First off, Im not bashing the new band or the old band...ive seen the new line up 6 times and think they are awesome....but which version of GNR has cancelled more shows? the original or the new line-up?  Just thought it would be interesting if anyone had the stat line on that one.....

I don't have any official stats on the subject but I'd have to say the old band just cuz they toured for a longer period of time.  They had their fair share of cancellations back in the day.  But the new band is catching up pretty quick.  Let's just hope they get things rolling again soon.

From GNRontour.com

We'll take these year by year since there are a plenty.  Of course these are not official counts, I'm just going by gnrontour.com.  I could've missed a show here or there.

1988 - 34 complete shows cancelled.  2 shows (a couple songs) done without Axl due to throat problems.  So if you want to count those, that'd be 36 total shows cancelled in 1988.  So, let's just say 36 shows cancelled in 1988.

1. 02.13.88 - Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, AZ
opening act: T.S.O.L.
audio/video recording?: no
notes: This show was probably canceled, due to Axl's vocal problems.

2. 03.04.88 - Lakeland, FL
opening for: David Lee Roth
notes: This show was canceled, as was the entire month of booked dates opening for David Lee Roth.

No touring in 89, 90, just a couple appearances, video shoots, etc.

1991 - 8 shows were cancelled by my count.? The show in Bristol, CT was rescheduled and then cancelled.? So we'll count that as 1 cancellation.? I tried to throw in shows that were played prior to the cancellations to try and give reasons for the cancelled shows.? So now we've got 42 shows cancelled through 1991.

35. 06.13.91 - Pocono Downs, Wilkes-Barre, PA
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was eventually canceled at this venue and moved to Philadelphia.

36. 06.15.91 - Lake Compounce Amphitheatre, Bristol, CT
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was rescheduled to 9.28.91.

36a. 09.28.91 - Lake Compounce Amphitheatre, Bristol, CT
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was eventually canceled because of nearby residents that feared of a riot.

37. 06.21.91 - Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol, TN
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was eventually canceled in favor of the Knoxville 6.26.91 concert.

07.02.91 - Riverport Amphitheatre, Maryland Heights, MO
opening act: Skid Row
set: Perfect Crime, Mr. Brownstone, Live And Let Die, Dust N' Bones, You Could Be Mine, I Was Only Joking [Intro] / Patience, Double Talkin' Jive, November Rain, Welcome To The Jungle, Civil War, 14 Years, Drum Solo, Guitar Solo, Godfather Theme, Rocket Queen
attendance: 19,000
audio/video recording?: audio, video [pro-shot]
notes: Infamous riot show. Before 'You Could Be Mine,' Axl mentions how the line "With your bitch slap rappin' and your cocaine tongue you get nothin' done" was in the AFD liners. Axl tells a great story about taking a bus to St. Louis when he was 17. During 'Rocket Queen,' Axl spots a fan taking pictures. He tells the security guards to take the camera from the fan, which they do not. Axl then jumps into the crowd and punches the fan! He then gets back on stage and says, "Thanks to the lame-ass security, I'm going home." The band leaves the stage and a riot ensues.

38. 07.03.91 - Riverport Amphitheatre, Maryland Heights, MO
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was canceled.

39. 07.04.91 - World Music Theatre, Tinley Park, IL
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was canceled.

40. 07.06.91 - Sandstone Amphitheatre, Bonner Springs, KS
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was canceled.

07.25.91 - Pacific Amphitheatre, Costa Mesa, CA
opening act: Skid Row
set: Perfect Crime, Mr. Brownstone, Bad Obsession, Live And Let Die, Dust N' Bones, Double Talkin' Jive, Civil War, I Was Only Joking [Intro] / Patience, You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Welcome To The Jungle, 14 Years, Drum Solo, Guitar Solo, Godfather Theme, Rocket Queen, Bad Time [Intro] / Sweet Child O' Mine, Only Women Bleed [Intro] / Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Estranged, Instrumental Jam
audio/video recording?: audio, video [incomplete]
notes: Axl goes off on Steven Adler. 'Welcome To The Jungle' is started over because some guy in the audience is flirting with Axl. The show is ended early because of technical difficulties.

