I can't wait for the final lineup but that mystery is all part of the plan. I think everything Axl does is 100% strategic.

Lets not get carried away with this 'excellent marketing strategy'. Whilst im excited as anyone about all of this, crediting the camp and management etc is a bit much. Someone even said genius?? Come on...theres been zero marketing for years so to go from nothing to this is a big step. But this is only what other bands etc have been doing properly for years. Yet GnR fans again thinking its ahead of its time and outside the box. Lets get it right. This is all great, brilliant in fact but only what we have all been saying, suggesting and wanting for many years now. Credit where credit is due yes. The promotion has been good. But, hell thats what people are paid to do. All about momentum now. Lets keep this going. :-)

The credit is due isn't it? Even if that's their job, you don't hurt anyone by complimenting people on doing their job well.

I might have missed it without re-reading this thread, but has anyone suggested the promotion is "ahead of its time" or "outside the box"?

I think most people are just happy and impressed of the coordination, timing and scope of the promotion. I'm certainly not saying this hasn't been done before by others, just as good. Just happy GN'R now are one of those who pulls off this kind of thing.

I still would love to see a way for them to play the ultimate US media event... Super Bowl. Obviously the Halftime show is covered by Coldplay, but there are several major company parties that week, like Maxim, Playboy, ESPN, etc... Even Metallica is now announced as playing the night before the game. Welcome to the Jungle is played a dozen times in each NFL stadium every week, they belong at the Super Bowl.

I think this is unfair.

I know that I personally, and was hardly alone on this, ripped the shit out of them when they weren't getting it done.

If you hope to maintain any sort of credibility, you have to give props when they get it right.

The only thing I would object to at this point is some sort of revisionist history.  They are killing it right now, no question.  But if someone tried to come back with how they've been killing it for years, that's obvious horseshit.

kinda off topic kinda not.....listening to Boomer & Carton (sports radio) over here in NYC. A caller asked them if they were going out to Vegas for GN'R reunion shows and the whole crew said yes kinda cool, the caller said he was going as well and that it is being hyped up around the country. Rest of the morning they have been playing a bunch of GN'R when back on from break. I think with a little more Promo this could be huge like stadium huge.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the moderate fans are excited!

John.. I heard them talk about it too...

They also play Velvet Revolver often when coming back from break. So somebody in the room is obviously a big fan.
