Deers are actually overpopulated where i live but i still feel sorry for them sometimes. Wild Boar hunting looks fun though because they are usually a local nuisence and can be dangerous one on one.

Yes.  I'm getting it processed into butterfly chops, burger and steaks.  I'll get a second deer saturday and donate the meat to local venison for the needy programs.

You gotta start hunting moose and caribou.  Those big fuckers are tough to drag out of the woods.  We nabbed a moose a few years ago that was about 950 lbs.  We had to quarter it to get it home.   Sweet buck though.

Not for nothing Randall Flagg, but deer meat is awesome!!  : ok: I feel bad when I eat it (only had it a few times) but it blows cow steak away.. And yeah, Venison with a little red wine, pour a little Italian salad dressing on it while coooking.

I love venison. ?I always make abou 20 pounds of deer jerky to pass put to friends as I have an awesome recipe. ?Venison is so lean and full of protein, I don't know why it hasn't become more mainstream. ?The only down side to venison is that you can't cook it in a foreman grille (in my opinion) as it completely dries it out and removes what little fat is in venison.

This deer died quite humanely.  He was 20 yards away and never felt a thing.  I had perfect bullet placement and he fell right over.  He was dead before I heard the the shot.

Title: Re: I shot the biggest buck of my life today

It's not a car at all. ?It's a John Deere Gator, which is a 6 wheel off road vehicle used to move things around a farm. ?In this particular case, my uncle used it to load my deer so we didn't have to drag it a mile from where I went into the woods.

Look at the pictures of me with the deer, you can clearly see I shot it in some thick covered area.  We drug the deer out about 400 yards to an old logging trail where my uncle picked the deer up.  That particular picture was was taken at the house before we loaded it into my truck to goto the processor.

J/k? : ok:? :peace:

Actually I had a corn feeder with a bear trap below it.? This nice family of deer came in after some chit chat with a few squirrels.? I was sitting in ambush with my chain saw and dull butter knife.? All 6 of the deer came to feed and got caught in the rusty bear trap.? I waited a few days before I acted, just to let them suffer.? I went to town with the chain saw on the fawns and stabbed the mom in the eyes with my dull butter knife before I took her head off with it.? The father had a heart attack at the horror of what I did to his family. That's why he's so neat and pretty looking.

Edit:  I forgot to mention that I did this all at a caged petting zoo in front of a kindergarden class.

Remember that then the next time you're at  McDonalds chomping down a hamburger.  I come from an area which goes hunting crazy every year and I used to not understand why, but I see people actually love the deer meat.  I'm not a big fan of it, but I absolutely love it when it's made into jerky.  And as far as respecting deers........come to my town and try driving home at about 2 am.  It's like a goddamn Frogger game trying to make it home......they're overpopulated and dart across the road like nothing.
But I do agree with the poster who said about punching the deer repeatedly.  I want to make a mockery of my friends one year and just go in the woods with nothing but a bowie knife and a piece of rope.  Then I'll pull a Rambo right out of the tree and procede to choke it down until it submits to my fury.

Oh man they let you hunt in this state go figure.

Just kidding, I was out the first day with my 12 year old his first time. Fun day. I saw some does but I could not get my kid a shot. Long season I will get my freezer full before it is over.

Listen up for those of you that love deer meat, next time you get your deer processed ask for the backstraps to be kept whole. ?They are the 2 tenderloins on the back. Do not get them butterflied or cut, just trimmed and left whole.

Go to the super market and get Adolfs marinade in minutes for meat. It is a powder mix that you just add water to. marinade regardless of what the directions say for 12 to 24 hours. ?

Cook them on a hot grill left whole, use a fresh pepper grinder and good kosher salt ?to sprinkel on during cooking. I use alot of pepper. Also keep juice unlike what package on marinade says and use thats to baste meat. ?Cooking time varies my guess would be 30 minutes about 15 a side, or even longer. Once I think they are about done I cut one half way just to peak inside to see if it is done. I cook them to med just a hint of pink left. ?Let them rest a few minutes and then slice them in about 1" thick slices, but only cut what you eat as you go. DO NOT CUT THE WHOLE THING UP, ONLY WHAT YOUR SERVING YOUR SELF CUT AS YOU NEED or it will dry out. Unlike other dder steaks i have eatin in diffrent forms or recipes, this one the left over peice can easliy be reheated next day and still be moist not dry.

I promise you these will be the best home cooked deer steaks you ever had. 2 whole lions off a decent size deer feeds 6 to 8 plus people easy.

We cook them ever year at new years with about 5lbs of shrimp, we call it our hillbilly surf and turf.

Are you serious, if so I never saw that show, or more so she stole my recipe.?

