« on: July 14, 2005, 07:54:34 PM »

I have always wondered just how much money members of the band made during their stint.  I remember reading one of the early Rollingstone Axl interviews where he claims to have made around 2 mil.  Just how much money would you guess they made from royalties and touring alltogether?

Also when Matt, Gibly, and Dizzy were brought on were they "members", or just "employees" of the band?

Axl and Izzy made the most money, since they wrote most of the songs. Its definitely alot more than 2 million. Probably tens of millions, but I dont know an exact figure. Gilby, Matt, and Dizzy weren't real members of the band, more like disposable heroes.

Sometime during the Illusions tour, the band got together and counted their money.  After $100 million dollars, they stopped counting....

Funny how Dizzy is listed as a member of the band on Live Era Wink

From 87-93, GNR made 57 million total.  Axl's share was 43%.

Dizzy is the Gimp.  He lives in a cage in Axl's basement and only gets out to rehearse and tour.  So.....he doesn't get out much!

Since Dizzy has been brought up, i have a question. Since Dizzy has supposedly bean a real member of GNR, where was he in 94-95? If a GNR album had been released in that time frame, he would not have been on the album. For a brief moment in time, GNR was Axl, Slash, Duff and Matt. So where was Dizzy?

I think he was running Axl's errands for him.  I think that the guys just felt sorry for him and nobody had the heart to tell him to leave.  I don't even think he was plugged in during the UYI tour!

I think a 1999 Spin article showed what they made and showed the formula Axl came up with for royalties.  I think they split ticket revenue evenly.  Rollingstone had an article on it once too.  Jarmo is familiar with this and can describe it better.

DTJ, its true. But alot of people dont seem to remember this little tidbit of info. I've seen a few others in the forums mention this also. If Axl ever returns, and grants some interviews, I hope someone asks him about what was going on in that brief moment in time.

I seem to remember reading waaay back that axl was cut a $32 million check for his share of what I think was just the UYI tour. Maybe that also included his share of sales for the 2 albums as well?

The scary thing is that for how much coin axl has, it could be that much more if only GNR had put a little more thought into their merchandising since the early 90's. Although, I've heard/read that axl's not allowed alot of merchandising to spite the former band members. Anyone else ever read this?

every member of the current GNR get a salary

it is not split equal ways

Jon Bon Jovi is the only member of Bon Jovi signed to the record label, he pays the bandmembers a salary

Axl probably pays them 20,000 a gig or so and he takes home 2 to 3 hundred thousand per show.

GNR made way more than 57 million between 87-93

they made that probably on record sales alone

their tours made 200 million all together easy.

On the subject of Dizzy, this really kinda bugs me. The man has been in the band since 1990 and yet some people still say that he is not a real member, or Axls lapdog etc etc. At the end of the day people who say this. Axl wanted a bloody keyboardist in the band and asked Dizzy and he accepted simple as that!!! He is a fully fledged member and at least he has stuck around to see it all through instead of leaving. And what is his reward for that? He gets accused constantly of not being a real member of the band!

It was Slash that came up with the formula

I don't if this has ever been mentioned, but back in the days (1991-1993) the band had $20.000 to spend at each hotel they visited. They could buy anything they wanted from the shops inside the hotels...
