Look at the other groups out in the mid-late 60s . They were way ahead of their time.

Whisky Bar (Alabama Song) isn't a cover in the truest sense of the word. It's a section of a 1930's German opera, which the Doors reworked to make it into their own song.

In the past I've supported this band on here, but I got a bad history with this  band. I respect their talent and influence they have on fans, I still think they're a good band. But everytime  I got into this band , bad stuff happened to me, they're like my bad luck band. One  year when I was 15, I was highly into this band, but my family got into a feud and stopped talking to each other for a long time, I had a horrible school year also. Then like this year , right before this summer started I get back into them when I watched this documentry on tv how Jim Morrison supposedly faked his death to escape from Paris back to USA and now owns a ranch in Oregon. But listen to this .... Angry after I borrowed the movie "The Doors", when I was asleep , a drunk friend of my cousin's wanted to do something crazy before he returned back home to Nebraska, shaved my long hair off ! So enough of this band for me.

I've started listening to them a bit more recently. I love the way some of their songs just descend into improv. kinda songs.

Anyone want to recommend a good starter album?

Start at the begining with The Doors.
But if you go with a greatest hits type album, you will get all the good tunes of pretty much each album.

Yeah, I like The Doors too. Jim Morrison was one of the true Rock n' Roll frontmen that ever existed.

Best.Band.Ever.

Its a shame now that Manzarek and Krieger seem intent on raping the wallets of their fans and spewing out endless reissues etc. Also dragging the name through the mud with Ian Astbury doesnt help either.

Too many bands tarnish their legacy these days dont they. Nothing to do with this site of course.

Fave tunes: The Crystal Ship, When the Musics Over, LA Woman. Amongst others....

One of my favorite bands, and as already noted..Jim Morrison is the ultimate prototype for a rock star ok

To many favorite songs to list but I love The End, Roadhouse Blues, and Love Me Two Times, to name a few.

Doors are one of my fav bands and surely one of the best ever existed!

Jim Morrison is one of the best frontmen ever, along with Axl Rose and Fredie Mercury.

My favorite song is People Are Strange.

Love The Doors.

Hyacinth House or Crystal Ship battle for my favorite song.

I like the tour with Astbury, he's the only singer except for Vedder maybe, who can pull that off and not be an insult.

All been discussed here:

love the Doors have done for a long time - they have a timeless sound.

not keen on ever seeing the latest incarnation with Astbury though.

Have seen Echo and the Bunnymen do a fantastic live cover of Roadhouse Blues, and also VR cover Five to one at Hammersmith - that was bloody great!

Val kilmer really pulled it off in the movie as well. credit to him.
