Title: 5 of the most controversial video games

I remember all of these, althought I haven't played Bully or the GTA SA yet.

Cool article...

I didn't know a game was "blurred" out in some areas because of violence, must of been violent..

Mortal Kombat is conspicuously missing.  The rest of the list seems right.

yeah I remember people being all up in arms about Mortal Kombat back in 93 or 94....I guess a little blood and guts pales in comparison to todays games where you bang hookers and then  kill them and take their money...

That list blows. Only thing they listed that actually belongs there is Doom.
I really hope it's as poor list as i think it is. It would be depressing if game industry were so tame and lame that some softcore porn fest,100000th sequel to GTA series  and Bully were actually among most controversial games ever.

Atleast Harvester is missing. That was pretty memorable little combination of a David Lych Flick and splatter. Good game too.

..Offtopic,
Imo Vice City is only GTA that is actually fun to play. Havent tried the new one enough to be sure about it yet tho.
I wonder why every single GTA game must have fucking stupid camera angles  and horrible controls.
Vice city atleast managed to be moody enough. It does hell of a  job at capturing the  (Hollywoodialized)  feel of the era. SA didn't takcle it that well at all. VC is a very fun game as long as you just drive around  with your stolen car and listen to the radio^^

Those were the most controversial games though.  Night Trap and San Andreas were the subjects of congressional hearings.

I thought it captured the spirit of the early '90s very well.

Wow...I completely disagree.  Of GTA3, VC, and SA...VC is probably the worst.  I do think they did a good job capturing the look of 1980s Miami, but the story is flimsy, the map isn't very big, and you can play through it very quickly.  San Andreas, though it has flaws (especially PC controls of planes, etc.), had an enormous map, a LOT of missions across a very in depth story line, and I thought they captured 90s South Central LA (and LA, San Francisco, and Las Vegas in general) very well.  But, hey, to each his own I guess.

I suppose dissing SA's failure to capture what it pursues is unfair if you are European. I have a hunch it takes a yankee to fully feel the whole "surprisingly tense early 90's in L.A" -  thing. It's not something you continuously  keep stumbling on when consuming pop-culture, it remains a bit alien.
..Whereas everyone feels right at home in Vice City, Scarface, Miami Vice, whatnot. Average person has tons of beacons that guide you to right mood.

Story line was one of the things that pissed me off in SA. The story tried too hard to be very ambitious and serious and present through the whole thing.
I think it's a very bad idea to build a serious plot around general emoing around regarding death of someone when fun of the entire game is in killing an assload of people :D
