What channel/show, anything reputable?

Just saw it announced on the morning show "Sunrise" which is one of the most, if not the most watched morning show in Australia and very much a reputable and trusted source.

Earlier this year I was told that GN'R would be here late 2012/early 2013 but since then I have been told by the same person that the plans have since been canned due to promoters and whatnot. It's anyone's guess really but this is just what I have been told by a very reliable source.

Hi Jay, hows things going?

Hopefully any issues have been sorted, I first heard the rumour about a month ago, but this is the first I've heard of any media outlets mentioning anything. Hopefully we will get to see them around March-May next year.  : ok:

I really hope it's all sorted. Would love to see them again. I only got to 1 show last time. I have a kid now so I will be lucky if I even get that this time. haha.

I first heard about a possible Aus run from my source then I heard some people reading about it in the paper.

Would love to see an UCAP tour for us.

Bring this tour to North America please.

I mean I'd love new music but I actually enjoy ZZ Top's new song (the "I got to get paid" one) and a few of their older tracks... and I'm not a classic rock guy.

No Adelaide gig :(

Excuse my whingeing but ZZ Top?? Are you serious?

Sad they don't get a younger more relevant band cos a lot of kids that may have considered seeing GNR will think ahh this is just some golden oldies gig. Shame.

Good to see the guys back in Australia though. I have raved about the last gig to my new GF and she has been a little skeptical as she views GNR as a band that haven't really done anything for 20 years and past prime. I would have loved to have taken her to a gig in Adelaide with a more relevant support. Oh well looks like a trip to Melbourne.....great city.

I remember the last time GN'R toured Australia, and they had that competition to win tickets and people had to video themselves proving how much of a GN'R fan they are. That one guy who won, danced around a street while pouring soup all over his head, had me laughing for over a week.  ;D

Guns N? Roses Sweet Child O Mine Is A Hit Again

JANUARY 7, 2013

Guns N? Roses classic ?Sweet Child O Mine? has returned to the Australian chart this week on news of the upcoming tour.

2,510 people bought ?Sweet Child O Mine? in Australia in the past week and that was enough to generate a no. 90 ARIA position for the Gunners classic.

From Pollstar:

Australia: Guns N? Roses & ZZ Top

Monday 1/7/13

It?s about to get loud in Australia this year. Guns N? Roses partners with ZZ Top for a tour of the continent that also includes The Angels.

Andrew McManus Presents teamed Guns N' Roses, ZZ Top and The Angels for a five-arena run in Australia.

The shows run March 9-20. The fourth date, March 17 in Melbourne, coincides with the final day of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

It will also pose a challenge for GNR's creative approach to starting times.

The Myer Music Bowl adheres to a strict curfew of 11 p.m. ? normally the time the band first hit the stage during its last dates here.

Hi Billo,

I just googled this and it says seating capacity is 2,150 and behind them is the lawn with 23,000 capacity. I doubt you'd see much from the lawn area though, maybe someone who has been there more recently could tell us that.

There are no pianos allocated but they can be arranged on request, looks like they have to apply for any pyro so I guess it's up to the venue to look at what they want to use & decide if it's safe.

Hope that helps.

They are but we all know why they exist. There are so many things to consider which days are suitable and then one is picked regardless of the day. I will be in the region from Europe during the tour but you don't really realise how massive the distances are over there until you actually check them. I'm just not going to make it to a show

GUNS N' ROSES

McManus Entertainment is thrilled to announce the return to Australia of one of the world?s greatest rock bands, Guns N? Roses in March 2013. Joining Guns N? Roses will be special guests ZZ Top and Aussie rockers Rose Tattoo.

Guns N? Roses will play shows in Perth, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne and Brisbane. Tickets go on sale through various outlets on Friday 25 January at 9am.

Hard rockers Guns N? Roses were last in Australia in 2010 but haven?t played to Melbourne audiences since 2007.

Guns N? Roses are Axl Rose, DJ Ashba (guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Tommy Stinson (bass), Richard Fortus (guitar), Ron ?Bumblefoot? Thal (guitar), Chris Pitman (keyboards) and Frank Ferrrer (drums).

