal with YGNR being released?

I thought they were recording a new version of it to release as a single?  Or is that getting lost like the Tears in Heaven cover?

Goddamn D, thats painful watching that lady get plowed into.

Yeah, I've always wondered why they've ignored LTA so far live. My first listen through Contraband, I thought that was going to be their sig. ballad. I wonder what the deal is with the band & that song.

I guess I'll just have to admit being in the minority on FTP. I think it's about as gay as gay gets & I know it charted high, but I think it's one of those that does more damage than good to most potential VR fans. Kinda like November Rain for GNR, I just don't get it.It's cool to slow things down once in awhile, but FTP crosses the line IMO.

DLT was a very bad choice. I personally love the song but it just wasn't single material. I think the band has even stated that they didn't wanna release it the suits did. I also think Contraband has run it's course, although YGNR would probably renew some interest, i think it is time to move on and concentrate on album #2, I would bet this is what the band wants to do as well.
It is said the new disk will be dropped around Christmas, I hope but i would say we wont get a new album until next spring.

Agreed.  The song fucking rocks, but "Sucker Train Blues" was the clear single to me, and it was a mistake to choose "Dirty Little Thing" over it.

As for the first two singles, I dont think theres much room for dispute.  Whether their your personal favorites or not, "Slither" and "Fall To Pieces" did exactly what they were supposed to and carried the album nicely.

Im not sure what the plan is for a possible "You Got No Right" single.  Id personally love to see it - original or re-recorded.  "Come On, Come In"s (a song I like a lot, by the way) current airplay might push that out of the picture, but if the follow-up to Contraband is pushed into Spring 2006 as I expect, a "YGNR" single may become more likely.

Possiblie because loving the alien sounds like a pop song. I wish that song wasnt on that album, i shall never understand why is was put on there with those great tracks.

I agree that DLT was a bad choice as a single, although the song is excellent. But maybe the company's stupidity made the band's position better (against the company's wishes) and it can good be for the future.

I think they did alright.. Slither was a big hit and even though I dont like FTP is was pretty big. I think it also kind of backlashed a bit... It was just on all the time and it sounds pretty cheesy.? I love the fact that DLT was a single whether it was big or not (Although I still hear it everyday on the radio). Lastly, "Loving The Alien" is fucking awesome...... FTP is a pop song, Alien isn't...

I see that the album has been pushed back, that is no big surprise. So we may get another single after all.

I think YGNR would do pretty well as a crossover single. I like it alot better than FTP, although it did very well, i just never got into the song. Always thought it was highly overrated, but it did what it was intended to do and did well.

The rockers left , i wanted STB's for a single but i think they had problems editing it for a single, i think that is why it didn't get released. I also think Big Machine would do well as a single. It has actually gotten some airplay in a few different markets already.

As for LTA, that is a great song, definitely not a "pop" song. I like where they went on this song. Sounds like something off of STP's Shangri La album. I really dont know how LTA would do as single material. I just hope there follow up album has a few more songs in the vein of LTA. I like the rocking stuff as much as the next person but i also like the "artsy" stuff.

Or so Splat says.....

Although it's not unlikely, don't believe that until it's from someone official.

Is come on come in a single or just a video? Its a pretty unconventional way to do things, to release a video but no single, these days anyway. same with set me free.
