The Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy has died in Los Angeles, according to reports.

Officials at the Los Angeles county coroner's office confirmed that the Cedars-Sinai medical centre in Beverly Hills reported the death there earlier today of a person named Brittany Murphy.

The Los Angeles fire department said it responded to an emergency call from the home of actress Brittany Murphy's husband.

Fire department spokesman Devon Gale said the call was made at 8am from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, who is married to Murphy. One person was transported to a hospital.

The entertainment website TMZ reported that Murphy, 32, went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived. She was said to have been pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The actor, who was born in Atlanta, began her career on television as a teenager before her breakthrough role in the 1995 film Clueless, which starred Alicia Silverstone.

Murphy went on to star opposite rapper Eminem in 8 Mile and appeared in the comic book adaptation Sin City.

She also provided the voice for Luanne Platter in long-running animated television series King of the Hill and Gloria the penguin in box office smash Happy Feet.

She had a brief relationship with actor Ashton Kutcher in 2002 after filming the comedy Just Married, in which they both appeared, and married Monjack in 2007.

That is so sad. She was so beautiful. I loved her in UPTOWN GIRLS. RIP Brittany. :'(

so sad...while I didn't think she was a great actress, any time a young person dies it makes me sad.  :(

They're saying that she died from natural causes.

That's even more sad.  An OD I can comprehend, but someone so young (a female at that) just waking up one morning and curtains?

Her death has rocked this city.  She was never in the press for negative reasons, she just did her thing and kept out of the public eye for the most part.

I read she was taking prescription meds legally and that mixed with an illness or something she had could've caused it.

One of the reports said that when the ambulance arrived, her mother told them that Brittany suffered from diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is the really serious one that can cause organ failure and, sadly, can be fatal.

She had long running weight battles.  I wonder (and I suppose we'll find out) if she was using ephederine.  It can cause heart damage, pretty severe heart damage if used long term.  It could very easily cause a 32 year old woman to drop dead...because she'd have the heart of a 70 year old.

The current explanation is the death was of natural causes AND that she'd had some flu-like symptoms of late.  It could have been an undiagnosed heart condition, I suppose.  But I find that pretty unlikely. 

In any case, it's very sad.  Nobody should die that young, and nobody's familiy should have to go through losing someone that young.

She just happened to be in the bathroom when she died? sounds like an overdose to me.

Feels safer in the bathroom for some when you get death-symptoms.

This is freaky stuff, a strong 32YO dying like that even if it's by a disease like diabetes or something.
