Are messageboards a guilty pleasure for you?

Because they are for me.  I wouldn't want to be caught dead looking at HTGTH.  Not because I'm ashamed of GNR or anything like that.  But to me, messageboards...or the whole image of being a regular viewer of one, is that of a "geek".  I can assure you if you saw me on the street you would never guess I go, and post, on messageboards....I go to a big university, play a varsity sport, get good grades, have a good social life, so i feel embarressed if someone sees me looking at a forum.  But I love it, and it's fun.

So is this a guilty pleasure to anyone else?

Nope its common knowledge with workmates i post on here because im always on it during slow times at work, one thing im not is a geek if the subject matter was of a geeky nature then yes you could say that but being a hardcore fan wanting to find out whats going on is not geeky.

Well you can do both really. having a real complete life and still being a fan who wants to know what's going on with his fav band.

That doesn't make you a geek. I go on message boards (well, this one and mine - Not related to GN'R) and I don't see myself as a geek. I'm just looking for informations.

I'm not saying I think there's anything wrong with it.  But for instance, my girlfriend once saw me looking at a messageboard and she kinda laughed and was like "you're on a messageboard?"  So to other's it may not be cool.  So that's why I kinda keep it a secret; hence it being a guilty pleasure.

But seriously, I don't give a shit if people think I'm a geek for going on Gn'R messageboards. Hey it ain't like I don't have a social live, cuz I do! A good 'un. I just like to find out what's goin' on and discuss a bunch of random shit here in the off-topic place.

It's not really a guilty pleasure for me... but it's weird when one of my friends come over and I have up HTGTH or Metal Sludge or something like that.  I'd probably browse this forum at school but the teacher's there are incredibly strict about the internet, about everything that isn't google or contains the words "Education" is blocked, and they have a teacher that sits at a computer all day monitoring what students do.

I mean back in the day when I was young (and no, not the days of horse and buggys) I got all my GNR info from RIP, Metal Edge, and other such magazines, this is another outlet to get that info and faster than waiting for print. 

I am generally interested in what is going on with this band and not to mention being able to interact with everyone else is fun for the most part

I remember college...people were so opinionated in my school about what was cool and what was geeky.  Screw that!  I like seeing what's going on with one of the few bands I follow.

haha true...but someone at a dragon ball Z message board might have asked the same question as I have and someone may have responded "well it's not like we're looking at a GNR message board or anything"

idk i guess it just depends on ppl's views.  But I think the vast majority of ppl would think looking at ANY message board, GNR or not, is kind of "geeky" or "not cool."

It is kinda funny, people that have like thousands of posts...i know i dont i started over when acct got deleted by someone who was on my computer...hahaha real funny,,but how many times do you want to hear about the delayed release of an album and so on. my son thinks it funny that i go to this messageboard, but hell hes in there playing warcraft which he is addicted to, so i dont take it personal..
