Son of a motherless goat, is it hot out there.

Neither of my boys have nearly the bodies to pull off this look anymore (which makes three of us) but I bet they wish like hell they could turn back time for one night. I sure do.

Looks like a scortcher there, today/tonight!

Pro tip: hydrate before you pregame! Otherwise, the hooch hits you hard and fast in the heat! And nobody wants to spend the show in the stadium infirmary!

Already have pics on my FB feed of tailgating.

Those fuckers will be lucky to make it.  Heat index is over 100 right now.

I'd tailgate til 5 or so, find a place with air conditioning and food, eat, pound hydration, and then hit the venue for 7 or so, and pad my buzz til 9ish. But thats just me....i wanna see the show!

I'm headed right to the club box area.  And its air conditioning.

Give no fucks about either opener.  Will not head out to my seat until I hear the Looney Tunes music.

We are in the coaches club section at metlife. Contacted them today and they confirmed club will be open for folks seated in that section. Private restaurant/lounge with (for extra $$) Food and drinks, plus a/c, and much easier access to bathrooms. Depending on weather, we might hit that early...til Lenny comes out at least. Maybe til gnr is about 15 min out. ;)

It's the whole reason I went this route.  A place to chill beforehand and sit out a possible shit opener (came true) or Axl's tardiness (pleasantly surprised to be wrong on that).

I went right to the club box on the Nightrain presale.  Likely why I couldn't get as fired up about seat location.  Got my dream seat in about 90 seconds.

Its what i wanted, but couldnt get right away. I wanted anything but floor (my back and knees cant do 3 to 5 hours on my feet, and my 5ft4 wife needs some elevation to see in the sea of giants), 155 or less. On the presale, they just didnt pop. We got nosebleeds in 335.

Then, checked a few weeks ago, and these popped. They are not up against the stage...we are about on the 40 yard line further from the stage, first level. But i am 100% good with that, considering we get comfy seets and, i was hoping, access to the lounge. When i confirmed that today, i felt like we had won the lottery!

Have fun, tonight, man!! Toss one back for me!!

Imagine it's packed.

Was packed for Pearl Jam, and that was half the amount of people.

No, I write about telecommunications. Even though I had an eye at the news in France, the problem was in Portugal - there's a corruption scandal envolving both Portugal and Brazil's biggest telcos. It's massive in my field, lol.

Slash is using his weird wooden guitar. :)

The solo was.. unexpected.

What do you mean? It's differerent from the soundcheck's version?

BC Rich Mockingbird. If I remember it right, Sorry uses the same guitar tuning as Better.

Axl joking at/to "mean mean mean security"

During KOHD, Axl joked about teasing Beta that they have a bell (the Liberty Bell) with a crack in it there in Philadelphia and that she should fix it.  He said she called him an idiot.  :P

Also during KOHD, Axl taunted the crowd about how loud the fans in Pittsburgh sang along with him and wanted them to top their fellow Pennsylvanians.  He complimented them when they complied.

Odd Review:  http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/music/20160715_Guns_N__Roses_playsthe_Linc.html

He teamed with Fortson on a crowd-pleasing guitar duet on Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and delivered a particularly enjoyable segue from "Speak Softly, Love (Love Theme From 'The Godfather')" into a sweeping and soaring "Sweet Child O' Mine."

I guess Danny Fortson is now a guitarist in GNR....... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Fortson of the NBA)  LOL

Sick show last night.

No problem.

It's not my favorite guitar, either.  But it sounds amazing. :)

I wish I could find LALD and KOHD.  I could live without the intro and band intros, but I'd love to take those vids (substituting any better sources that come up over the next day or so) and rip the audio to mp3 for my car.  It's a killer set list and the audio quality of those vids are pretty decent for crowd sourced bootlegs.

I saw those!  In a bunch of cases, I waffled between steve's vids and mark's vids.  For CD, I chose mark's ONLY because I thought the opening guitar riff sounded a little "meaner" and I dug that sound a tiny bit more.  THAT, I think, was the hardest choice when comparing vids to find which source I liked better (no pun intended).  In most cases one or the other had slightly better (IMHO) sound quality.

"Thanks for coming out tonight.  Wouldn't blame you if you didn't."

Guys...our boy is all grown up.

