I don't know anything about his set tonight.  But I've read at other shows he plays all the songs you'd expect.  18 and Life, I Remember You, Youth Gone Wild, Slave to the Grind, and a few new songs.

Papa Roach as they approach bring tidings of good will; they boast. Above all else I do decree I anticipate the Rose of glee. I do dislike the Papa Roach, the singer needs a vocal coach. But as long as they do not encroach the premiere band I need not reproach.

I am pleased to see that my brief rhyming has succeeded; I try my best because your mother is often relieved by it. My sense of humor may be wacky, but yours my friend is just plain daffy! I love you too, my brethren Gunner; in many more years we shall become great lovers.

In response to this thread, let me say I am excited. The Guns are back, for this I am most enlightened!

I think I might take mine in for the Sunday show because I have VIP tix. ?There is no policy on either of my tickets for NJ and MSG, I don't think the band cares so much anymore, I think it has more to do with what security feels like enforcing that night.

So, no more updates tonight? Was Randall the only board member we had there?

Did they not play better? They usually play it by now.

Unusual since its been a staple on the setlist so far. Maybe they're sving it for later in the show?

VIP for NJ just means front GA, they have the arena split down the middle for this show for reasons I still can't understand, I can only assume they think we are animals here and can't behave on a full GA floor :hihi:

If I do get any pics they will be posted of course

I just love Axl's tone in "Ain't It Fun"... ?His voice seems to seethe with stifled rage and sadness...

Whereas on "Down on the Farm", he sounds very playful, like he's having a lot of fun with the song...

As far as "Hair of the Dog", I think GNR does it very well, but I still prefer Nazareth's original.

Axl was obviously telling the truth when he said more songs would be added as the tour went on. This is great!

My inner critic is laughing at the fact that we're getting excited over old, old songs being played; but my inner GN'R fan is ecstatic because he knows what a major thing this represents for the band. The inner GN'R critic is beating the shit out of the critic.

Well, the fact that they are bringing out songs such as Down on the Farm from what I have gathered was only played once before really adds to the fact that this isn't the nostalgia tour some people thought it was and that Axl is serious about the people he is playing with-

This will end up being the biggest set ever for the 2001-06 era, if not one of the biggest ever.

If they play this in WV... jeezus... you cats at MSG... it's gonna be epic.
I wouldn't be surprised if a certain never heard song on a certain picture is played at MSG.

Hope they play a similar set in Chicago!!

It's so great that one night that features two previously unplayed songs changes all the pessimism to optimism. ?It's only two songs, both old mind you, but I agree that this might be the beginning of a slow change in the setlist from the old boring list to something new and unpredictable. ?As long as they play these songs in Detroit later this month, I'm happy.

Ive got some kick ass pictures to upload for you guys, tommorow ill have even more and probably some videos. We almost got kicked out for this shit so be thankful!  :P JK.

But Damn Bach played a ton of songs, it was great he really knows how to put on a show!  : ok:

Papa Roach was decent, not really my style but they were good.

Axl didn't take a long time to get on, they bursted out with WTTJ of course and it was kick ass. I seriously sang along to EVERY song at the concert. Robin had about a 3 or 4 minute solo that kicked the inland invasion's solo's ass.  The band did quite a few little jams and sounded great. The blues was awesome and I was one of the only people who knew all the words.

Better was one of the best live versions ive heard all year and the band was seriously on fire! You could tell Axl was enjoying himself because the crowd was loving him and he couldn't help but grin.

Right before Richard's solo I yelled "FUCK YEAH YOU'RE THE MAN RICH!" and threw up the devil horns and he smiled and threw the devil horns back at me!  ;D

I can't remember which song but Tommy was on the edge of the stage and I pointed at him and I was like "TOMMY!!!" and he also smiled and pointed back!  ;D

When Axl introduced bumblefoot he was like "I'd like to introduce..." and I yelled bumblefoot and Axl pointed at me and was like "Yeah!" It was the highlight of my night!  : ok:

Right before he played Down on the farm axl was like "Well this next song could be a disaster since I haven't played it in about 14 years... this is DOWN ON THE FARM!" It was totally cool. "You're Crazy" sounded great, Used to Love her was also kick ass and Rocket Queen, being one of my favorite songs was awesome  : ok:

The coolest part of the night was the confetti falling down during paradise city. I even have a handful and it's sitting in front of me next to my poster and ticket. Great fucking concert. Best concert i've ever been to. Oh yeah and if the dude who was beside me who sang all the words with me reads this(He told me his name was Rock_Star on mygnr) PM me dude! You were kick ass!!

THE BLUES!! Ill be uploading some more of these tommorow!!  : ok:

Down on the Farm is the only TSI done live.

Hair of the Dog was done once, I believe, at the GAK show for Rip Magazine in 1990 with Skid Row & Metallica.

Then of course, Attitude was a UYI-tour staple, after Izzy left & Gilby joined, and they dropped Dust N' Bones & 14 Years in favor of Wild Horses-instrumental & Attitude.

Since I Don't Have You was done as a brief (first few lines or so) intro to SCOM during the mid-to-latter 1993 shows on the UYI-tour.

