In Canada, they are like 6 years behind the rest of the world... They probably don't have texting... or understand it yet... Good people though... I dated a girl from Kitchener... Too bad, that her parents didn't want to lose both of their daughters to Americans...

Is that like the Staples "easy" button?  I really want one of those.

Maybe, just maybe....people there are just enjoying the show and it has nothing to do with technological capabilities of our members there?

Title: Re: November 20 - Halifax, NS @ Halifax Metro Centre [DISCUSSION]
Post by: daubs on November 21, 2006, 02:05:30 AM
Ok so here is my review of my first gnr concert.

die mannequin was first. i acually liked them. I had heard 2 of their songs and really liked them. the singer was alittle too cliche rocker (power slides ect.) but i thought they did a good job.

next suicide girls...not alot to say about them, they gave us what we were promised...

the trews were AMAZING. they always are great live. got a good reception, being home towners, sort of. they sounded great and were headlining quality.

Ok gnr, here are the songs that were played, in close but not exact order

welcome to the jungle
its so easy
mr.brownstone
live and let die
sweet child
better
you could be mine
the blues
november rain
my michelle
liquor and whores (trailer park boys)
out to get me
nightrain
madagascar
paradise city

i may have left a few out, but as to my review

they were amazing. full of energy. Axl was on his game, voice got stronger as it went on. the best songs in my opinion were live and let die, nightrain, paradise city, welcome to the jungle and out ta get me. the trailer park boys got a huge ovation. show started around 11:45 and ended at 2 sharp. the new songs didnt get as much of an ovation, as to be expected, but people were digging them for sure. i was watching the pit and people were swaying to them.

the only problem was 4 drunk guys in front of me who kept hugging each other and holding hands above their heads. and this one guy, some girl came over and sat on his lap and they just made out for like 5 songs. i didnt mind that so much, but the hugging and stuff was getting on our nerves as they blocked our view all the time and talked loudly thru the whole show.

anyways it was the best concert ive been too, everything i hoped for. hope they come back next year with some new material.

Yeah I guess you may have left a few out,
I don't think they played 15 songs.
Richard said they were rehearsing "Civil WaR"
Would like to see that one in the future

Ok, It was a good show. Axl is on his game.
All the solos just killed the crowd that were already tired.
Yes they can all play their guitars... no shit, that's why they are part of the band.. but 3 guitar solos at about 10 minutes or more each gets a bit much.
The only people that really stood all night were the people on the floor, everyone else had a seat and watched the show.
And is the soundman Axl's dad or something?
Can't they fire that guy and get someone that knows how to do a vocal mix, I mean c'mon.. people went to hear the songs song by Axl.. you could see his lips move but not much come out. Until the end when he nailed everything.
FIRE THE SOUND MAN!
I had a good time but can honestly say it wasn't in my top 5 concerts I have ever been to.
As for singing along, sure there was a couple songs but for the most part people just watched the show.
Not to compare but when Motley Crue played.. nobody sat down and everyone sang ALL NIGHT.
Yes I think there were alot of GnR fans there but I also think there were alot of curious onlookers.
Am I still a GnR fan?
Sure
Would I go again, yup. I had a great time.

I know I'll probably get ripped apart on this post but it's how the show came across to me and people I went with.

Liquor and Whores was funny and Axl seemed into it.. said they may add it as a staple and pay The TPB's royalties..lol

Oh yeah and no booze on sale at the event was retarded..lol
Die Mannequin = something to find your seat to.
Suicide Girls = Much better looking onstage than off. But I think I have to buy my wife a hoola-hoop.. DAMN!
The Trews = great show, just most of their songs sound the same.

i agree at first it was hard to hear axl in certian parts. its too bad they have jungle and live and let die first cuz there are some awesome screams in thoes which are missed early but it seems like he nails thoes later in the show. the best part of LALD i always thought was the scream during the guitar parts, but early in the show it just sounds weak.

whateve,r the show was great and im very happy. got my moneys worth.

side note, anybody know what happened at bubbles mansion? i went by with my ticket and i heard they had clsoed, any idea on a refund or something?

Rocket Queen returns?!?
I was thrilled to get it in the set - that was one of my favourites back when I first heard Appetite!

Here's my attempt at a review... Just got home now at 330am, but I'm still wired up, so why not write for a bit.