I thought that was a great comment.  I was, frankly, shocked at the amount of comments on saw on all the local radio station Facebook pages that were promoting it how many people were still pissed about the no show in 2002.  So it was a smart to address it.  But it hardly mattered.  If that place was not sold out completely, it was all but.  When they put the house lights on between tunes, you didn't see one empty seat.

The sea of humanity might have been my favorite part.  As late as 2015, never thought I'd see a crowd that big in this country at a GNR concert, ever.  Was a great sight.

The show itself was tremendous.  Axl was all smiles all night.  Played to the crowd throughout, and very animated.  Slash...look, I'm sorry, he just makes it all right.  'Estranged' and 'November Rain' just sound so much better with him back.

Surprise of the night was 'Sorry'.  Hardly my favorite song, as you all know, but it was done very well.  My initial concern that the addition of 'Sorry' would cost us 'Coma' was laid to rest 2 songs later when the heartbeat sound came over the loudspeakers.

Took my Dad who was a fan back in the day, and always said he'd go if hell froze over and Slash came back.  He loved it.  He thought Axl was great, and Axl truly was.

Probably the best concert of my life.  Once you combine my alltime favorite band with the fact they dominated all night.

Nice bar, couches, etc.  Was great to sit out both openers in there.  A.C. was on, but with open air entrances out to the seats, it wasn't exactly airtight.

Seats were great.  Given the heat and the sheer mass of humanity there, I can't imagine being down on the floor.  Let alone the pit.

Part of Axl's uniqueness is his banter (or rants from yesteryear) with the crowd. Seems like there was a lot of it during this show. Pretty cool. Also, every time I hear Fortus solo I think how awesome it is that he is in this band. The guy can really play. Shred, chicken pickin', you name it he can do it. What a great pick-up he was.

It sounds totally nerdy, and the kind of comment I tend to mock, but it made me so happy to see that scene.

I have had pretty serious doubts as to how much camaraderie is present in all this.  And if the time on stage is the only time they really spend together.  But while I have consistently said that if that was the case, it's fine by me, it did make me smile to see them goofing off like that.

Funny you should say that.  Im sitting here watching the Nightrain vid which is sick btw and trying to figure out what the fuck shes doing back there.  Just bouncing around on a keyboard?  Is it plugged in?  Kinda distracting.

Since we all know how much he hated Slash at some point of his life, I don't think he could do it if they hadn't figured out their issues. And seeing all this, it's just so great. I imagine you guys at the show yesterday won't be able to get much done today. I would be in heaven.

The show was Epic.   What I saw last night was magical. Everyone was spot on.  I know the videos do not do the sound justice. Axl was on fire.  I cant imagine one negative complaint, other than the show ended and the tour is leaving town.   Might be the best show I ever saw.  Some might have been more wild or have been more intimate.   I have to admit what I saw and heard last night I have not heard in over 20 years.  Those songs have not touched me in that way in a long time.  To hear the sounds of Slash and Duff on those songs took me back in time.  I have seen just about ever version of GNR since 91 and this one was the best.

Im excited for what the future may hold : ok:

Part of Axl's uniqueness is his banter (or rants from yesteryear) with the crowd. Seems like there was a lot of it during this show. Pretty cool. Also, every time I hear Fortus solo I think how awesome it is that he is in this band. The guy can really play. Shred, chicken pickin', you name it he can do it. What a great pick-up he was.
Bumblefoot, when he was in the band, considered Fortus the best guitarist out of the 3..

He absolutely fucking did.  Walked up behind him, and went "tickle tickle"...like, to try to mess him up (in good natured fun), and then walked around him and they both laughed about it.  You can see it in better quality here (jump to around the 3:15 mark):

No.  He sang it like it's written:  you know that you DO...

But he didn't emphasize his Bela Lugosi voice on the line "but I don't want to do it" like he does on the album and he's done previously.

I have to tell you guys, there was complete shock in my section when they started up 'Sorry'.

Is this 'Sorry'??...I can't believe they are playing this!...Have these guys ever actually listened to the lyrics?

All overheard in the rows around me.  Was pretty funny.  Prompting my Dad to ask what was up with this song.  So I obliged :

Basically, its a song about how the old band fucked him over and can all knock heads as they kiss his ass, as far as he's concerned.

