NEW YORK ?  One month after CBS Radio fired radio host Don Imus, it has permanently pulled the plug on a pair of suspended New York shock jocks for a prank phone call rife with offensive Asian stereotypes.

"The Dog House with JV and Elvis," hosted by Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, "will no longer be broadcast," CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo said Saturday.

The cancellation of the show on WFNY-FM, nearly three weeks after the hosts were suspended, was another indication of the increased scrutiny on radio hosts and the heightened management sensitivity to complaints in the wake of the Imus firing.

CBS Radio dismissed Imus in April for his racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team.

Vandergrift and Lay broadcast a call to a Chinese restaurant in which the caller, in an exaggerated accent, placed an order for "shrimp flied lice," claimed he was a student of kung fu, and compared menu items to employees' body parts.

The initial airing of the call went unnoticed, but a rebroadcast after Imus's firing prompted an outcry from Asian-American groups. Vandergrift and Lay were initially suspended without pay, but Asian-Americans quickly demanded the same penalty applied to the much higher-profile Imus.

"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.

Mateo would not comment on the status of the DJs' contracts or whether they were still on the CBS payroll.

Imus plans a $120 million breach of contract suit against CBS Radio.

I think some comments can be uncalled for, but the Imus precedent has created a situation where any kind of ethnic joke, even lighthearted is creating a stir. I have a feeling it is going to get so bad any off color or non-politically correct comment will get people fired.

Things like this often happen in a pendulum like fashion.  If there becomes a time where there are NO exceptions for low brow-"offensive" jokes/comments there will just be a backlash and it will swing the other way.

It its pretty stupid to fire someone over a joke . But I remember why Korns guitarist went all jesus freaky some Dj's got shit caned for say Korn gave head to god .

the best part about this is that the people they actually played the joke on were not offended...

this whole thing is stupid...

they made the joke and no one cared.. then the imus thing happend and someone went "hey-   i remember a bit someone did THREE weeks ago making fun of asians,  they should be fired too".   
 
i've never heard the show that JV and Elvis do... I've never heard of JV and Elvis...   maybe they do nothing but make fun of asians all the time? that i would understand firing them for ..   but im going to bet they also poke fun at blacks, mexicans, gays, asians and canadians all the same.     

the worst part of all this is CBS will not pay them even if they have a contract.

Seriously, some of you are just retarded.  Nobody is saying these shock jocks don't "have the right" to say this shit, but their employers certainly have the right to fire them if they feel its inappropriate.  why don't all of you "freedom of speech" advocates go into work tomorrow and start screaming racial and ethnic slurs and see if you don't get fired.

That's certainly the truth.  George Will expressed it well when he wrote "When, in the multiplication of entitlements, did we produce an entitlement for everyone to go through life without being annoyed by anything?" 

People get so worked up about racial jokes but what they don't seem to get is this:  if people are laughing about racial differences, they probably aren't the same ones who are propagating hate toward other races.  I've yet to see the Ku Klux Klan Stand Up Comedy Hour or Black Panther Night at the Improv. 

I can take all the white guy jokes you can dish out.  Chances are I'll find some of 'em funny.  And I feel sorry for those who can't tell the difference between racial humor and bigotry.

It'll be interesting to see where it stops.  at some point the majority of people will start getting really annoyed at how sensitive people are getting.  This example was just one organization being opportunistic....  if anything, they are just showing how ridiculously PC things can get sometimes.