Guns N? Roses continue to tour the globe and have played to millions of fans worldwide. In April 2012, Guns N? Roses were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide since forming in 1985.

Guns N? Roses? special guests on their Australian tour are the legendary Texan trio, ZZ Top. ZZ Top?s image has been as unchanging and memorable as their music. ZZ Top have been together for more than 40 years and were inducted by Keith Richards into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. The band?s iconography ? beards, cars, girls and that magic keychain ? transcend all bounds of geography and language. They?ve been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons. Billy F Gibbons is one of America?s finest blues guitarists while Dusty Hill on bass and Frank Beard on drums (ironically the only member without a beard) provide the ultimate rhythm section support.   Most famous for their hits Legs, Gimme All Your Lovin? and Sharp Dressed Man, ZZ Top are sure to thrill their Australian fans with their sturdy American blues and rock style.

Rose Tattoo join Guns N? Roses and ZZ Top on the Tour. The lineup features lead vocalist Angry Anderson, Dai Pritchard, Paul DeMarco, Geordie Leach and Randall Waller. Rose Tattoo is touted as the best bar-room-blues based rock band in the world and one of the most revered bands of all time. Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006, their hits include Bad Boy for Love, Rock ?n? Roll Outlaw, Nice Boys, We Can?t Be Beaten and Scarred for Life.    Aussie rock fans can expect a hard-rocking performance from a hard-rocking lineup!

Promoter Andrew McManus says, "I can't wait for these shows next March. Axl Rose is a legend and I can't wait to see Guns N' Roses play to their legion of Aussie fans again. I'm so proud to be bringing them back to Australia and am looking forward to a great tour with fellow rockers ZZ Top and Rose Tattoo."

Hard rockers Guns N' Roses were last in Australia in 2010. Guns N' Roses are Axl Rose, DJ Ashba (guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Tommy Stinson (bass), Richard Fortus (guitar), Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal (guitar), Chris Pitman (keyboards) and Frank Ferrrer (drums).

Since bursting out of the LA rock scene in the mid '80s, Guns N' Roses went on to become one of the world's most legendary rock bands and one of the biggest in music history. Guns N' Roses continue to tour the globe and have played to millions of fans worldwide. In April 2012, Guns N' Roses were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide since forming in 1985.

Guns N' Roses' special guests on their Australian tour are the legendary Texan trio, ZZ Top. ZZ Top's image has been as unchanging and memorable as their music. ZZ Top have been together for more than 40 years and were inducted by Keith Richards into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. The band's iconography - beards, cars, girls and that magic keychain - transcend all bounds of geography and language. They've been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons. Billy F Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists while Dusty Hill on bass and Frank Beard on drums (ironically the only member without a beard) provide the ultimate rhythm section support.

Rose Tattoo join Guns N' Roses and ZZ Top on the Tour. The lineup features lead vocalist Angry Anderson, Dai Pritchard, Paul DeMarco, Geordie Leach and Randall Waller. Rose Tattoo is touted as the best bar-room-blues based rock band in the world and one of the most revered bands of all time. Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006, their hits include Bad Boy for Love, Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw, Nice Boys, We Can't Be Beaten and Scarred for Life.

Aussie rock fans can expect a hard-rocking performance from a hard-rocking lineup!

Bring this tour to North America please.

I mean I'd love new music but I actually enjoy ZZ Top's new song (the "I got to get paid" one) and a few of their older tracks... and I'm not a classic rock guy.

Haven't heard the new song yet, but I CAN see Axl on stage doing 'Tush' with ZZTop.

They have some really great stuff. Blueysrocknroll.

Anyway, this is a awesome lineup: GNR, ZZ TOP and Rose Tattoo. I envy the australian fans!

I've seen Rose Tattoo plenty of times, as I'm an Australian, and they gig around a bit. And yeah, there's no doubt that they're great.

I'm just saying that there other Australian bands that should be given a shot to open for GN'R.

To put it in perspective the last time Guns played in England it was ?45 a ticket, so nearly half that.....

I'm still looking into this getting a bit too expensive flight to Melbourne. I'm aware of the car race and even thought about going there as well should I be in the city. Would the race really affect GNR ticket prices? I can't see the connection.