We have all seen the quote that the song isn't specifically about Slash ... But come on ...lol

Yeah, it's a B.C. Rich Bich.

I believe it's also a 10 string, with the highest pitched 4 strings doubled up like on a 12 string guitar and the 2 lowest pitched strings like a standard guitar which is pretty interesting that he uses it. I can see the extra four tuning pegs (at the bottom of the guitar) not sure if they are actually strung up.

Videos and sound from this show looked great

Loved that they played Sorry.  It's a cool song.  Love that slash is staying true to buckets parts

Melissa is great on backing vocals and the keyboard is not the only thing she can bounce off of

Seems the more shows they are playing the more commfy they are all feeling towards each other and the crowd.

The later shows on this tour are just going to be epic

You've got that right man!  What were the odds out of what? 50,000 + people, multiple parking lots, your crew and my crew were parked unplanned within 50 feet (if that?) of each other?
That's awesome!
It was really cool seeing you and Mani for the 1st time since November, '06's Meadowlands show!  (that Nov., Jersey was cold as hell, and yesterday's show in Philly was hot as hell!)  It was great meeting Mani's man, Tony, Franc and Melania too...
GNR fans are great.
The energy yesterday was fantastic!
Axl's vocals on This I Love were just amazing...I've gotta hear Slash's solos on it more to be a fair judge, but Axl fucking killed it with sweat dripping like a faucet!  Awesome stuff.

...the day and night would have been perfect had it not been for the person who left beer bottles in the lot that gave us a flat tire!   :crying:   ...and the person who took my concert tee.  Oh well, that's life.
I had a great effing time...these memories are literally seared into my memory (I think it's from it being sooo hot!)   :hihi:

Thank you GNR and the best fans in the world!  Except for the ones who leave bottles out and steal tees!   :peace:

It's always been one of my favorite CD songs..But you are right, crowds don't seem to be into it..I saw GNR in NJ a few years ago, I think the set was CD, ISE, B-Stone and Sorry..Majority of the crowd sat down during Sorry..Great tune!! Maybe have a cool video montage, I don't get why people don't get how great it is...

It was jam packed.

I'm not sure what the seating is for concerts there.  It's where Eagles play.  Seen shows at the Phillies stadium, but never at the Eagles one.

But the club level was high enough that I got a nice panoramic view of the place.  They put the full lights on in between a few of the songs.  And you could see nothing but people everywhere.  No seats.  Even the upper levels were filled to capacity, looked like.

Oh, and every local review (TV, paper, blogs) raved about the show, effusively.

As far as I remember, on Chinese Democracy (and Sorry, Better...) the guitar is tuned Drop D indeed - and half step down, in GNR case: C#-G#-C#-F#-Bb-Eb. I don't know if Slash is using the aditional 4 strings of the B.C. Rich Bich, like on a 12 string guitar.

Wow almost 70,000 people were there? That's gotta be the largest crowd so far.

The review said about 70k. So that's what i am going by.

I think 50k is about right.

The U2 360 tour had 70k in this stadium, but that was in the round, not end-stage.

That's still impressive for a middle of the week show. I can't wait to see how many are at my show in Arlington.

This is trully a great moment to be a fan. This tour is getting better and better, and I'm still amazed how smoothly everything seems to be happening. Axl's mood from last show was just a pleasant surprise.

As far as I remember, Chinese is in standard E (with Drop D, of course). Or maybe its Shacklers? Dunno. Better is indeed Drop D half step down, that one I'm 100% sure because I used to play it. Never really tried Sorry, so I don't know.

Wow Jarmo, are you hitting them all?   :o

For those not aware, Jarmo is part of the GN'R team. Has been for close to 10 years if I remember correctly. He travels with them on all tours.

And his name is pronounced Yarmo, by the way.

That was me and my wife that you met jarmo in between the pit and the first row of seats. For a reference you mentioned how hot is was and that Nashville was also hot. Right before This I Love. After we spoke I believe you went and took a photo of Duff.

It was great to meet you after all these years. I posted under the name K-Rock from 2001 until 2004-ish. I left after becoming one of those nagging voices around here complaining about the continued Chinese Democracy delays. I came back once Axl started firing up the GN?R engine again, in 2006.

Would love to hang out with you someday, you seem like a real cool person.