Die Mannequin, I thought they were alright... not really my cup of tea. Found them too close to emo / punk rock for my tastes.

Suicide Girls were a bizarre little act to have between bands. Some of the wives in the audience didn't seem too impressed with it! I got a chuckle out of it in parts. The hula hoop act made me laugh. Some hot girls, but I would've prefered another band.

The Trews really impressed me. They might be the new Sloan! Great vibe, great sound, nice all-around set of good-old-fashioned rock and roll. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for when they're in town again.

Guns finally hit the stage around midnight, five hours after the doors opened. Typical Axl...! But it was well worth the wait. What a great show! It was heavy on hits, but that was to be expected. The new songs went over well. The first one they played was Better, which got a great response. Sounded awesome, too! The bootlegs dont' capture the heaviness of it, especially the three-guitars part near the end. At first I was a little thrown off, as on the leaked demo, Buckethead(?) plays this great little lick around 1:26 in... I've become quite attached to it! Ron Thal changed it up a bit, which threw me for a loop!

I thought The Blues sounded really good too. One of my favourite Robin Finck solos of the night, and it fits into the set really well after Dizzy's solo (an unexpected highlight).

We got Madagascar as an encore, which was unexpected - I thought that it'd be Chinese Democracy, which it turned out wasn't played. The people around me were real silent at first when it kicked in, but by the end, it gathered quite a bit of applause. The MLK video works well with it. Great tune.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the inclusion of Night Train, My Michelle, and Rocket Queen into the set. I haven't followed the boots that closely for this tour, and hadn't known they were playing them. Liquor and Whores gave the show a bit of a sense of uniqueness too.

Some thoughts on the band:

Axl is in great shape! Running about the stage all night, sang very well (sounded much better than the '02 shows I've heard), and appeared to be in a jovial mood. I was struck by his professionalism throughout the show - didn't shit-talk anyone, and frequently stepped into the background to let the band show off, as if to prove that he has a solid cast of musicians with him. A far cry from his more obnoxious image in the 90s, but IMO, a great improvement!

Dizzy - I never would've expected to rank a piano solo as a highlight of a rock concert, but this was definately one of my favourite spots to the night.

Fortus - He surprised me. With Buckethead gone, I find that Fortus sticks out the most onstage, just for his lanky frame, animated stage antics, and brighter colours than the others. I hadn't known that he actually played a number of leads during the shows; I'd assumed that was Finck/Bucket/Thal territory. His solo spot was nice, too.

Finck - I've had a mixed opinion of Robin Finck ever since my introduction to the new Gn'R through the 2002 Rock in Rio vid. Good guitar player, he's obviously got the chops for the job, and he's got a cool stage presence on this tour - looks like a rockstar as opposed to someone auditioning for Marylin Manson. He plays the old songs (and the new ones!) well for the most part, but I really disliked his solo spot - found it to be mostly noise and thrashing around... ho-hum. Didn't like his take on Patience either... it was sounding good until he toook the solo. I'll look forward to hearing his playing on the album, so I'll be able to form a better opinion of him. Has he recorded anything other than his stuff with NIN that's worth hearing, anyone know?

Ron Thal - Amazing. Axl didn't fool around, looking to replace Buckethead. This guy is every bit as warped and spectacular in his playing, and like Bucket, is content to hang out on the side of the stage and not draw attention to himself. Pure class. I was surprised that he didn't handle more of the solos - seemed like Finck did quite a bit more, but it might've just been because Thal was on the opposite side of the stage from me, and I couldn't always hear him clearly.

The New Drummer Guy - Who is this guy, and where did Axl find him? I thought he did a very good job filling in for Brain.

Overall, a great show - definately the best rock concert I've been to so far.

axls voice was PEFRECT, stretched a bit on chinese democracy but other then that it was honestly flawless.

Props to all the guitarists in the new GNR for complimenting slashs/izzy's wonderful styles and WOW.

unbeleiveable.

ill come back tommorow with a real review cuz im a lil fukked rigt now.

but all in all, go see Gnr because its a real rock and roll show (even tho u  couldnt buy beer at this venue)

p.s learn the lyrics to dont cry, so the next time ron thal plays it u can help him out and show a bit of support :)

I know what you're saying, and almost agree with you - I'd be happy to see them drop Finck and Fortus's solos and just let Thal do his thing. ?:D But at the same time, I can understand letting them each have their own moment in the spotlight. There've been so many jokes and such made about Guns, and how long CD is taking to be released, that I can see Axl letting his band members strut their stuff for a few minutes just to show people he means business.