41. 07.26.91 - Pacific Amphitheatre, Costa Mesa, CA
notes: This show was canceled.

42. 08.21.91 - Oslo Spektrum, Oslo, Norway
opening act: Skid Row
notes: This show was canceled due to Axl's vocal troubles. He flew to Paris to see a specialist during this time.

1992 - 8 more shows cancelled in 92, bringing the total to 50.  Lots of rescheduled dates in 92, apparently Duff was really sick.  Most of them they ended up playing though.

01.14.92 - Erwin-Nutter Center, Dayton, OH
opening act: Soundgarden
set: Nightrain, Mr. Brownstone, It's So Easy, Attitude, Instrumental Jam, So Fine, Welcome To The Jungle, Live And Let Die, Double Talkin' Jive, Civil War, Wild Horses [Intro] / Patience, You Could Be Mine, Move To The City, Drum Solo, Guitar Solo, Godfather Theme, Rocket Queen, Sweet Child O' Mine, Hotel California / Only Women Bleed [Intro] / Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Paradise City
audio/video recording?: audio
notes: Axl slices his hand open on a sharp part of his microphone stand during 'It's So Easy.' Slash talks to the crowd while Axl is getting medical attention. Slash & Gilby then jam on guitar and then the band plays 'So Fine.' When Axl returns, he misinterprets what Slash had told the crowd and calls Slash a "punk motherfucker!" To which Slash replies "I'll kick your fucking ass!" The band then breaks into 'Welcome To The Jungle' before tempers flare even further. Before 'Double Talkin' Jive,' Axl tells of a false story in the press that said he fired Doug Goldstein (GN'R's manager). Before 'Sweet Child O' Mine,' Axl apologizes to the crowd, saying they're gonna cut the set short a few songs so he can get stitches on his hand.

audio/video recording?: audio
notes: A very quick show, as Duff was pretty sick. Axl introduces 'Patience' by saying, "This next song was written by Izzy Stradlin, someone who I'm pissed off at because I miss him greatly." Slash breaks away from the norm and doesn't play a guitar solo before the 'Godfather Theme.'

2006 Info gotten from HTGTH and gnrontour.com - I'm not gonna count the Stones date that was cancelled because that had nothing to do with GNR.

06.21.06 - Hallenstadion, Zurich, Switzerland
opening act: Avenged Sevenfold
notes: This show was postponed to July 1st

07.10.06 - Frankenstadion, Nurnberg, Germany

notes: This show was canceled, due to the Stone's tour being rescheduled.

36. November 6th, 2006 - Portland, ME @ Cumber County Civic Center?
?
Notes: Cancelled due to limitations imposed by local fire marshals.
Opening acts: Papa Roach, Sebastian Bach

37. November 29th, 2006 - Milwaukee, WI @ Bradley Center [CANCELLED]

38. December 13th, 2006 - Fresno, CA @ Save Mart Center [CANCELLED]?

April 21st, 2007 Osaka, Japan @ Intex Osaka (Postponed. New date TBA)
April 22nd, 2007 Osaka, Japan @ Intex Osaka (Postponed. New date TBA)
44. April 27th, 2007 Johannesburg, South Africa @ New Market Racecourse (My Coke Fest 2007)
45. May 1st, 2007 Cape Town, South Africa @ Kenilworth Racecourse (My Coke Fest 2007)

So there you have it folks, by my count at least the old lineup wins, or loses I guess, with 57 cancellations to 45.

I forgot about the 2 abbreviated shows in 88 without Axl, so that'd make it 59 to 45.  The new lineup still has a little ways to go.

Yeah, in 2001 18 shows in Europe were cancelled.

pretty Interesting stats although those stats are a bit lopsided when you take into acount the old lineup did more shows in total...

They certainly did.  But they did cancel their fair share due to illness, Axl throat problems, legal troubles, fear of riots, unable to reschedule.  So it's not like cancelling shows is anything new in the world of Guns N' Roses.  And I don't know if I have my facts straight but the 18 European dates in 2001 and the 2002 North American tour were sort of forced by management.  And then the 2006 North American tour was cut short when they fired Merck and tried to focus on finishing up the album.  THOSE kind of problems didn't seem to be too prevalent with the old lineup.