MY PHILLY EXPERIENCE:
I could go on and on about Guns N? Roses and how their music saved me. The second I heard Welcome to the Jungle come on from my friend?s turn table, life took a different direction. I was on my own since age 16. I had a roof over my head, but no parental direction. No rules, no guidance. I could have gotten into a lot of trouble back in metro Detroit, 1987, but staying inside of my attic bedroom listening to AFD over and over and over again, kept me out of a lot of trouble.

I first saw GNR opening for Aerosmith in 88. I then caught them 3 times during the UYI World Tour. I saw them in Hershey, PA, in June of 1991. By the time they came back around later in 1991, Izzy had left the band. I?ve seen every variation since then, with the exception of Buckethead in 2002. The infamous, the heartbreaking, Axl no-show, for which he apologized during this show.

My wife and I made it to the floor around 9:00. We were front row, Duff?s side. It was not as hot on the floor as it was in the stands. There was a breeze coming from somewhere. I started to get nervous when 9:30 came and went with no start. ?Here we go again?, came to mind. Then they hit the stage like a freight train. Goosebumps. The bands looks healthy. A lot different than when I saw them together back in ?91.

I had 3 songs I wanted to record: CD, Better, & Slash?s solo in This I Love. I?m a huge fan of Chinese Democracy. Anybody who's a fan of the band from the beginning who hasn?t given the record a chance, is not open to the possibility of it being worthy, IMO. And Sorry, if they dared play Sorry, I was going to record it.

I recorded CD, and then put my phone away. I feel distracted when I?m filming the show. I lose some of the ?being there in the moment? experience if I'm holding my phone up trying to film. And watching videos of the concert doesn?t come close to being in the stadium. Not even close.

And then they began Sorry. I scrambled for my phone and started recording. Got the whole song. Axl was fucking amazing. FUCKING AMAZING!!!. The crowd, most not knowing the song, went crazy at one point in response to Axl?s effort. It was his effort they appreciated not even knowing what the fuck he was singing.

And then, I went to hit stop on my phone and realized I didn?t record any other the song. I must have not hit the button. I held my phone up that whole fucking time zooming in and out, filming Slash, then Axl, the back again, filming the video screen??nothing. Missed the whole fucking song. And then in that moment it was if I missed the song entirely. I decided then to put my phone away and just be at the show the rest of the way. I give a lot of credit to those who film and who periscope. A big thank you and much respect.

BEST CONCERT I HAVE BEEN TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! No close second. I?ve seen the best at their best (Van Halen, Metallica, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Ted Nugent, etc) since the early 80?s. This concert had the best sound, the best tone (if that makes sense), the best mixing, etc. Axl has regained his voice. People can compare him to the past, but the only true comparison can be made by seeing him live to compare. In 80?s and 90?s he may have had more rasp, more bite to his chords, but this performance was the most consistent. He was sharp and on point from ISE to Paradise.

Slash was by far better than ever before. I?ve seen him live with Velvet Revolver. He was better on July 14, 2016, than in ?88, ?91, & ?04 (VR). He was fucking flawless. I love what he?s done with CD material. If he orchestrated the new intro to Better, then he?s a master. FUCKING LOVE THE NEW INTRO TO BETTER!!!

Duff! First time I?ve seen him live sober. No wait, he was sober, as far as I could tell, with VR. He looks so fuckin? healthy. My wife kept commenting how cool he was up on stage referring to his vibe. ?He?s just so cool?, she kept saying. He?s the best Bass player I?ve seen live. (Never saw Cliff Burton live).

Fortus! Underrated and under appreciated. Some guy next to me asked, ?Is that Izzy??. Nope, that?s Richard Fortus. His solo in Rocket Queen was phenomenal. And Wish You Were Here is the greatest guitar solo duet ever. Never once did I miss Izzy. NO disrespect to Izzy.

Frank! I?ve heard the little negative chatter here and there. I?ve seen him live 3 times now. LIVE! He?s the backbone of the band, the beating rhythm, the drive, the motor. I fuckin? love Frank, and appreciate his contribution to, hands down?..the greatest concert of my life.

Dizzy. Dizzy is Dizzy. Always there, always consistent, does his job VERY WELL!