We have been doing that one for about 8 years now. We used to butterfly the straps into 1" thick slices and pan cook them in a whole concuction of stuff, we alwasy processed our own deer. One year we had about 8 or so to cut up. So me and my cousin when we were 15 or so went in the house tro cook some up while our parents continued to cut the other deer up. We added, a-1, ketchup, worchester, BBQ, lots of raw onions, pepper garlic, salt. and the secret ingredient banana pepper juice from the jar which is basically vinegar that taste like mild or hot peppers. We would make half the batch with the actual mild bannana rings in the suace or the other without but both still had the jusice in it. We made every body taste them, hey it looked like a brown suace with onions and peppers of sorts and tasted great. They all loved it and we luaghed our asses off. So for the next 10 years we made them that way.  It is tough becuase you have to constintely taste it and asjust quanities to make it taste right, since we never measured anything. It had a tangy flavor. but it was good.

Deer realy have no edible fat on them, the fat is really called talc and you do not want to eat that.  Thats why the only way to cook backstraps is in suace cutup or grill and leave whole. Or you get shoe leather

Deer populations are getting bigger each year and they're expanding into our habitats.? You want to be a crusader, sell your home tear it down.? Or did you just mean kill other people besides yourself.

it's not about eating meat
it's about killing a living being for fun. cause in the end, that's what you get out of it: fun.

I don't think deer hunters are bad at all.  The only bad thing is that they are getting the deer running - I had FOUR run out in front of me driving to work last week.  Luckily I didn't hit any of them.  The last very cold winter, they came out of the woods and ate all my bushes and plants.

Besides that, they are beautiful and yummy!  ;D

Yes, you can hunt with a bow.

Humans make up part of the food chain. Hunting done correctly with a conservation program as all states have now leads? to a healthy ecosystem.

ALSO the majority of hunters and fisherman are very in touch with the outdoors and a very respectful of the animals and the habitat. I love animals alive and dead. Seriously most hunters know more about the animals in the woods then most animal lovers that hate hunters.  The majority of hunter stick to the rule of thumb eat what you kill.  The small precentage of trophy hunters that do it for the sport and do not eat there kill do not make up the majority. Just like this board the majority is ok but every now and then you a have few assholes. And the public always remembers the assholes not the good ones. So the hunters get a bad rap.

Title: Re: I shot the biggest buck of my life today

You are no doubt right about that.? I've mentioned it before on this board, but I used to know a man that went bow hunting for deer.? I don't believe for one second that he did it to control the deer population, because he like deer meat, or anything like that.? He did because he enjoyed killing things.? How do I know that?? Well, there are a couple of reasons.? He would get bored waiting for a deer to shoot at (and miss, most of the time!) so he would start shooting squirrels.? What's the point of that?? Then when he hit a squirrel that didn't die right away, he'd run over with his knife and cut its throat to be "humane".? He also loved it if he saw a cat or dog get hit by a car.? If it wasn't dead yet, he'd run over and cut its throat, and then act as though he had done some noble thing.? He was the one of the biggest assholes I've ever known.? Now, I realize that he's most likely not representative of all hunters.? But he's the only hunter I've ever spent any time around.

I wonder, why bow hunt at all?? If you were just hunting because you like deer meat, then why not use the most efficient means necessary to kill it?? If bow hunting is more challenging or sporting or whatever, then obviously you are killing the deer for the fun of it and not the food.

And I'll restate what I said before.? I'm not "against" hunting and I'm not a vegetarian.? But I don't understand what makes a person want to kill an animal.? Clearly, they get something more out of it than meat.? I'm not saying it's evil or wrong, but there is more to it than good food.? ?

Your right there is alot more to it, for me it is also about fun, not in the killing but the freinships and goodtimes it has created over the years. My whole family hunts, my 70 year old granmom hunts still. We have agreat time, the actual killing part I do not think makes any of us feel better. I hate it down right hate it when one does not die right away. It is tough i get a knot in my throat when one does not die right away. I have had to due the throat thing a few times it sucks. But overall I continue to do it becasue i relize it is a neccassary thing. We eat all our meat, we do it legal, and we have a great time, there are guys that hunt all there life and never get a deer. They do it for the good times. Same with us but we also get great food out of it.  My family probally gets about 12 plus deer a year. But we also raise pheasenst and qual and release them to the wild and no we do not hunt them for over 10 years now.  We plant feilds just for the deer and turkeys for them to eat. We spend hundreds of dollars a year helping the wild animals by food or releasing birds. We put up feeders around the pond for the ducks. I think most hunters fit in with my type of family.