How much are the tix then in Melbourne, similar to Brisbane?

We've already got our tickets, in the box seats where there are only 4 rows of seats  : ok: We paid a bit extra but seeing as I might only get to one concert a year I think this is well worth the money. Rather see one band I really love than lots that I only go for a night out to see.

Who knows if I missed this opportunity I might never get the chance again, you just never know.

All we have to hope for is nice weather, no rain for the people outside & not 41C for the people both out and inside.  :-\

Don't know who is in charge of the official gnr site but they have the wrong date on there for Melbourne. It's listed as the 16th instead of the 17th - unless they are having a surprise concert on the 16th?????  :o

This is probably due to time difference. I've missed a football (soccer for some) game when checking the time and date from some international website. And I know others as well who haven't realised.

It's not too nice to go to the stadium wondering why this doesn't look like a match day. Well, it doesn't because the game was yesterday. Of course the times should be local time but that's not always the case.

Yes the time difference can be a pain but they know they are playing on the 17th - the other dates are correct.
It doesn't matter though, it is advertised everwhere correctly.
I just wonder how they all cope with the changes of time, jetlag is awful and they travel quite a bit from time zones, it would totally confuse me these days. Then in Australia they also have different time ones from state to state although these aren't drastic changes.

Then there's the change of weather, not sure I would like their lifestyle.

It's been corrected now.

In the news section they link the tour announcement to an Ultimate Classic Rock article, they have the date wrong.  It appears someone just copied over the incorrect date.

Just bought 3 tickets in the Silver reserved section. Only 10 minutes into the pre sale for the Melbourne show at the Myer Music Bowl.
All Gold and Silver sections are sold out with only GA available. Looks like this show will
sell out before the general public tickets go on sale Friday.

I'm smack bang in the centre of the Silver section about 25m from the stage. Perfect spot for viewing and sound. Cant wait.

We got seats the other night on the balcony close to the stage, there's only 4 rows of seats up there.

I see with the pre-sales they don't have Melbourne marked, are they planning to sell these later than the others?

Anyway we know where we will be - very close.  : ok:

Great to hear Billo,      they don't seem to do another concert once one sells out though. Remember those days when lined up & you'd hear another concert was going to be held & you didn't know whether to wait in line for the bad seats or take your chances & re-line up hoping to get good seats to the 2nd one.  :-\     Now it's all done online.

That's the problem with concerts, they should invent a stage that goes 3/4 into the crowd where the band can walk up & down so even the people in the back seats get to see them close up. It's no fun watching a concert through binoculars.

Axl Will Be On Time

Promoter shoots down rumours about Axl and the Gunners tour

The promoter of the Guns N' Roses Australian tour, Andrew McManus has promised fans Axl Rose will not be late for his Aussie concerts.

"Axl will be on stage, on time, so any of those fairyheads saying he won't be, good luck!", Andrew McManus told the Grill Team.

Axl has long been hammered for being being late on stage, sometimes up to two hours late, but McManus says he's got his act together.

"The great thing is that the last 12 months he's been on stage, on time. I can guarantee all the punters that do go, he has been exemplary," he said.

"He'll promise you, he'll be on stage at the right time so don't be fearful. [If] you rock out there two hours late and think you're going to see him... the show will be over."

Guns N? Roses announce second Melbourne show

Due to overwhelming demand Guns N? Roses have announced a second Melbourne show for Saturday, March 16 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The Glam Rock icons are due to play shows in Perth, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Melbourne next month with support slots from ZZ Top and Rose Tattoo. They will be the first gigs Axl Rose has played in Australia since 2010, when his band headlined proceedings at the V8 Supercar Championship in Sydney and stopped by Townsville and Adelaide with support from nu-metal comeback kings Korn.

FL recently spoke with Gunners keyboardist Dizzy Reed and he was quick to dismiss notions that the band?s current players are somehow less legitimate than that of the early ?80s, ?This is Guns N? Roses, therefore it is the real Guns N? Roses,? he said. ?There?s not two Guns N? Roses out there playing anymore. People can choose to live in the past as much as they want, it?s not going to change anything. This band is the best band I?ve ever been in, and we go out and we kick ass every night, give a thousand per cent.?