Melissa? I don?t know. Love her vocal contribution, and oh so fun to look at. I can?t tell what she adds to the sound, but I could never tell what Chris added either.

My view, when looking back at the crowd, says to me that it was a sell out. There was one tiny pocket in one of the top sections that had approximately 100 empty seats. But that was it. And the pocket was weird, as if that section was closed off.

Lastly, there was a girl, long dark curly hair in a short skirt, who danced her ass off in the pit (left side) from ISE to Paradise City. She had a different dance for every song. She danced as if GN?R defined her very existence, much the same as GN?R defined my existence from 1987-1993.

I spent $500 for 2 tickets and would it again. I?m half tempted to trek to New York to do it again, but this time I would definitely want to be in the pit since my ass never hit my seat once, although it was nice to have my space and the front row railing to lean on.

Edited to Add: I almost forgot.....The Seeker. Stop complaining about The Seeker being part of the encore. Why? Because Axl absolutely, ABSOLUTELY, loves, LOVES, singing that song. Watch his face, watch his body, his arms, when singing that song. The man kept the GN'R world spinning for 20 fucking years until amends could be made, dividing bridges repaired.....let him have his song. Because, after all, AXL IS THE SEEKER!

I think the first few rows are better than the pit ... More space , you can sit n chill for a few minutes if you need to and you have a better view of the whole stage and all the bells n whistles.

Glad you had a good time. I don't have great seats for MetLife but I couldn't be more excited to go to a GNR show with a group of 12 people I grew up with . Tailgate should be awesome

Hoping to hang with some fellow Gunners from here as well.

Agree with you about The Seeker. I can understand people wanting to hear other songs over it, but I don't get the over the top vitriol for the song itself. I think they do a kick ass version of it and the whole band seems to enjoy the hell out of playing it, especially Axl.

the problem it's not the seeker itself, the "problem" is that we already have LALD e KOHD (boring and iper extended version), I don't think people need another cover during an encore. I mean, i like to listen to the song sometimes, but it doesn't add anything to the show. I'd rather listen to "you're crazy", for example. They could alternate the song with something else, because the song itself is poor and not interesting. Plus r daltrey is a fuckin moron.

I get all those things, but ultimately it's up to the band. They enjoy playing the song, and it's a good lead in to PC. I don't see them taking it out anytime soon, so all the complaints about it are for naught.

KOHD should not be considered a cover in GN'R's world. They've been playing it live since as early as '87. I believe, somewhere along the line, Axl referenced the Dylan classic as being a theme song for all that surrounded GN'R in the beginning....everyone around them, including the band, were Knockin' on Heaven's Door on a daily basis (drug use). It's the song Axl gets to pull the crowd into the performance. One of the highlights of the Phiily show was when Axl dared Philly to match Pittsburgh's contribution. The band gets to freestyle on KOHD, something I'm guessing they enjoy.

LALD has been played live every show (I think) since the UYI Tour days. It may have been the 2nd, or 3rd, single from the Use Your Illusion albums. It's amazing to witness live.

KOHD & LALD are going nowhere.

So, in my book, The Seeker is the only cover they've been playing lately. GN'R has a history of playing a cover in every encore. I remember them playing Aerosmith's Mama Kin in encores during the AFD era.

Wish You Were Here shouldn't count as a cover. That's an amazing bonus, a treat for the fans.....2 of the best guitarists in a solo duet.

Just my opinion.......

the problem it's not the seeker itself, the "problem" is that we already have LALD e KOHD (boring and iper extended version), I don't think people need another cover during an encore. I mean, i like to listen to the song sometimes, but it doesn't add anything to the show. I'd rather listen to "you're crazy", for example. They could alternate the song with something else, because the song itself is poor and not interesting. Plus r daltrey is a fuckin moron.

Agree, pretty much 100%.

I'd also point out that KOHD and LALD might be covers in the strictest sense of the word...but they are actually album tracks for GnR.  They recorded and published versions of those songs.  They're not JUST cover versions of material played at a show.  To me, thats a big difference.

Probably the best show on the tour so far.

Went looking for DX, but didn't see him...  :-\

/jarmo

awesome review!  :o

Also singles and radio staples.

Never got the hate for these in the setlists.  They will always be there.

Honestly, I think LALD is often one of the best songs of the concert.  And Axl KILLED IT on the screams the other night.