I feel the same way as you do on this.? No matter how accurate you are, bow hunting is "stabbing" a deer to death.? You cause internal injuries that cause them to bleed to death.? With a firearm, if the bullet doesn't do it alone, the trauma caused from the bullet certainly will.? My biggest complaint with bow hunting is that anyone can buy a bow and hunt, with no training.? While the same is true with a rifle, it's so much easier to be accurate with a gun - it's the original point and click interface.? The libertarian in me doesn't want to outlaw bow hunting or restrict it, but the humane side sees bow hunting as hurtful and unnecessary.? My cousin has shot a few deer with his bow that "got away" and I know others that have as well.? I'm not a bow hunter, so maybe there's something I'm missing.? I liek to think you can love the animal and enjoy the sport at the same time.? I find firearms season to meet that criteria alright, I'm not sure about bow hunters though.

Randall congrats on getting a large buck! What state are you from?

For those who complain about hunting you all need to go live in rural Ohio. You would be amazed at the amount of deer that get hit by vehicles, and the over population of the White Tail Deer. Hunting is made for a reason and the reason is to control the population. In Ohio the Deer gun season should be expanded because the limit on deer and the harvest is not enough. For anyone that has hit a Deer you know the damage that can be done to a vehicle, check out your counties accident reports you would be amazed at the amount of Deer and car accidents that happen on a given day.
For the hunters that go hunting, majority of them do it because of the closeness to the wildlife, some people even do it because its a family tradition.

Hey genius, what do you think those government agencies do?? Excuse me if I don't rush to the idea of giving governement more power and control while destroying an American tradition.? I fail to see how your burger is morally better than my venison steak.? Though I could argue mine is since it lived a real and happy life in nature and suffered a painless death.? Can the same be said about your last meal?

Let one total your car and maybe you might have a slight change of heart.? I think white-tail deer are beautiful animals.? Hunting allows me a very intimate and close relationship to observe and watch them.?

If you really want to understand hunting, listen to this song: http://home.comcast.net/~gunsnrockmusic/Buckmasters.mp3
this song gets the point across perfectly.

Edit:? corrected link.? I hope some of you listen to it
I dont think the deer think its such an intimate and close relationship to scope them out and kill em, damn.

Being from Newfoundland I've dealt with a bit of criticism based on our seal hunt. ?As Danny pointed out, the majority of the people complaining hate it because they think seals are cute and see brutal images on the news (beating them to death isn't the normal practise). ?And while the pelts are sold for clothing, the meat is eaten, much like a cow. ?They hate the way the seals are killed, but no one gives a shit about the cows because they're ugly. ?We have a tradition here of hunting moose too, and no one cares about that.

If he just shot it for shits and giggles, then yeah, complain, but it's just ridiculous to complain because he shot it. ?Jesus, if you wanna get technical, think of all the trees you killed to build your house. ?They were brutally butchered. ?Doesn't that argument seem silly?

He killed an animal with a rifle (oh the skill involved!) then came on a GNR message board to gloat as if what he'd done required skill and as if we should be impressed by his primate behaviour

Congratualtions you can weild a rifle!

But he didnt do it because he likes to kill things! No, he had an excuse, what was it?

Controlling the animal population?

No?

Whats the other classic that gets rolled out in these instances?

For food? Yeah thats always a good one to use, a real classic, i'll remember that one.

I assume in hick county there are no shops?

People that want to eat go to a shop. People that want to kill go to the forest, or a dark alley

You might not be able to see the difference, but trust me, its there

This post is for all you animal activist/? hipocrites. For all you people who eat meat. For all you people that? wear products that came from animals. For all you people that use buety and heatlh products that were tested on animals.

Hey just to give an update to all you animal activist.? I shot and killed 2 does this Saturday. Yum Yum.? I shot both of them right in the lungs.? One shot each.? I gutted them, then? hanged them for a day and then yesterday I skun them out( ripped there skin off) . Cut them up in little pieces for my feezer. Freezer is full.? Now we will have some 100% natural healthy meat to eat all year.

And this post is 100% true, just the facts.

With the nice long season we have this year I have time to get a few more.? You can call me names, you can protest, you can cry but have and I will kill deer every year for food first, second fun and good times with my family and freinds.

I shot a Doe Saturday too.? She was close enough for me to try a neck shot, and boy did I pull it off.? I hit right in the tissue and arteries.? I never saw an exit wound so big.? Hail to the power of the 30-06!

Izzy,

Humans are a part of the food chain.

Each state in the US has its own conseravtion program for wildlife, they control the hunting and they also control the bag limits.

Hunters are a neccassary part of the ecosystem. The alternative has been coyotes / fishers / bob cats and other predators. This has been done in my state where I live becuase the deer population is out of control in some areas, mainly where there are alot of humans, which also means family dogs and cats or farm chickens and other animals have been getting killed by these presators.

I have seen kill floors were the burger you eat has been killed and let me tell you, us hunters are more humane in what we do when we shoot animals. . Remember the store bought meat is and alwasy was just meat. It never had a life. Raised for one purpose. Alot of them sick or mistreated.

Where I'm at we have to use shotguns. I use a 12 guage 3" magnums Federal sabot slug. Mine were about 30 yards away when I shot them.  They ran only 15 yards and dropped. Running dead. both lung shots on mine.

I may be a cunt, I won't argue that point,

That would be wise

although I think I do have a really good nice side as well.

Tell it to the deer

Alt

hough I don't spend alot of time thinking about my dick, maybe you're projecting your inadequicies on me?

If its not a small dick why else would you hunt deer and brag about it on a GNR forum? Insanity?

Quote
Anyway, no I don't enjoy harming animals.

No?

Quote
I shot the biggest buck of my life today

Your words? On a GNR message board? Sounds like gloating to me. Sounds like pride to me. Sounds like enjoyment from the result to me.

But wait, your ashamed by this act nature forced you to do

Right?

Your ashamed?

Quote
As someone stated earlier, I get a lump in my throat everytime I take a deer.

From behind?

In all seriousness, you get a lump in ur throat from killing a deer u plan to eat?  :hihi:

At least have the courage of your convictions, kill it, brag about it - and dont apolagise

Quote
But unless you're a vegan

Maybe I am?

Quote
(and even then you'd still be killing animals that would harm your crops - grain harvesters don't just cut the wheat you know)

What curious logic. You kill for fun but thats the same as killing animals existing soley as a source of food?

Quote
you're a fucking hypocrite

How so? When have i been killing animals for fun?

Quote
that lives in a delusional world

Guilty on that one.

I do imagine i'm in a world of decent, honest and intelligent people

Honestly if thats not delusional i cant imagine what is

behind a thin curtain.

Us liberal nujobs dont need curtains, we have ivory towers known for their excellent heat storage, generated by tidal power

Quote
My deer hunting methods are alot more humane than the animal factories that you get your chicken, pork and beef from.

Oh thats okay then!

Honestly, why defend what you do?

Have the guts, have the balls to say 'yes, i killed that deer, i did it because i wanted to, and now i will eat it and i have no moral qualms about it and i came here to gloat'

You dont even believe in what you do

Quote
How's that history degree working genius?

Rather nicely actually, history is as much about expression as it is about the past. I can show people like you up as primitive and savage without even breaking a sweat

Nice combacks Izzy.

Nah, I love dogs.  I only hunt things I can eat, when I know I'll eat them.  I don't condone senseless killing.  I'm glad the majority of you live in reality and even if you don't hunt yourself, understand the reasons others do it and don't condemn the act.  To the 3 or 4 other people, enjoy your tofu and cotton clothing that you grew in a wooden barrel inside you exclusively wooden home taken from dead limber.

It's a shame when I see that Cornell cause nothing good comes from their death.? Someone now owes thousands in repairs and the deer suffer until the injuries kill them, and the accident has made the meat useless.

In reply to SLC, real tasteful.? You can disagree with me, but to wish personal harm?? That is lower than I thought you'd go.? Of course you'll say you were joking.? I can joke too you know.? Exactly - I would rather see a hunter shoot them and use the meat and save someone from car damages and possibly personal injuries.

Hunting out of neccessity to feed your family or the poor I get...eat what you kill....what I find so hard to swallow is the 'bragging' rights that seem to go along with this. "I never saw an exit wound so big" or how good you felt...I feel fear when I hear someone say that...it is like bragging about how good it felt to kill something....I grew up with a father that hunted everything from moose and caribou to grouse and pheasant, we never went hungry nor did alot of members of our family but never once, from my father or any other person did I hear how proud they were or how good it felt. It was just something to do to help feed your family, a chore...not a passage of 'manhood' or a sport.

A lot of the hypocrisy goes right over his head. On one hand it's " humane" and "for food." But at the same time the name of the thread is "I shot the biggest buck of my life today". Which is nothing more than bragging about one's latest conquest.

Personally, I don't see the harm in him saying its for food AND that he enjoys it.  Hunting is legal, it has a season (just like football, baseball etc...) it is considered by some to be a sport.  There is an element of competition involved (same with fishing).  Whether a hunter likes the thrill of the kill and the food is a bonus or the other way around, I don't think its fair to say it has to be one or the other.  Me personally, I don't think I could ever pull the trigger on an animal like that, but its a persons choice to do so if they please.  Just as those who are totally against hunting can speak out against it and say whatever they want about those who hunt.

Thats the great thing about this country.  people have the choice to do things even if others disagree with that choice - that is unless you are gay and want to get married or you get pregnant and choose to have an abortion  ;)

Me neither, but he is trying to sell it as "just hunting for food" and not for enjoyment, while the title clearly says "enjoyment."

Just say you like to shoot animals for fun/sport as well as food, don't try to bullshit everybody about it.

That's not true at all.  Obviously I enjoy it and acknowledge it or I wouldn't even bother.  I reference the meat because it shows that the kill isn't solely for sport.
