If Axl wants maximum hype for the album I think he needs to have a commercial during the Grammys or maybe even at the Academy awards. Millions of people watch the Grammys and even more watch the Academy Awards. If he won't do this, I think a good idea would be to have a commercial for the album in the theaters right before the movies start. Maybe during one of the summer blockbusters. I know CD is gonna be #1 on the charts right when its released. But if he wants maximum exposure for CD, he HAS to promote it where people of all ages will be exposed to it. So I think showing a promo in the theatres would be the best option possible at this time. And I believe if we don't see some kind of commercial/promo for the album by the end of this summer, 2005 IS NOT the year for 'Chinese Democracy'. I know that when an announcement is made CNN,MSNBC,FOX News, etc. will mention the release date. But thats not enough for Axl to reclaim his throne. He needs maximum exposure, and he needs it soon!!

umm, I don't think he needs to use the Oscars and Grammies for that. The television audiences are not substantial enough to explicitly target those events.

I still say we see the first single connected to an early summer movie.

I think it's time to just let the new music do the talking. Despite all the BS in '02, I still think the general public is willing to give new GN'R a shot- but they've got to deliver something tangible to believe in. Not just more broken promises about the "greatest album ever" by the "greatest frontman ever" coming soon! Unfortunately, I think a GN'R "commercial" at this point would be regarded as little more than more "hot air" from a band that still has not delivered.

I agree with you Vector. I think GN'R needs to attach a "rocker" to one of the big summer movies in '05. A totally kick ass music video to go along with it wouldn't hurt either. It worked so well in '91 with T2 and YCBM and that should be their formula once again this time around...

Axl has a management company and record label to do the promotion
work for the CD. If they're not bright enough to figure out how to promote
the most mysterious, talked about, and anticipated rock CD in the last 10 years,
then GnR deserves to fail. But as amazing as the music could be, and as much
$$ as they put into promotion, it is up to Axl to show his face, speak his mind
and show the world he's not a reclusive freak.  peace

I don't think the Grammy's or the Academy Awards are the way to go: I do not think it's that big of a 'rock' audience.

Attaching a new song to a movie might do the trick (T2).

I think the best way to go is: announce themselves for some big festivals and in this way create some kind of a buzz.  This will get people talking in the music industry: journalists, fans etc.

Than 'drop the bomb': set a release date (album and single), some interviews, site update (pictures, artwork, introducing the band).

After that release it: mid may at the latest I think, a few weeks before the festivals start.

They should probably tape one of these shows and show it on American TV, to promote themselves a bit more over there.

Well that's my two cents

Everyone will recieve an email, with Chinese Democracy being the subject. Of course we'll all open it, and then the next day in the post, a very small parcel will arrive. Inside the parcel will be a chip (sciencey chip, not a chip as in Fish n' Chips). We attach the chip into the USB port in our computers, and then a file will be installed onto the computer, telling us how to get the ChiDem album in five simple steps. We follow these steps, and a rumbling is heard from the heavens. A voice in our heads (Axl's)? tells us to go outside. We do, and five seconds later, the album, in all its blazing glory drops into our hands.

All he has to do is release the album.

Stop it!  Stop it!  Don't you get it?  There will never, ever, ever be a commercial for Chinese Democracy.  Ever.  Think about it people:  When was the last time you saw an advertisement for an album on TV?  Not exactly common.

And save your "But Gn'R aren't exactly common" comments.  The only time an album is advertised is for ordering on TV, like the Greatest Hits was.

Ugh.  Waiting for this album is so damn frustrating.            rant

Stop it!? Stop it!? Don't you get it?? There will never, ever, ever be a commercial for Chinese Democracy.? Ever.? Think about it people:? When was the last time you saw an advertisement for an album on TV?? Not exactly common.?

Here in Sweden I see them all the time..... I saw Pearl Jam's "Greatest Hits" being advertised a while back. Obviously they advertise all the albums I'd never buy most of the time.

maybe some short teaser in TV would be cool. It would only last a few seconds. First, black backround. Then there will be a big explosion, and when smoke has been cleared. there would read the ralease date.  There will be no mentions what that teaser is all about. People will just see a date. But just when the teaser is almost over. There will be a flash of GN'R logo, just like in the movie "The Exorcist" when the devil's head flashes. You know, like the blink of an eye.

All Axl really needs to do is get on stage with Elton John again. Do two or three tracks and get back in black baby.

All they have to do is release a single, a video, then the album.

Nothing they do will turn this into a Pop album that sells millions in the first week alone, infact this might have a slow climb like AFD did back in the day. They have to build their name with the music, because it is a different sound than the old band. If you launch some huge marketing campain it could back fire when Beavis and Butthead clones go looking for AFD 2 and find something different. Axl's tallest hurdle will be seperating Guns N' Roses from Guns N' Roses.

What this band needs is a music fan (obviously not just one, but the general music public) with no strong ties to the band and history behind this album to flip between stations and stumble into a rock station playing Chinese Democracy or The Blues or whatever their first single is going to be and say this song is great then be told who it is...... that will start Gn'R's climb back to the top. Otherwise the link to the old band and Velvet Revolver will crush them under unneeded pressure.

♬It don't really matter You're gonna find out for yourself♬

That?s exactly me of 2003 when I first heard Chinese Democracy. On the net though.

Yep, I can?t agree more. You?ve moved a lot forward, nay?
Not that I care about sales, but as an index of their penetration, the alleged 80 million was not largely brought by obsessive fans. It?s Love for the music from  Music fans that moved the mountain. Well not only the music fans but also the general public rocked with GN?R music.  That?s it. Now New GN'R to new general public.
And I think GN?R members know that.
