Title: Late Night with Jimmy
Post by: cineater on March 03, 2009, 12:30:51 AM
Fallon's scheduled opening-night guests include Robert De Niro and Justin Timberlake, with Van Morrison his musical guest. It airs at 12:35 a.m. EST.

Van Morrison for his first musical guest.  How cool is that?

They're keeping Jay Leno, he'll just go on at 10 (EST I assume), before the Tonight Show.

And personally, I find Jay Leno incredibly boring.  Conan is hilarious!

Conan is a comic legend and genius. Im counting the days until he takes over for unfunny Leno.  Fallon had a HUGE act to follow, and can never replace Conan, but his show last night was OK. He's likable and can be funny. Im giving him a chance. I cant wait to see Conan live, now that he's in my town.

No one dumped Leno, he stated 2 years ago (or more) now that he was going to retire from the show and give it to Conan.  NBC desperately wanted to keep him so that's why they are doing his earlier show-so he didn't jump networks.

I think Conan is great though and hopefully Fallon will learn to be a little less nervous over time.

I actually heard differing rumors that Leno was kind of politely asked to retire. I heard they were afraid of losing Conan to a rival network, so they put the wheels in motion for him to take over.

Fallon is always jumpy and shit. Remember the VMA's? it is just kind of his shtick. that i drank 10 pots of coffee nervous energy thing.

I also hope Fallon is able to calm down..

BUT Conan is seriously, one funny guy! I remember back in the days when Andy Richter was still on the show. He and Conan were so amazing together...laughing so hard tears were coming down...too bad Andy isn't coming back...no matter, I'd still choose to watch Conan over any of the other late night baffons

I don't like Conan because of the mean things he said about Axl, and the way he ignored his illegitimate son.

exactly, he wasn't.

I think at 1st he wanted to retire so he announced on the show (it was a huge deal at the time) that he would be passing the buck to Conan in 2009.

Since then I guess he decided he wanted to come back in a different capacity.

Im not sure the story, I just read a bunch of stuff online and heard others talking about it on TV that he was pretty much forced out. Retirement thing was sort of a towing the company line thing

Even though I like Conan a lot better than Leno, I'll be watching Letterman every night instead.

Jimmy Fallon's off to a rough start, imo. Some of his skits are just way too corny and unfunny. Plus he's not a very good interviewer. I'm sure he'll get better, though.

I personally would push the guy who plays Edward over, pull Axl up and then sit there and have a good laugh and then thank God he won't be making any more of those horrific films.

It would be Edward because I love Axl most of all. But not to fear Edward is a vampire with super human strength so he will be OK. I admire Rob Pattinson's acting and he is totally hot but I am not in love with him, I am in love with the fictional character Edward Cullen. I spent a summer in England studying Shakespeare. I met an older man who was an actor who told me not to confuse an actor with the character he plays.

wait a sec...you are actually in love with a fictional character? ...so someone could say they are in love with a TV personality or Bugs Bunny? I just have to ask how you know you are in love with a fictional character? or 'in love' with Axl...are you actually 'in love' with the IDEA of who these people or characters are? who you perceive them to be?
help me understand please.thanks.

Believe me, I am far from being the only girl who is in love with Edward Cullen. It's all in good fun. Just a nice little escape from the bad things in the world.

When Jimmy was interviewing Tina they discussed how she was sitting behind Mickey Rourke at the Oscars. They showed a picture. She said" who's that guy is he the devil," and Jimmy said," No that's Robert Pattinson the TWILIGHT dude. And Tina said," he's one sexy devil. "later when they were looking at old SNL pictures he told Tina that she looked like Dracula, and she said no that's Robert Pattinson. :hihi:

Ok. Jay Leno was forced to leave the tonight show. A few years ago just before Conan signed on there were heavy rumors that CBS was pursuing Conan as the replacement for David Letterman. Even going as far as negotiating with him. NBC saw this and said no were not gonna lose Conan. So they signed him on to take over the tonight show in 2009.

Since than there have been heavy rumors of Fox, CBS, even ABC going after Leno. With I believe fox leading the pack. Because of that and the tv landscape its cheaper for NBC, which is in the tank, to have Leno on 5 nights a week in primetime than it is to have a scripted show.

So yes, Leno was forced to give up the tonight show to Conan. But now he gets his own show in Primetime so we'll see how that works.

For the record, I love Conan O'brian. And love how he said on his final show, "everyone keeps telling me to grow up. Well I'm here to tell you i'm not growing up. If you don't like me now, your not gonna like me on the Tonight Show." Its just a shame the masturbating bear couldn't make the move.  I'll miss Abe too. But at least hes free now to roam the country side.  :hihi:

Now, on topic. You could tell Jimmy was nervous with Deniro. Not nearly as bad as Conan in the early days but you could still see it. Much better with Tina Fey. Probably because they worked together for awhile. I like Jimmy and hope it succeeds. I'm giving him a shot to entertain me.  :smoking:

Jimmy's show is getting better. He has this charisma about him. Friday's and Monday's shows were hilarious. Thank god for Hulu otherwise I would have never seen Fridays great show.

His monologue sucks but after that intial 5 minutes its a pretty good show. Did he keep writers from Conan's show to do his monologue or what cuz damn both of their monologues suck.  :hihi: :smoking:
