On July 2nd...

Slash And Kelis To Receive O2 Silver Clef Awards

30th June 2010

Nordoff Robbins today announced that guitar rock legend Slash will receive Hard Rock Ambassador of Rock Award at this year?s annual O2 Silver Clef Awards at The Hilton, Park Lane. Slash will be presented the award by friend and fellow rocker Ronnie Wood. American R&B singer-songwriter Kelis will pick up the Raymond Weil International Award at this year?s awards. This year?s 35th awards luncheon, which has become a key event in the music calendar, is held to raise money for Nordoff Robbins and will be hosted by Sharon Osbourne. It will take place on Friday 2nd July and will be attended by guests including some of the music industry?s highest fliers, most prolific characters, artists, celebrities and supporters of Nordoff Robbins.

Saul Hudson, better known by his stage name Slash was the lead guitarist of iconic hard rock band Guns N? Roses whom he recorded with between 1985 and 1996. He later performed the eponymous Slash?s Snakepit and co-founded Velvet Revolver with his former bandmates. His debut solo album Slash was released in April of this year. Slash has received critical acclaim for his guitar skills. Time Magazine ranked him #2 on its list for the ?10 Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time?. He was awarded ?Best Guitarist? prize in the 2005 Esky Music Awards in Esquire Magazine, and in 2007 he was honoured with a star on the Rock Walk of Fame, being placed alongside Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix.

Rolling Stone guitarist and close friend of Slash, Ronnie Wood will present him with his Hard Rock Ambassador of Rock Award. Wood and Slash have been known to play together in the past and have most recently announced that Slash is getting ready to join Ronnie in the reunion of The Faces.

Slash said earlier today, "I'm more than honoured to be the recipient of the Hard Rock Ambassador of Rock Award! Feels sort of like being Knighted, sort of. Cheers to Nordoff Robbins!"

Kelis is a BRIT Award winner and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. She became known worldwide on her Neptunes produced debut album release in 1999 ?Kaleidoscope? that featured the controversial ?Caught Out There?. Having sold in excess of 5 million albums, ?Tasty? has so far been Kelis' most successful album to date, selling over 2 million worldwide and earning critical acclaim upon release. The album also featured her biggest hit, "Milkshake?.. Most recently she had a hit with her dance record ?Acapella? and she is set to release her new album ?Flesh Tone? on 6th July. She performed at this year?s Glastonbury festival before heading back to the States for her US tour, and then will head back to the UK for a national tour in October.

With an impressive roll call of previous Award winners and industry favorites, including Rod Stewart and Sir Cliff Richard, this year?s event will be no exception and will feature winners of the highest talents and calibre. Now in its impressive 35th year, the O2 Silver Clef Awards Lunch is a highlight in the music social calendar. The event, which has so far raised over ?7.5million for Nordoff Robbins, also features an auction of one-off music memorabilia items and other money-can?t-buy items.

A little on the award:

Ronnie Wood presented the Hard Rock ambassador of rock award to Slash, who said it was a "big honor" to receive an award connected to the Nordoff Robbins charity. "I'm a big believer in the power that music has to heal, so this is really important," he said.