Tickets for the second Melbourne show go on sale Friday, February 15.

Capacity is around 23,000 but seating wise is around the 2,500 mark. GA I believe is behind the seating & I don't know if the Orchestra Pit will be standing room only or left bare.

Best to check the site for the Bowl - or check out youtube videos of concerts held there to get an idea. Hope that helped a little.

Guns N' Roses' March 13 show at Hunter Stadium, Newcastle has been more to the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. The date is still the same.

Ticketek/ProTicket/NEC will send a letter to all people who have bought a ticket to this show to inform of the change and what to do with your current ticket.

I was really looking forward to seeing GN'R at the Knight's home ground but the Ent Cent is pretty good too.

 :peace:

Wasn't this an outdoor venue? So how do they work out where everyone stands/sits etc with an inside seating venue or will it be set up much the same as the outdoor arena? Sounds confusing.

Probably the reason is bad ticket selling...On the other hand we have huge demand in Melbourne and second show added

According to the times they are showing, GNR will play 2 hrs or maybe 2 3/4 hrs if we're lucky. Still promises to be a great show, can't wait.

Now, come on! Looking at the 'times' of things is something we really should have learnt not to do by now! The least relevant at any GNR show!

Guns N' Roses concert moves indoors
By  JADE LAZAREVIC
Feb. 15, 2013

GUNS N? Roses? upcoming concert at Hunter Stadium is moving indoors.

The Axl Rose-fronted US rock band was set to perform at the outdoor venue on March 13 but promoters today confirmed the show is being shifted to Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

The date remains unchanged.

A spokesperson for national tour promoter McManus Entertainment told the Newcastle Herald a statement would be released on Monday with further information and new details for ticketholders.

The concert?s Newcastle-based promoter RockCity Event Marketing could not comment on the matter.

The shift of venue will dramatically downsize numbers at the Newcastle concert.

Promoters expected the Gunners could draw up to 30,000 spectators, making it Newcastle?s biggest stadium show since the 1990s earthquake appeal concert which attracted more than 42,000.

In comparison, capacity for concerts at Newcastle Entertainment Centre is up to 6500.

Guns N? Roses kick off their six-date Australian tour in Perth on March 9 followed by dates in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Melbourne where a second show has been added after the first sold out.

News of a change to the Guns N? Roses show in Newcastle follows this week?s cancellation of Irish pop singer Ronan Keating?s concert planned for March 5 at Newcastle Entertainment Centre.
See your ad here

The reason given for cancelling the concert, also promoted by McManus Entertainment and RockCity Event Marketing, was ??due to unforeseen circumstances??

In a statement, McManus Entertainment said it ??regrets this situation and looks forward to bringing further quality concerts and events to the Hunter region in the future??.

There is speculation the cancellation of Keating?s concert and downsizing of the Guns N? Roses concert is due to low ticket sales in an already swamped market.

An influx of overseas artists are set to tour Australia throughout March with big names acts such as Neil Young, Paul Simon and Robert Plant including Newcastle and the Hunter on their radar.

Hunter Stadium > 33.000

Newcastle Entertainment Centre > 6.500

That is some drop if I understand these figures - personally I'd rather be in the smaller crowd to be able to see the act.  I guess it's not good money wise for the band though.

Knights beat Guns N' Roses to stadium
By  JADE LAZAREVIC

PROMOTERS of the upcoming Guns N? Roses concert in Newcastle have cited a ??scheduling clash?? as the reason for shifting the March 13 show from Hunter Stadium to Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

News of the change surfaced on Friday but promoter McManus Entertainment did not release a statement confirming  that Axl Rose?s band would move venues until late yesterday afternoon.

Hunter Venues general manager Bicci Henderson said hosting the first Newcastle Knights home game of the season on March 11 would not allow the Guns N? Roses production crew  time to set up the large-scale concert.

??When the promoter booked it in I don?t think they realised how big of a production the Guns N? Roses concert needed,?? Mr Henderson said.