I think I've finally recovered from this show. I had no voice for nearly 3 days.

it was absolutely incredible. I hate to immediately call a show the best of my life, but this one is right there with GnR in June 1991 (which has been the gold standard of concerts for me and would be nearly impossible to top). but this one was as good. this band is so fucking good and Axl's voice is as good as ever.

I watched a few youtube videos of prior shows and I have to say, I feel like the band was really fired up for this show. I think they have actually improved since the Vegas shows. They are a little tighter and more comfortable with each other. And when you see Axl dancing and running all over the stage like a madman, you realize how much was missing in Vegas.

Sorry was an incredible surprise. I love that song and I thought is sounded great.

Welcome to the Jungle was the best version I've seen either in person or on video.

it was hot. I spoke to some guards that said it was 125 degrees on the field in the afternoon. I started tailgating at the CBP parking lot at 4PM. I never felt anything like it. we had a crew of about 30 people and 2 felt so dizzy they had to sit in their cars with the AC on (they were not drinking either). we started walking at 8:45 and got into the pit by 9:15. it was really easy which was a nice surprise. there was no line at all to get into the pit. it was still really hot inside, but felt ok compared to standing in the sun at 4PM.

I saw several people that I went to the show with over the weekend, and heard from several others. everyone LOVED it. several of my friends had never seen them before, and most were absolutely blown away. a few of them just kept saying how they can't believe how great they sounded. they all said they will definitely see them again if they come back. a few of us are talking about heading up to north jersey this weekend for one of the shows. it was just that good.

Glad you had a good time, man, and that it was such a good show. Reports like this just amp me up for our show on Saturday.

Looks like we are likewise gonna have a scorcher...97-ish, though cloudy, and chance for some showers maybe (which actually might be welcome at that temp and what I'm assuming is going to be ridiculous humidity).

Edit: If you come up to the show on Saturday, let me know.  We'll have to find a way to touch base. First round on me. :)

I have found the same thing.

I just loved seeing that many people at a GNR show again here in the U.S.  All decked out in GNR merch, some it, quite vintage.

But afterwards, I talked to several people that went and loved it.  And I've talked to others that didn't go, but after talking to friends that did and seeing clips are pissed at themselves.

If they keep this line-up together, I assume we can look forward to a full scare arena tour nationwide in a few years.

Thanks sky dog  : ok:

I still can't get over how happy Axl was. I've never seen him smile so much and I don't remember seeing him interact that much with the crowd before.

My guess, is that there was some form of relief & release for him in how the Philly crowd received him. I can imagine his no show in 2002 was in the back of his mind.

Another amazing show!!  Great to read some reviews on here!  Hope to read more..
Think it was around 7:30 my friend and I finally arrived in Philly.  As usual the traffic near Valley Forge going into Philly was pretty backed up.  We parked at a friends house in Fishtown, grabbed some pizza quick, and got a Uber cab.  It was getting closer to 8:30 by then so the driver sped up to 80mph down highway 95 to the stadium.  When we got close enough to see the stadium there was just a ton of people.  I have never seen so many people tailgating ever!  We told the driver we would just walk the rest of the way.  He was happy about that and said he got paid either way!  We missed the opening bands but that was fine with us.  We looked at merch and they still had the poster and the event shirt.  I liked the concept of the design but it reminded me of Ghostrider instead of Ben Franklin so I didn't buy them.  My friend from Philly liked it and bought the shirt.

Other friend went to different place so my other friend and I went way up to the Top to M11.  He mentioned afterwards a girl behind him went into a seizure during COMA and had to be taken out.  There were signs outside warning of strobe lights.  Anyway, when we got to our section there were two dudes sitting in our front row seats but I don't blame them because we showed up so late.  The GN'R screens turned on shortly after and went on for a but longer than usual but was good to just relax for a minute.  I'm so glad they sold enough tix to leave all the upper sections open!!  Was a little worried they would try and make us move down lower to the back of another section.  Only a very small amount of seats were open off to our right.  Otherwise the place was jam packed!!  We never had seats for a Guns show but it was still a great experience.  The section we were in a had a strong marijuana smell at times and seemed like we had to stand up about 20 times to let other fans in and out of the row.  That was the only downside.  We didn't stand for the show since it felt like we were on the very edge of a 200 foot drop.   Everyone stood for Paradise City!

