Title: Download Festival 2009
Post by: Hammy on February 13, 2009, 11:47:11 AM
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d161/TheStonedMaids/Download2009.jpg)

Well I have Korn and Limp Bizkit to take me back to when I was 16...17 and had awful music taste, few beers and its all good.

Def Leppard and Whitesnake, classic acts who I like but have never had the chance to see.

And Motley Crue, classic act, who I saw there a few years ago and really enjoyed  8)

As for the rest, I either don't know them....or don't want to  :D

Edit: I tell a lie, I like Dragonforce as well.  :headbanger:

The General public have moaned about the festivals decline in quality for years. With all the emo bands they put on. So im sure either the same amount will complain still. Or it will fix the issue :)

I hope anyway. Motley Crue had a big crowd draw last time they played.

Crue were fuckin amazing in that tent in 07  add onto that the fact that buckcherry and VR played the day before made it an amazing weekend for me. Dont know if Motorhead, Priest and then Kiss in one afternoon in 08 topped it or not, my head exploded with excitement lol

A lot will come down to who collides with who.  With 3 stages I often have to miss out on acts I want to see Manson was one last Download I was at or the one before even, I forget.

With ZZ Top I know they are deemed legendary/classic, but I've only heard like one song by them and I wasn't too thrilled.

I'm holding out for additions like Monster Magnet and Hardcore Superstar and on the smaller stages, up close and personal I always prefer, the problem with the main stage is you could crash a plane between the front of the stage and front barrier.

We missed Manson in 2007 because we wanted to get to the front in the tent for Motley Crue, remember?

And being drunk, that can always lead to picking inferior bands due to the inability to be arsed moving, well that's my excuse for us having seen My Chemical Romance over Korn and I'm sticking to it!

Depends. Like most bands trying to make a comeback. They are being pumped out routinely on rock music channels here in the UK. So.... im unsure whether theyd get the the shit bottled out of them. Or if they will be praised.

Limp Bizkit welcomed with open arms and GN'R getting shit thrown at them....

The third headliner is Faith No More.

I'd assume Manson and Korn are more popular than Faith No More...  ???

Did they even play arenas when they were together?

I guess the novelty of a reunion helps though.

So i dont think so

i think everybody here knows that man  :P but thank you captain obvious

i'm not talking about 87 though, bat out of hell sold like 35-40 million but that doesn't mean meat loaf is bigger in 2009 then coldplay for example

i'm not saying any of those 2 should headline download

but I'm saying that just because DL had some huge albums all that time ago doesn't mean people are that eager to see them now, especially when they haven't released any huge sucess albums as of lately (right?) and have toured pretty frequently the last couple of years eh?

also, I'm pretty sure manson and korn would be considered bigger in Sweden then DL but that might differ to England (maybe since they're from there and all)

Title: Re: Download Festival 2009
Post by: mrlee on March 03, 2009, 07:37:51 PM
DL still have a very dedicated fanbase in england.

They have also had a bit of a revival in recent years with people my age, due to songs like pour some sugar on me, and lets get rocked receiving air play once more. Practically, half of the kids in my village have one of their songs on their mobile phone.

When i went to see DL tour the arena was full.

I'm still deliberating over whether to go. I've auditioned for a lead part in a play and I've seen all the bands there I want to see - I don't know whether it'll be worth going if I get it... If not I will. I have a feeling that only Axl could make me go if I get this. Crue were brilliant in 07 and so were Buckcherry but good enough to pay out and go again... Hmmmmm. GN'R won't do it again (well I sincerely doubt it - and who can blame them after the hecklers and shit at the 06 gig - phenomenal as they were...)... But I can dream (and do, frequently).  ;D

It's a sad and sickening place.   :( Last time I saw Crue there I walked past the main stage (Linkin Park  :P ) afterwards and some little chick shouted 'Motley Crue Suck' at me before literally ducking behind her bewildered boyfriend. I just laughed at her and said 'Ok - you have a nice night chicky' and winked at her partner. *Shakes head* - why do people feel the need to be ****s like that - just watch your band and be happy - I wasn't being nasty to her - I didn't say anything derogatory about the band she was watching. People.   ::)

I will probably not be there, but if by some miracle I have a decent excuse to go to england, I hope to see Chris Cornell, Opeth, Meshugga, and Loaded all on the main stage (that would make almost everyone I would be coming to see so far on one stage).  Either way, I am SO following this on youtube.  Amazing lineup.

Anyhow, aside from those four Slipknot, Dragonforce, and Dream Theater would be the ones I'll follow for sure.  I might follow Def Leppard (don't know 'em might a few guys recommended them.  Plus, a one-armed drummer?), Korn (don't know them but after what happened to there lead singer last year, I can't help but to chear them on), and Motley Crue (only heard one song by them, but I liked what I was hearing(.  Anyways, for those guys saying "OMG this isn't as great as the other years!"  Keep in mind that the list is only half-complete so far.