??So given that I had given them stadium availability from the Tuesday morning, being the 12th, and then they booked the 13th, they then realised they need almost three days to put the production in.

??Obviously I couldn?t move the football game and they didn?t want to compromise the production set-up for Guns N? Roses. They didn?t want to bring in a cheap production and just do a small stage and a small set up. They felt that the Newcastle fans deserved the full show.??

Mr Henderson said it was disappointing given the show would have been the first rock concert staged at the venue since the 1990s earthquake appeal concert attracted more than 42,000 people.

??We looked at every option of the crew coming in at 11pm on the Monday night and working non-stop through until about 10am on the Wednesday morning to get ready for sound checks but we just couldn?t do it,?? he said.

??It was just a really tight schedule. We thought we could do it but when they got all the production specs ? the stage is 80 feet wide and 60 feet  deep ? we physically couldn?t bump it in in time.??

All tickets  for the previously announced venue will be honoured at the entertainment centre, and can be exchanged from February 25.

Aussie girl plucks Gunners star's heart strings

February 20, 2013

GUNS N Roses guitarist DJ Ashba has paid tribute to Melbourne beauty Nicky Whelan for healing his heart.

Ashba said: "We met for a reason and we gave it a good run.

"She is a really cool girl and she helped me grow."

Ashba and Whelan, now a Hollywood-based actor, split in 2011 after dating for a year.

Back then, Ashba said Whelan had taught him to trust in love.

He added yesterday: She is a great actress and we're still buddies. I will wish her nothing but the best."

Guns N Roses play in Perth on March 9, Sydney on March 12, Melbourne on March 16 and 17, and Brisbane on March 20.

Ashba said the band has written "a ton" of new songs for an album.

"It's a matter of deciding which songs to pick for the new record," he said.

"I'm excited about the future. I didn't join Guns N Roses to only play guitar. I write songs everyday."

That's a nice wish, but we all know that DJ is in no sort of position to just decide to play new songs live. We all know that decision is Axl's and only Axl, and unfortunately he is not ready to play anything brand new as of yet.  :'(

Guns N' Roses in full bloom

They?re one of the biggest rock bands in music history, with international album sales exceeding 100 ?million units. And in March, Guns N? Roses will visit the Hunter. Keyboardist Dizzy Reed was friends with the original line-up since their inception in 1985 and in 1990 he joined the group to add piano tracks to their two monster records ? Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, which simultaneously debuted at number one and two on the US music charts respectively. In this interview with Alive, Reed reflects on his 23 years in one of the world?s largest and most ?discussed rock groups.

Guns N? Roses are returning to Australian soil ? how many times have you been here?

This will be the fourth time I?ve been there with Guns N? Roses. [The first trip] was the Use Your Illusion tour, which was ?92 or ?93 I think, and what a time it was. We had a week or two off and we all ended up staying way up in Queensland at this town called Port Douglas. We had these condos and there was this little bar and we?d go there and jam every night. It was crazy and extremely fun. It was good to be young, let?s put it that way. The shows were enormous and the people were fantastic and I remember saying to myself, ?I can?t wait to come back here.?

What can we expect from your upcoming shows?

The band that we have now is the strongest line-up we?ve had. We?re really starting to click on all cylinders. It?s a powerful rock ?n? roll show. We cover the whole spectrum of the catalogue too, so there?ll be something for everyone.

Guns N' Roses released a cover of a Rose Tattoo song, Nice Boys, and that band will be supporting you on your Australian shows. Will it be fun to share a stage with them again?

Oh yeah. They've supported us a few times down there and they're definitely one of my favourite bands, from way back. It's always really cool to have them on the bill.

What is it about Guns N? Roses? material that makes it fun to perform after all these years?

They?re just good songs. I joined the band after Appetite for Destruction had come out and become enormous, and I loved that record. I still do. It?s always awesome to be a part of that. And all the other songs too, after I joined the band, they?re just great songs. I can?t think of any that I don?t like playing. We like to keep it fresh, so one night will be different from the next. There?s nothing to me that?s more boring than going to see a band and they just play their entire album from beginning to end.

Are there any tracks that you enjoy performing the most?

Some of the piano-based songs ? they?re kind of special, I guess. I enjoy playing Estranged. It?s a beast to play and it?s long, but we started playing that again recently and it kind of takes me back. And the song Civil War is another one, too. It?s the first song I ever tracked with Guns N? Roses [in the studio] and it?s the first time I heard myself on the radio, so I enjoy playing that.

Do Guns N? Roses party on tour as much these days, compared to the early days?

I still enjoy having a few beverages now and then, but time will dictate what you can and can?t do. If you don?t adhere to that, then the side effects can be damaging. You?ve just got to go with the flow. Yes, we?re musicians and yes, we?re in a rock ?n? roll band and at the end of the day you?re just a human being and you can only do so much. But you can have a few drinks every now and then, and relax and have a good time. There?s nothing wrong with that.

When Guns N? Roses released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II simultaneously in 1991, you became the biggest rock band on the planet. What are your strongest memories of that time?

It was definitely a pinch-myself-every-once-in-a-while situation to see if I was dreaming. But it I had known them before they even got signed and Axl had talked about having me in the band from very early on and then to watch them become so gigantic, I was always wondering if it was really going to happen. But he?s a man of his word and when they were ready to start tracking those songs and those albums he called me and I got a phone call a couple of days later from Del James who was putting together the press release and said ?Congratulations, you?re in Guns N? Roses.?

When I joined the band they were chartering this jet that we used to fly around on everywhere for those three years. So I toured with a major band for three years and one day I was sitting around with some of the guys in the crew and they were all telling bus stories ? stories about things that happened on the [tour] bus. It got to me and they said, ?Cmon Dizzy, what are some of your bus stories?? and I said, ?I?ve never been on a bus.? But, you know what? I?ve been on a shitload of buses since then. I prefer it these days ? I like being on the bus and rolling down the highway.

When you joined the band, did Axl talk to you about what kind of sound he wanted you to bring to the music?

At the time, things were still organic. It was more a case of adding piano. [Axl] played a lot of the piano stuff on Use Your Illusion and he wanted someone to be able to play those parts live. But he also wanted someone to add things to a lot of the other songs, which I did. I didn't really step too far beyond the instruments that we had grown up listening to. So if you listen to the Use Your Illusions, there's a lot of piano, of course, and Hammond organ and some clavinet. Stuff like that.

But later on, with Chinese Democracy, I spent a lot more time exploring with different synth sounds and computer-based sounds and integrating that in with the guitar. But there's still tonnes of piano. I got to help with and write a lot of the string arrangements, which is something I've always wanted to do. It was such a blast to be able to put together something like that and to go and watch an orchestra record it.

It has been reported that Axl has written a lot of new material. When might we be able to hear some?

There?s a lot of material that is in the can and there?s a lot of ideas that we?ve been throwing around. Everyone?s been sending stuff back and forth, and there?s a lot of stuff ready to go. When we?re ready to make that step, it will happen. It will happen quicker than the last album, let?s put it that way.

What?s it like to work with Axl on writing songs?

You know, I can?t really imagine what it would be like to not make music the way he does it. Working with him has taught me a lot. He?s a bit of a perfectionist, I guess. Because of that it always brings out the best in everyone that?s working there [in the studio], and also out of me. You need some tension to make the best recordings you can make. It?s easy to get something that sounds kick-ass and just roll with it and say, ?Hey, there it is. We?re done.? But everything should have a second go around ? or three ? to make sure it?s right. I think Axl?s work ethic has really rubbed off on me.

Are there a lot of misconceptions out there about what Axl is like as a person?

Absolutely. Of course. Unfortunately, in the world we?re living in ? especially today ? negativity sells. That?s all people want to know about. When you make it to the top of the heap, everybody wants to knock you off. Things have always been like that. The more a person fights that, then the more it gets thrown back at them. If you took anybody and just presented all the negative things about them ? a lot of them untrue or exaggerated ? then you?re not going to think too highly of that person. So there?s misconceptions, definitely.

Guns, no poses - Interview DJ Ashba

March 1, 2013

Guns N' Roses guitarist DJ Ashba knows there is no point trying to whitewash the reality of life in one of rock'n'roll's most contentious bands.