Having three guitar solos does kill the momentum though. Go through two or three rockers, sit down for a solo, repeat. I didn't mind it in the least, but I'd take more songs over them in a second.

Also, have Live and Let Die, and Knockin' on Heaven's Door always been so early in the setlist? I hadn't expected them to be among the first handful of songs.

the only solo that killed the crowd imo was the beatiful duet.

ppl were caught off guard to say the least and to strike back with out ta get me was a bit misleading.

props to dizzy for a wonderful piano solo. FUCKING AWESOME, see it for yourself if possible.

p.s the whole bubbles mansion thing was a scam :)

Long time member here at htgth this was my first GNR concert ever!!!!!
I was standing prolly 10 feet away from Axl on the floor, and this concert totally kicked my ass!!!!!!!!!!! incredible!!! Axl was in prime shape hit the notes and was dancin and runnin like a madman.
Im sorry I cant remeber the exact order of the setlist i wasnt gonna sit there with a pen I was just headbanign and singing all night but heres the songs they played
 welcome to the jungle
its so easy
mr brownstone
live and let die
knockin on heavens door
better
you could be mine
the blues
out ta get me
november rain
rocket queen-AWESOMEEE
patience
Liqour and whores with the trailer park boys
night train
my michelle
madagascar
paradice city
may have missed some i dont know. The crowd around me was loving it!!! new songs got some confusion but madagascar was the best received I heard people around me that were like blown away by it. Before GNR hit the stage a fight almost broke out in the crowd some chick and a dude this chick slapped buddy in the face. And during November rain a fight almost broke out lol.
When the trews played for some reason security came over to me and my buddy and thought we were taking pictures even though either of us had a camera on us, he said "Axl says if theres a camera that flashes at me Im walkin of stage" total bull shit security guard was just bein a knob.

You can watch this band on youtube, or tv or whatever but nothing does them justice until youve seen them live the solos were incredible axls voice phenominal I was soo happy they played rocket queen and madagascar never thought i was gonna hear those two!!! especially with madagascar commin during the encore. Axl looked like he was loving the show same as the rest of the band!!! Halifax had a crazy atmosphere I cant wait too see these guys again

10,400.

I'm not sure if it would've been exactly that, as I'm not sure how many folks were on the floor, and they had to rope off a couple sections to make room for the stage.

A hoy hoy gang, I just woke up from a great show.

I saw the shows in Ontario in 2002 and man has Axl improved, the band too. I have to agree with people that the solos do take away from the show but I did really enjoy Ron's.

He got everybody standing for his rendition of O' Canada, but a lot of people there didn't realize he was playing Don't Cry, or at least the pepole around me didn't. But Ron being the great guy sang the words so people would get it. It was really cool watching ?him from 20 feet front and centre from the stage, and of course the rest of the band.

The crowd erupted both times they broke out the paino, of course they nuts once Axl sat down to play. Ron's solo during that song was insane, the crowd seem to really like Ron.

To watch Axl sing Liquor and Whores was classic. God, I have never seen him smile so much, he was truely enjoying himself. I wish I had the pictures but when I snunk my camera in the batteries fell out without me knowing it. Go figure.

Dizzy's panio solo was The Stones " Angie". It was a great rendition but again with the solos.

I can honestly say that there was alot more interaction within the band. It was first time I ever seen Robin and Ron stand together and play front and centre during the PC outro.

Frank was awesome, the man worked the crowd and was truely enjoying himself.

And I have to say that I was impressed with the sound. Axl's vocals were down during the first couple of songs but ti was corrected as the show progessed. You could here everybody's guitars, something I was afriad of base reviews from previous shows. ?

I only caught the Trews opening act, ?but man I still really like these guys. They changed up their songs a lot, got a great response too.

I still haven't heard why there was no beer being sold? Didn't Axl cancel the Maine gig b/c he couldn't drink on stage :hihi: No Beer and no t.v makes Axl something something.

They did do the T & A show b/t sets but everytime a girl go to flash they camera people would shut the pitrure off. Not that I really care but it is a Guns N' Roses show. No beer, no flashing, really no beer!

All in all it was a great show. It was great to here Better live, man that song rocks hard. Axl nailed the screaming parts, and the band sounded amazing.

Well I'm off to relax my feet, god I'm still tired. I take it no one got into Bubble's Mansion after. I saw the line outside but I was so tired after that show that my friends and I called it a night. Plus I had to have my brother at the airport at 6 am.

I'm to Edmonton Sunday so I'm going to catch teh show there as well.

Later,

DH

I can appreciate strong solos myself. Really I can - I never had a problem with Slash doing them, and I don't have a problem with them now, but 3 guitar solos is too much - and I can't describe it completely but it fucking sucks the life out of the crowd - at MSG they went to them very early and it was awful

Christ what a great show. Only next time it would be nice to keep it to one opening act, by the time Axl and co. got on stage everyone on the floor was pretty much exhausted. Not that people weren't into the songs but the energy level was definitly lagging at times. Would of liked to hear civil war and you're crazy but rocket queen and the amazing performance of madagascar definitly made up for it, not to mention Liquor and whores with the trailer park boys. I don't know many other places where you can get ten thousand poeple singing along to that song together. Also Dizzy's solo had the whole arena awe struck, it really was beautiful what he did on that piano.

Fucking awesome concert, truely blown away, I can barely speak and or hear anything.  First act was pretty bad, the drummer though kicked ass, if it was just him, and him alone it probably would have been better.  The suicide girls were entertaining, although I think there set went on too long, I mean you pretty know whats comming by the 3rd time they pop back out onto the stage.  The trews were awesome, just liek I told everyone, they always bring a great show.  Of course gnr fucking rocked, un real show, Dizzy's solo was really a highlight, absolutely amazing.  The only piss off was not being allowed to bring in a camera, totally tried to sneak it in 2 times, and they found my secret hiding place, bastards.

Ha - like NoticeBoy said, you got it right. It was friggin classic. Some memorable quotes from Bubbles on the night:

"This here's a song we play down at the legion sometimes.... called Liqour and Hoes"

"THAT'S AXL F*CKIN ROSE!!!"

What an unbelievable night for me - a diehard Axl fan for almost 20 years. This was my first, but not my last show.

You hit it man. Die Mannequin didn't impress anyone and pretty much got pity applause. The suicide girls were ok I guess but no one stood. The hula hoop bit was awesome. The trews were actually really kickass. I don't really like the studio version of songs but live that sounded raw and great , plus the sound miss was a lot better than die mannequin and later GNR. The vocal sound sucked and I didn't think it was Axl's voice cuzz at the end he started nailing it but at the first and middle of the set it was scratchy and shit. Good and all but not the best ever. NOTHING compared to motley crue. The fans at GNR sat like most of the show , even some people in the standing area , there was less singing along and less energy. I was amazed seeing people either just watch or seeing people sitting. The whole vibe wasn't as positive and high energy and it was harder to get into it. But it was still good and I'd probably do it again.

The acoustics are so bad at the Metro Centre though, a lot of the sound quality really depends where you end up sitting unfortunately. The best sound quality I've heard there was probably BB King, in 2002 or so... that was from the middle of the floor section. It also wasn't as loud of a show obviously, which helped a bit. The worst sound I've heard at a concert there was Damageplan when they opened for Slayer... I was in the lower bowl on the bassist's side, and virtually all I could hear were drums, some guitar, muddled vocals, and a whole lot of distortion.

It's one of the drawbacks to a 3 guitar lineup, as well, I think, that it makes for a bit of a muddled live sound. I found it real difficult to hear Thal from where I was sitting, for most of the night.

No alcohol at the venue, but as I understand it the Metro Center never has alcohol at concerts.

I was most bothered when I went up for a drink to find no concession stands open at 12:30am and the vending machines turned off for this particular event.

No biggie though!

Rockin? the Metro Centre in the early mornin?
Gunners deliver two-hour-plus show led by consummate showman Rose
By STEPHEN COOKE Entertainment Reporter

Whoever coined the phrase "better late than never" must have been a Guns N? Roses fan.

A band that is used to setting records ? whether it?s having one of the biggest selling debut albums in history with Appetite for Destruction, or the first band to have simultaneously released discs sit at No. 1 and No. 2 on the chart, after the release of Use Your Illusion I and II ? it set a new one at the Halifax Metro Centre, as the first headliner to hit the stage at midnight.

But that?s generally been par for the course on this current Guns N? Roses tour, which the band has made up for by delivering an impressive two-hour-plus show featuring a high level of musicianship by a trio of crafty guitarists and founding member Axl Rose being the consummate showman.

Thankfully for the eager sold-out crowd at the downtown arena, Halifax was no different.

Guns N? Roses hasn?t played Atlantic Canada since the ?80s, when it opened for Iron Maiden and, if you can believe it, The Cult, and now it?s back as a headliner, albeit on tour for an album that?s been nearly a decade in the making and still hasn?t seen the light of day. But whatever demons dog this band, they didn?t appear on stage on Monday night as it tore through an enviable repertoire ? including most of Appetite for Destruction ? with a handful of songs from the long-awaited Chinese Democracy project for good measure.

With explosive flashpots and the churning riff of Welcome to the Jungle, GN?R hit the stage with gusto. "I wanna hear you scream," commanded Rose, and the crowd obliged. As the smell of pyrotechnics smoke hung in the air, the ornery vocalist performed his familiar sashay across the stage, clad in a shiny shirt, black wrap-around shades and with his braided hair pulled back into a pony tail.

Appetite tunes It?s So Easy and Mr. Brownstone followed, with guitarist Ron Thal looking like a Cossack in his wool hat and long black coat, before the pyrotechnics came back into play on Live and Let Die, a truly exciting rendition of the James Bond theme with sometimes Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck shining in the solo spot.

Finck was really in the solo spot after an extended Knockin? on Heaven?s Door, with inspired wailing from somewhere between David Gilmour and Frank Zappa, before launching into the iconic opening riff of Sweet Child O?Mine, prompting rousing cheers from the crowd, many of them squished together in a standing-room-only space on the floor in front of the stage.

While third guitarist Richard Fortus punched at his instrument, Finck soloed with wah pedal intensity.

Thal got his chance to show his stuff in the new tune Better and the Terminator 2 soundtrack song You Could Be Mine, which he played with full-throttle intensity while Rose whirled like a dervish around the stage.

Other six-string highlights included Fortus and Finck?s instrumental duet on Christina Aguilera?s Beautiful, of all things, and their consecutive solos on November Rain, which also saw one of the highest counts of lighters being held aloft I?ve ever seen at the Metro Centre.

The big surprise of the night ? well, a surprise to anyone who hasn?t read reviews of other Canadian concerts on this tour ? was an appearance by the Trailer Park Boys to perform a song Bubbles said "we play down at the Legion sometimes"; the infamous Liquor and Whores. Bubbles (a.k.a. actor/musician Mike Smith) sang with abandon, even knocking over Rose?s mic stand, while the GN"R vocalist could barely contain his laughter. In some ways it resembled a ramshackle live moment from the former career of bassist Tommy Stinson, in his old band the Replacements.

"We?re not too far from our own trailer park," grinned Rose. "I think that?s going to become a staple of our set. We?re going to have to play those guys some royalties."

Into the home stretch, GN?R played Appetite tunes like My Michelle and Night Train with punk fervour, while Thal did a solo version of O Canada that had the audience on its feet and singing along, before he indulged in some insane finger tapping on the fretboard.

At 2 a.m. the band hit its encore, starting with Chinese Democracy?s Madagascar, then the farewell strains of Paradise City.

Rose?s gravel-lined voice held out until the end (there were a few moments where I had my doubts), and in fact it seemed to get stronger as the night drew on. Who knows, if the band can maintain this level of performance and recreate the energy in the studio, Guns N? Roses could easily have a third decade in it.

Toronto trio Die Mannequin poured a ton of energy into their opening set, especially singer/guitarist Care Failure, but only generated a modest crowd response as many were still filtering in through the security checkpoints.

A quintet of Suicide Girls put on a striptease show that was supposed to be a lesson in cutting-edge sexuality, but mostly just felt like marketing.

At least I could appreciate the nearly nude restaging of Reservoir Dogs? infamous interrogation scene.

Local heroes the Trews were also on the bill, showing off well-honed arena rock chops, and looking like they were having the time of their lives. Thankfully, they kept their clothes on.

Well, I'm a day late with my review, but better late than never.  Did anyone else notice Del James and Frank Ferrer walking around the floor before the Trews came on.  They kept looking up at the crowd and walking around the floor.  Del even walked up the aisle by my section with a flashlight in one hand and a walkie in the other.  The show was absolutely fucking amazing.  I would have waited until 2am to see that.  It was everything I was expecting and more.  Axl sounded really good and he seemed to be having a helluva time.  At one point he ran over to the side of the stage near I was on and he went to close to the edge and it looked like he lost his footing for a sec...he could have landed in the pit if he hadn't corrected himself...a little scary.  The only bad thing that I can say about the show was that it went by way too fast.  I could have kept rockin' until 3am.  I went with a couple of fiends and my girlfriend:  My girlfriend has always given me such a hard time about being a Guns fan over the last few years because she's always considered them washed up...and the only reason she went to the show was because she knew it was huge for me to see them and she wanted to see my reaction, anyway she was really impressed with the show and has been telling everyone that i was a really good show.  That in itself blows my mind.  At some points in the show she would turn to me and be like " Wow, he can really move" with a little lust in her eyes  :hihi:  Anyway, well worth the wait and I'm sorry it is over  and I can't wait for them to return.  I was happily suprised that everyone stuck around to the end considering it didn't end until 2:15am.

the only problem was 4 drunk guys in front of me who kept hugging each other and holding hands above their heads. and this one guy, some girl came over and sat on his lap and they just made out for like 5 songs. i didnt mind that so much, but the hugging and stuff was getting on our nerves as they blocked our view all the time and talked loudly thru the whole show.

And as for sound in the Metro Centre being bad and depending on where you sit.. that's bull.

Too bad about the people in front of you man. Most of the people around me didn't sing along and didn't seem to recognize most of the songs. What a concert though! I was very happy to hear RQ played. Liquor and Whores was quite cool. Axl seemed to be really enjoying it. Did you end up getting a refund for the after party? They should have never sold tickets knowing the band would be on stage until at least 2.

Hi folks - Bubbles here. This is a message for anyone who had tickets to the GnR after party at Bubbles Mansion in Halifax but didnt get in. Here is essentially what happened. The party was advertised to be taking place at my bar after the concert and was advertised for 10pm-2am. I was originally told the concert would be over at midnight but the show went much later than it was supposed to (it didnt even end until after 2) and the liquor board had warned me that I couldnt have anyone in their past 2:30 or they would be coming with the police to remove everyone and would revoke my liquor license. They even went so far as to set up cameras in the hotel across the street to see if I would try and "defy" them. Anyway, I had promised Axl that I would have an after party for him so because of the liquor board, I was forced to relocate the party to my house. Obviously I couldnt tell everyone who had a ticket to come to my house but around 150 guests, including Axl, with his tour bus parked on my cul-de-sac and a massive amount of liquor, made it a legendary night. He even played for a bit on my grand piano.

So if anyone bought tix and was disappointed, feel free to drop down to the Mansion for a refund. I apologize that things unfolded that way, and the people expecting to catch a glimpse of Axl at the party were disappointed but it was due to circumstances completely beyond my control. Thanks for understanding.

It is hard to believe it is over.? I found the whole show is like a "blurr".? It went by so fast.? I was in section 7 and almost eye level with the big set of speaker.? I found the crowd did not seem very loud at all.? How was it in other areas of the metro centre?

Like a blur is right. I couldn't believe it was happening and then it was all over.

really though. When the lights went out and the jungle riff started i couldnt believe it...think my heart skipped 7 beats. when axl screamed "you know where the fuck you are" and he then looked upon us...it was the atleast top 5 most amazing moments of my life. and the later the show got the more i was like "omg this is going to fast slow down!!"
agreed...went by way too fast..

My girlfriend ended up hearing this from someone she works with.  I guess this girl that knows a guy my girlfriend works with ended up talking to Axl for a half an hour...said he was really cool and down to earth!

Axl N' Company Ignite the Metro Centre

Submitted by Jon Careless on 11.21.06 at 2:56pm.
Once 11:50 pm rolled around, I'm sure many of us were convinced he wouldn't show. We've all the heard the horror stories. Even recently, it was reported Guns N' Roses cancelled their show in Portland Maine because they weren't allowed to drink alcohol onstage. I must say, I was worried.

