Title: The Sisters Of Mercy
Post by: mrlee on May 01, 2008, 02:56:16 PM
never got into there albums fully, started getting material by them recently cause the songs ive listened to so far are great 80s gothic rock/synth

I got into them when i read an articles in a magazine which claimed the singer was a gothic Axl Rose (in the fact he is a perfectionist and the only original in the band and taking years to release a new album) so i checked them out.

Anyone like them? (they also have a song on the new GTA soundtrack which is GREAT)

Cor, I haven't given them a listen in years. Are they still together?, in one form or another. Last I heard was that they were making some sort of protest against their record company. Though I seem to remember hearing about some show they were doing last year... You know, well, I really don't know why I bother to ask that a question like that. I'll no doubt end up on Wikipedia now, probably for hours. And I have two essays due in and an exam in the next seven days. So thank you very much for sending my down that path, you bastard.

Anyway, I'll sign off with what used to be one of my favourites of theirs. No video, unfortunately. But, listening now, it still sounds pretty good to me. Which is a suprise. A lot of what I listened to back then is border line embarrasing to me these days.

I see you're expanding your gothic horizons mrlee, great band - well done.

Check out Sex Gang Children, Southern Death Cult, Theatre of Hate and Into A Circle if you really wanna hear some gothic/tribal stuff..

SDC and Theatre of Hate are, Into A Circle contained a couple ex members of SDC (not Ian) while Sex Gang Children was both Billy and Ian free.

One more is an absolute must:

Joy Division.

Probably the defining band of that era, simply amazing.

Check out the movies "24 Hour Party People" and The Ian Curtis (Joy Division frontman) bio pic, "Control" for reference.

I love Joy Division.

I've always found that the title track for Chinese Democracy has a really cool Joy Division vibe to it.

Favorite album is an eitght track piece call "Vision thing". The 8 songs are simply superb..."when you dont see me", "on detonation Blvd", the sublime "More" and my personal favorite and male/female duet of all time "Something fast".
