Houston Chronicle reports that an 18-year old Texas heavy metal fan, whose MySpace profile opens with a blaring "Meaning in Tragedy" by AS I LAY DYING, is charged ? along with his best friend and next-door neighbor ? with murder in the death of a classmate, accused of shooting her in the head and burying her body in a shallow grave.

Sean H. Brown (photo), whose MySpace profile features a black background with swirling white skulls, and Matthew R. McCombs, 18, were caught July 12 as they tried to cross the border into Canada.

Brown was headed for an uncertain future as he abruptly quit high school this past spring semester. Friends had no idea why.

"He never said. Academics are really tough and getting tougher at Clements. Some kids drop out and enroll somewhere else," said George Hopkins, 17, a member of Junior ROTC at the Clements High School. He said Brown was talented in art, doing "amazing painting and sculptures."

Ashton Glover, 16 (photo), was last seen early Saturday (July Cool at a coffee shop in Sugar Land. She was found dead by a construction crew laying utility lines just before noon Monday.

A motive for the killing is not yet known.

That's quite fucked up  no

What is? The murder, or the write up?

I don't get it.

Guess what's next,

"Boy who likes milk kills gran and baby sister."

It's all in the milk!!

It is nothing more than an irrelevant side note. I have read nothing in the above to warrant any relevance to the boy's musical orientation! Perhaps there is in the link, maybe he was screaming a bit o' Judas Priest in the girls ear when he shot her in the face, but I'm not going to read it. And if it does say something like that, well... Then it's the original posters fault.

The murder. I guess I was just stating the obvious, cause every murder is a fucked up incident. Especially when the victim is so young  no

so what youre saying is, if that type of music he listened to never existed then he would have still committed the murder?

I don't believe in fate. Not in a definitive way at least. I'd like to think that events will pan out for a reason, but I guess more in an ambiguous way that still leaves us with the capability to choose our own destiny. That this guy was capable of murder, in my eyes, had nothing to do with a bit o' the ol' rock n' roll.

Music can have an incredible effect, it can invoke emotions that were slight or that you didn't even know were there. But it can only help, aid or add to problems that are already there. That comprehension in order to engage in that way has to already be a part of you!

It's a fools reasoning, and I know that you're far too clever to actually be insinuating that it is because of The Music that there is a young girl dead somewhere.  Tongue It's like placing blame on a single paving stone, or maybe even an interesting distraction!, for the paths final destination.

I know you asked me a question, and I would answer it if I could. I think that The Music contributes to the state of mind but it's influence stops there, as nothing more than a contribution. That this boy was capable of murder was not a part of him solely because of The Music. You ask whether he would have commited the murder had the music never existed. The best answer that I can give is to ask you to consider: a man misses a bus, by seconds, and gets on the next one that comes along. He gets in an argument with another passenger over... Well, whatever, loud music or something. The second man is an antagonistic little prick. It begins to get physical, and ends with our first man kicking the second one in the head repeatedly. With intent. The bloke dies and the first one goes down for life. If our lifer had not have missed the first bus, if he had not have encountered that antagonistic little shit, would he still have commited murder? I think that if you are capable.........

I know that it isn't exactly to the point, but what I'm trying to say is that to blame the music is a roundabout explanation and misses the point, the true nature of the problem, entirely.

Hmm (Another Marge Simpson hmm). I guess I didn't do too good a job of that actually.

Music is the easiest thing to blame; the boy's father issues, the bullying he went through at school or the girl that broke his heart are intangible, while the music is unchanging, providing a simple explanation, available for scrutinisation by Daily Mail readers everywhere. You can't point a finger at an undocumented past. The heavy metal fans are the 'minority' of the world. I guess that people don't want to look any further than attributing  this boy's problems to the music that he listens to. Ha! Even if that were true, then the parents, society itself, should question how he came to walk that path anyway. Not everybody can be converted, can they.

(As always, whenever I write more than a sentance (half of it normally being, 'but seriously.....'), I didn't write this schmango in order. So I appologize if it makes little sense or is out of sync...........)

Yeah, I had a butchers, at his page and hers. Something is taken away from it though by the fact that they all use exclamation marks. "I can't believe she's dead!!," just doesn't seem serious enough for me.

It doesn't hit home! It's harder to have sympathy!, because it doesn't seem real!

i like your reasoning...to me its all about cause and effect...and the music isnt the cause...youre right...its because he was the way he was, he felt inclined to listen to music which comes close to his beliefs...with music its never a cause...music has to be interpreted in some way..for something to have meaning it has to be understood, since he understood the music , he must have known how to interpret it...to me there is no way for it to work the other way about..he is disturbed in the head and that most likely came from some sort of emotional trauma or maybe a hormonal imbalance like depression etc, and lyrics dont have that capability...people do have the ability to inflict that though...

funny how whenever some teenager likes rock music and commits murder it makes news and points to the music...hip hop and rap have plenty of violent lyrics, yet you never see murderers with a tendency to like rap music in the news do you?...im sure there has been plenty tho...