As far as sound goes it seemed to be even louder than the DC show and maybe the loudest concert we have ever been to.  I noticed on the few video clips I recorded that there is a slight but noticeable delay on the vocals.  Most likely due to being so far away and picking up sound from speakers on field instead of the stage.  But listening and watching live it was definitely not noticeable.  Sounded perfect!  After looking up and over at the stage from the DC show in the Pit is was interesting to actually be able to see the entire production/stage.  If I could see the show again I would be happy with similar seats again or the Pit.

Other notes...  A few friends who have never seen GN'R were at the show and told me later how amazing it was!  I've been telling them for years but finally they decided to go.  One friend brought his young son Izzy who had been begging to go for weeks!  He loved it!  Another friend asked me when I'm going again.  They want to go along!!

After the show bootleg shirt dealers were selling shirts outside all along the sidewalks.  The farther we got away the shittier they were...from $20 all the way down to a black shirt with white only print for $10 but probably could have paid $5.  It was insane trying to figure out how to get back to house.  Uber jacked the rates up to $90!!  They may have been upset because they were waiting a little longer than expected for fans to exit the show.  We starting walking a few blocks and flagged down two cabs, both of which said $30.  Said no thanks but since it was getting close to 1:30am and we wanted to get to last call at a bar we tried the Lyft app.  It was also $30 but the driver showed up within 5 minutes.  He knew exactly what bar we wanted to go to...The Barcade.  I casually mentioned how good it was that the Uber driver earlier went 80mph down highway 95.  A minute later I looked at the speedometer and the Lyft driver was traveling at 87mph back up 95.  The Barcade was closing up so he took us to a dive called the El Bar where we were able to get drinks right before 2am.

I saw that forecast. brutal!! i'll probably make a decision on Friday. checking stubhub and ticketmaster.

if I end up at the Saturday show, I will definitely let you know so we can meet up for a couple.

a few other general thoughts about the show....

1) I absolutely love the extended intro on DTTJ. it has a bluesy vibe to it and then it hits a bit a metallica-influenced riff. it's just nasty. and the fact that they started the intro what felt like a nano-second after WTTJ was awesome. Just kept that energy level at 10 for a long time. killer stuff.

2) ditto on the extended intro on "Better". just a great jam. these modifications to existing songs is part of why I loved GnR's live show so much back in the day (like the beginning and ending of SCOM). doing great songs and making them a little different and better live just adds so much to the show. glad to see they still do this.

3) many people I talked to said November Rain was highlight of the show, even though it's not a song they were looking forward to. I've walked away with that same feeling at a number of GnR shows. they just kill it live, led by Axl's vocals and added intensity near the end of the song.

4) I love Seeker! It's probably my second favorite Who song. I think it sounds awesome live and Axl clearly has a special connection with the song. the way he performs it, I think the lyrics are very personal to him. I've also always believed that the acoustic version of You're Crazy is influenced by the seeker.

5) it's honestly tough for me to pick a highlight or favorite moment. I've mentioned a few, but there were so many songs that sounded incredible. for me, the first 5 songs are worth the price of admission alone. so much energy and so incredible. and then they go into Estranged . Rocket Queen was incredible, as was Civil War, LALD, TIL, and Nightrain.

I honestly feel like Michael Scott when Schrute asks him what his favorite moment working at Dunder Mifflin was and Michael says "all of them."

What a great show!  That was my 17th GNR show, and it might have been the best one I have ever been to.  It is right up there for me with Albany 02, Hammerstein 06 and Vegas this year, which are my personal favorites.  Can't wait for the NJ shows this week.  Heres a couple pics from Philly I took with my phone that I thought came out pretty cool.

I watched a good bit of the show this week, and I agree, even the youtube clips seem better than a lot of what I watched at other shows. they were on fire. as hot as it was, it seemed like they came out focused on delivering as good a show as possible.

maybe they are just continuing to develop and improve as a band, but Axl alluded to the '02 no-show, so that was on his mind. I have to believe he was a little extra focused on delivering a kick-ass show.

they even played Sorry for the first time, which is kinda an ironic song title to debut with this band in Philly. Not that the song is any type of an apology, but still kinda interesting.