''It's the craziest roller-coaster ride you'll ever be on,'' laughs the 40-year-old, ''but I wake up every day grateful to be in the position I am. I don't know many guitar players out there who wouldn't kill to be in my spot, so I refuse to take it for granted.''

Ever since the original Guns N' Roses line-up emerged from the Los Angeles club scene with their incendiary debut album in 1987, Appetite for Destruction, extravagant rumour and hedonistic scandal have routinely accompanied the band's 100 million album sales. In the 1990s, reclusive singer Axl Rose took over the group and there was a 17-year gap between studio albums before 2008's Chinese Democracy was released.

The difference, Ashba believes, is that since the current line-up came together in 2009, when he joined with several others, Guns N' Roses have been a band again.

''We're a solid band now,'' Ashba says. ''Before that, members were coming and going and it was a different time. We've toured for four years almost constantly and we haven't missed one show since I've been in the band. All that stuff has come to an end and Axl is very inspired.''

Ashba and fellow guitarist Ron ''Bumblefoot'' Thal have become the band's public face, giving interviews and attending meet-and-greet events with fans. It is a small price to pay for being able to play the iconic lead guitar parts for tracks such as Sweet Child O' Mine, a song that a teenage Daren Jay Ashba practised religiously on his first guitar.

Ashba's ease within a notoriously fractious band may also stem from his outside business interests.

Instead of perpetually obsessing over Guns N' Roses, he plays shows and then focuses on his media consultancy, fashion line and automotive detailing group.

''I always joke that I play guitar for a hobby and that really I'm an entrepreneur,'' he says. ''If you hung out with me at my house you would never know I played in Guns N' Roses. I'm not the guy sitting around patting myself on the back. I don't even like the word 'rock star'.''

GUNS N' ROSES

March 12, 6pm, Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park, ticketek.com.au, 13 28 49, $99-$169.

We like to keep it fresh, so one night will be different from the next. There?s nothing to me that?s more boring than going to see a band and they just play their entire album from beginning to end.

Well, that's bullshit.

Your comment is bullshit.

Congratulations, you've passed Pointless Posts 101.

Quote
There?s a lot of material that is in the can and there?s a lot of ideas that we?ve been throwing around. Everyone?s been sending stuff back and forth, and there?s a lot of stuff ready to go. When we?re ready to make that step, it will happen. It will happen quicker than the last album, let?s put it that way.

So basically, nothing had been done. I've heard every member say the exact same lines time and time again. I have never seen a band so lost and misguided as to what's going to happen as regards to new material.

Your own assumptions are based on a select quotes from band members.

Your have a few pieces of the puzzle and you think you can see what the whole puzzle is of. Funny shit.

How is my comment bullshit? Dizzy said that "one night will be different from the next," but they essentially play the same set-list every night, give or take a song or two. Hell, go look at Wikipedia for the European tour this past year. It was essentially the same set-list every single show, with maybe a different cover or Shacklers thrown into a show.

See quotes and twist them to be negative? I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic. I'm just pointing out the obvious bullshit of a interview with the guy who said this current band is Guns N' Roses when they have nothing to prove that besides playing other people's material. What he said about new material is essentially what every other member has said about new album. "Throwing idea's around," is just like Axl's "we'll see what we can do with the label." They don't know what's going on a regards to knew music. Or they do and their playing coy. Either way, it's been over 4 years since we got Chinese Democracy and there no news about a new album in sight.

And don't bash me or anything, I just want new music from my favorite musician (Axl Rose.) Chinese Democracy was a masterpiece and I would love to see what Axl has up his sleeves as regards to more material. Unfortunately Axl's been downgraded to a nostalgia act playing Vegas shows and on baseball cards with Kip Winger and the chick from the Cherry Pie video.

Read the whole bit.

They're not playing one album from start to finish every night.

I don't need to go read setlists on Wikipedia, I was there. It was far from boring.  : ok:

See quotes and twist them to be negative? I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic.

Realistic about what?

That you're reading setlists on Wikipedia and base that shows must be boring because of that?

