WOMEN were told last night to insist sexual partners use condoms to cut a risk of cancer.

The peril of unprotected sex is greatest among those who have the disease in their womb or cervix but have not been diagnosed.

British researchers have discovered that a chemical in seminal fluid speeds the growth and spread of those cancers.

Womb cancer affects 6,000 women a year, killing 1,500.

Cervical cancer ? notoriously difficult to detect ? hits 2,800 women annually and kills nearly 1,000. Most cervical cases are diagnosed through the routine NHS screening programme.

Women who miss smear tests are already at risk of a late diagnosis which increases the risk of death.

The latest study was conducted by a team at the Medical Research Council?s human reproductive sciences unit.

It found that semen had a dramatic effect on cancers, accelerating tumour growth in women.

Doctors traced the cause of the problem to a chemical called prostaglandin.

This behaves like a hormone and is found in concentrated levels in semen.

It is also present in the female reproductive organs ? but at levels 1,000 times lower. Study leader Dr Henry Jabbour said: ?Sexually active women should encourage their partners to wear a condom to prevent increased exposure to the prostaglandins that may make their condition worse.?

Sex is already linked to the spread of cervical cancer from person to person.

Almost all cases are caused by the human papilloma virus, which is spread by making love.

I reckon that's a load of drivel. If you believed all the different scientists then every single piece of physical matter is a carcinogen, to suggest semen causes cervical cancer is the most evolutionary backward thing I've ever heard.

I am surprised how your responses guys, not one of you seem to show concern for women ..

Hw would you react if you mothers had a cancer ?

Since you don't seem to care about your potential girlfriends, do you at least care about your mothers ? ( who probably have sex)

well..... it`s not like men don`t care about their potential girlfriends or whatever...

it`s just the content of that study, which is really....weird. it`s like saying getting children causes cancer... i mean are people supposed to not have sex without putting on condoms anymore? it`d definitely be the final victory against cancer.....

you can`t do everything some health experts are telling you i think... ok

My gynecologist said the higher risk of papilloma virused women ( the greater cause of cancer in women, an STD) are between ages 15 to 25.

A woman doesn't havr to have multiple partners, first time virgins get it, simply because the man has it.

And before men laugh, if you don't know you are carriers of the papilloma virus ( and again, medical studies show that over 1 man out of 2 carries it), you probably don't know it can give you PENIS CANCER.

Damn, bad men, bad!

On a sidenote, is papilloma this dog?

I know some gay men also has it, but then again there's no worry if they're not BI.

Oh and my mother doesnt have cancer, but my sister did have, does that count?

I guess, since I care about her, I'll tell her to stay outta dick, just to be on the safe side.

I do not understand why you men don't take this seriously? It's been on all news, everywhere, bbc, yahoo, you name it.
Men do have a responsibility in the spreading of sexual transmitted diseases, semen fastens the growth of cancerous cells, it isn't a joke, it isn't feminism, it isn't hate against penises, it is S C I E N C E.

Women die every year.

How can you men sometimes say that cancer is horrible and yet, care more about sex than someone who will eventually get a cancer because there was no condom ?

Did you know that the hormone present in the semen is also a hormone that fastens child delivery, and that if you are a few months pregnant, you can miscarriage because of the Protaglandine hormone ?
Do you know that from 8and half months of pregnancy, gynecologists say to women to have sex as often as possible because the prostaglandine will fasten the delivery ?

Bet you don't.

You just laugh it off, and it's sad, because it proves that to this day, most men ignore a lot about women's health and its issues and how hard it can be for a lot of women.