But after all the waiting, the jeering, and the cheers of anticipation, once the first few bars of "Welcome To The Jungle" came through the speakers, the place erupted. For the next two hours, Axl Rose would have every one of us in the palm of his hand.

Through most of 'Welcome to the Jungle,' it was difficult to even hear Axl's voice over the noise of the crowd. The explosions popped at just the right moments, the crackling noise blasting everyones eardrums as Axl bounded frenetically across the stage. The onslaught of the guitars was even greater than expected, since the band chose to have three guitarists on-stage all at once. Robin Finck and Tommy Stinson were in top form, infusing each song with flashy, screaming solos that screamed 1983.

The concert did have a certain nostalgic feeling throughout, as I guess that's warranted being a Guns N' Roses show. During the sonic, 'You Could Be Mine,' a video screen above showed retro drag racing clips set against changing neon backgrounds. The video illuminated the stage completely as Axl screamed the lyrics to the crowd.

A personal highlight for me was "Mr. Brownstone," a song so obvious in its statement on the struggles of heroin addiction, its almost odd the song has such a raucous feel. The live version was even better than I could imagine. Axl, with his trademark howl blowing through the chorus "No, no, now-oh-oh, he won't leave me alone."

But I'm sure many people who attended this show will say their fondest moment came during the classic 'November Rain,' the rock ballad everyone knows the second it starts. The lights went down and the lighters went up, and the grand piano became the focus of everyone's attention. The crowd sung along with every word too, their hands swaying back and forth. The scene was exactly how I pictured it would be.

It appears for right now at least, Axl Rose and company are exactly where they need to be.

Have you noticed that someone must have told Jarmo to keep the focus on the tour and the shows instead of release of CD.
Jarmo have talked to them and playing a dobbel role here..

You can see it on all his post, the current poll, etc, etc..

Its stupid.

I don't think that's what happening at all.  I think that this is a message board regarding "news".  Since the tour and the shows are happening now, that's what is being talked about.  There is no news regarding CD, so we will wait.  When there is news about the release, I'm sure everybody is going to talk about it.  All of the conspiracy theories about Jarmo are ridiculous in my opinion.

This is what I absolutly feel as true, people need to get over the album aspect(cause it will be out), and focus on the fact the band is really out there, givng greqat shows and gaining new fans at each one, and even bringing in the most pessimistic , after they see the shows.

The album will be out people, ya think after all this time and now really hitting this hard it wouldnt?, if you say yes, you dont belong as a fan!

i dont know where this would go, but i thought it was worth noting how well the halifax show was recieved. im drunk right now so bear with me. I heard alot of gnr shit talking around town before the show, people were going saying stuff like "this aught to be good for a laugh" or "yeah right im not going to see axl and his cronies" (thats a direct qoute from my boss), but since the show, i havent heard 1 bad thing about the band. everybody ive heard from, and ive talked to alot of people, absoulty loved it. the only complaints were about the start time.  i think its easy for people to say stuff if they havent seen the new band, well of course its easy, but i would say most of the people saying shit going in, were fucknig silent coming out.

you can only talk shit if youve seen the show. unfortunatly alot of peop;le are talking shit not even seeing the new show/hearing the new songs and its damaging to the band and its reputation.

Canada has become more and more like Europe in terms of culture. We definitely seem more open to accepting new things. Ottawa papers raved about the show. Citizen gave it a great review, and the Sun said it was one of the best shows Ottawa has seen in years. Chart Attack, and Ben Rayner of the Toronto Star, who both HATE Guns N' Roses for not being trendy and constantly bash them (especially Chart Attack) gave the Toronto show decent reviews also.

The band's Canadian dates have been very successful so far and there's a sold out show in Calgary coming up along with a big Edmonton show and the smaller Winnipeg date. I'm hoping all go down great and hopefully we see places like Hamilton, London, Montreal, St. John NL, Regina, and Victoria on the next leg. I know I'm being greedy but hey, they're doing great here :)

I agreee too, I've heard from alot of people who went who really enjoyed the show.? Even my girlfriend, who didn't understand why I was still hanging on to a band that hadn't been around in ten years went to the show was really impressed with Axl and his presence on stage.

...although there was this alcoholic skank who called into the Q104 rant line and bitched because there was no alcohol at the concert and then proceeded to go off on everything about the show.