If you were realistic, you'd actually realize 2009 until now has been amazing. We got a band that's touring instead of you complaining about them not doing anything.

I'm just pointing out the obvious bullshit of a interview with the guy who said this current band is Guns N' Roses when they have nothing to prove that besides playing other people's material. Sweet Jesus.

A lot of bands play songs that weren't written by the same exact line up that's on stage. Get over it.

And don't bash me or anything, I just want new music from my favorite musician (Axl Rose.) Chinese Democracy was a masterpiece and I would love to see what Axl has up his sleeves as regards to more material. You have a very funny way of showing it.

As a fan I'm sure you already know this, but somehow it seems like you and others with you, often conveniently forget it: Guns N' Roses does what they've always done. They do things their way. Don't try to force them to do something just because it works for you. That won't work.

You got some fans thinking that if they whine loud enough, they can force the band into the studio. If they whine about shows, the band won't play any shows and then magically an album will appear. They don't seem to think about the other possibility. That the band won't do anything. Which I guess to them is better than having them play "boring shows with the same setlist".

We've had breaks in the tour, but did we get a new album? All the Internet know-it-alls and wanna-be insiders fail to see this. They've been fans for sooooo long blah blah blah, so they know what Axl needs to do.
I don't know if I ever seen so many managers, song writers, record company executives, lawyers and other music industry professionals in one group of people as I've seen among GN'R fans.  :hihi:

Don't worry, the band will record/release material when they think it's time to do so. Not when it's convenient for somebody else somewhere else.

You got some so called fans accusing band members of lying when they speak about band related things. Just because the answer doesn't fit their agenda of the day. I'm sorry but I bet Dj, Dizzy, Richard and Ron know more about the band then most of these fans.

If band member A says he's written songs for the band, band member B says they got songs ready and band member C says they haven't been together as a band writing, how the fuck do all these contradict each other? Because they don't!

In the 80's bands would release 2 albums a year (give or take a few months). Granted those albums often were 35-45 minutes long but it was still a satisfying amount of new music..Those days are loooong gone...As much as I'd love new music I accet that there haven't been any announcements for same..I've been passing the time checking out old/recent footage on YouTube..Tons of it..

Times have changed. Nowadays people are prepared to spend more money on a cup of coffee than on a song or album. Then they listen to the music on cheap headphones.
We get faster and faster Internet connections, better and better video streaming options (even in HD), yet the music is still compressed files mostly listened to on cheap headphones.. Ironic!

Anyway, the tour starts this week in Perth.

There are always great crowds down under, they seem to really appreciate seeing great rock n' roll acts, especially Guns. I think after this set of AUS shows, GN'R might do a run of arena shows in the US... that seems to be the plan ATM I feel.

All those who are seeing the band in Australia, have a great fuckin time.  :peace:

Going to Sydney and the 2 Melbourne shows and am super pumped!
Pretty amazing that since 2007 I have seen GnR 5 times, Chinese Democracy was released and now going to see them 3 more times.
As a long time fan I never would have believed I'd be this lucky 10 years a go.
I feel bad for 'fans' who only see the negative as its an awesome feeling to just sit back and simply enjoy the band I love, their music and live performances!!!  :peace:

Unfortunately you'll always have people who are complaining about what they don't have, or what they won't get, instead of focusing on what they have.
Nobody really cares about what somebody on the other side of the globe, who's not planning on attending anyway, thinks of these shows. They weren't planned with those people in mind anyway!

Seems like GN'R went on way early, for a standard GN'R show. Del even wrote on FB how early the guys went on, so it's got to be out of the ordinary, wonder if it's a sign of things to come?.

they've been doing this for the last 3 years! without trouble.
they've even gone on earlier then they should have on a lot of occasions

Thanks for the history lesson, but I was merely stating how even Del posted the start time on Facebook, almost as if it was out of the ordinary.

Del
GNR onstage by 8:40pm!

I know GN'R's start times have been fine within the last few years, I'm not complaining, I actually love it when they go on really late cause I love the theatre of a GN'R show.  : ok:

Come on, sort it out Guns...  :-X

I guess because they've been a staple in the setlist for so long, you don't realise how much you'll miss them when they gone.