Buick MacKane was done instrumentally as an outro to Double Talkin' Jive I believe on some of the mid-to-latter 1993 UYI tour shows.

You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory was done live by Tommy solo, and possibly Duff? If they count, but they were by themselves. It wasn't a GN'R show...

this is crazy, what a sudden change in the setlists and everything, wonder what those fucking whingers have to say now

not that i counted myself as someone unhappy with the setlist, but right now i'm on the other side of the world (Australia), not even in the same country or timezone that these shows are being held in, not even a vague idea of a timeline in which they would come down here, not even rumours from promoters or anything and already i am fucking counting down the days until these bastards hit our shores

yeah i realise i cant be counting down the days because i don't kno wwhat day it is but meh dont ruin the moment lol

i hope everybody had a good time, and hopefully more people who actually have the opportunity to travel to these shows will persue their option and go and have a blast

Maybe we'll give them a few days or something, the concert was only just today (or about a day ago anyway, considering time differences or whatever)

I'm sure in time they will share something with us, if they got it =]
Sound fair?

this is crazy, what a sudden change in the setlists and everything, wonder what those fucking whingers have to say now

not that i counted myself as someone unhappy with the setlist, but right now i'm on the other side of the world (Australia), not even in the same country or timezone that these shows are being held in, not even a vague idea of a timeline in which they would come down here, not even rumours from promoters or anything and already i am fucking counting down the days until these bastards hit our shores

yeah i realise i cant be counting down the days because i don't kno wwhat day it is but meh dont ruin the moment lol

i hope everybody had a good time, and hopefully more people who actually have the opportunity to travel to these shows will persue their option and go and have a blast

If you ask the whiners, they'll tell you they were the sole reason for the changes. What ego's they have...

Sole reason? No. But it's another one of those very convenient coincedences.

Thanks for proving my point.  ::)

No need to say whiners won or lost or whatever. It doesn't really matter. What matters is that people in Huntington had a hell of a show last night and an awesome time! Let's talk about the show!

Coma was only played a handful of times - and Chicago was one of those times.  Perhaps Axl will break out something special for Chi-Town this time around, too.

Perfect Crime to open the show - FTW!

Me putting some shades of grey to a black&white statement does not prove your point. Give the hate some rest, you don't come of as any better than the ones you call whiners with an attitude like that.

All I stated was a fact, and you backed it up for me by chipping in.

Coma was only played a handful of times - and Chicago was one of those times. Perhaps Axl will break out something special for Chi-Town this time around, too.

Perfect Crime to open the show - FTW!

I think that'd be great, but personally I don't see Perfect Crime opening the show. It isn't 1991-92. I think they're gonna stick with Jungle as the opener. Personally, it ain't broke. I've lots of great alternate openers from the band, and Perfect Crime is probably my #2, but I still think after all of these years that Jungle is the best opener, just like Paradise City is still the perfect closer.

I agree. CD comes from the same family as Right Next Door To Hell & Perfect Crime. It'd work as an opening song.

Still would rather have Jungle tho, and if not that, Crime.

I think it would equally work as the second song in the set i.e.

Jungle
Chinese Democracy

Personally I prefer fast openers

All I stated was a fact, and you backed it up for me by chipping in.

You stated an opinion. Facts don't need backup, that's why they're called facts. Now end this.

Take your own advice.

You may not agree with the fact, but that doesn't make it any less of a fact.

He could have done that four years ago.

No.

They've been saying since Inland Invasion that once the NA tour started, they'd gradually change up the setlist.

In the kroq radio interview in august, regarding the setlist axl said something to the effect that there would be some nightly variation depending on the vibe of the crowd and other circumstances and how the band feels.

They'll play more new songs when the crowd at the show want them.

Thanks for the reports.
What I enjoy in a review is little tidbits and how the show goes and the crowd react than what songs they play.

CD opening would be cool for us hardcore fans, cause we know it.

But jungle just sends everyone into that frenzy (even casual fans) that an unknown (for now at least) wouldn't be able to acheive.

I might get bashed to hell here but I've been thinking for the longest time Sympathy for the Devil would be a cool opener. I know it's not going to happen and before people think it... I'm not complaining

Jungle is the perfect opener.. You wait a long time for axl to come out, and all of a sudden it gets dark and you hear that "dun dah dah dah" it just puts the crowd in a frenzy... its posssibly the best intro for a song..

SHOW REVIEW:

Meet the friendlier, more tranquil Axl Rose: the version who says thank you a lot, high-fives fans in the audience, jokes around with band members onstage, dances, smiles ? he even starts his shows on time.?

It wasn't the version concertgoers to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena may have expected to meet during Friday night's epic, 5-and-1/2 hour concert featuring headliners Guns N' Roses and high-energy opening acts Papa Roach and Sebastian Bach, but they left satisfied and happily exhausted nonetheless.

Fortunately, and a bit surprisingly, this version of the fiery frontman emerged from the darkness of the stage before an enthralled crowd of roughly 6,500 on this seventh night of the "Chinese Democracy" tour.? ?

Though much has been made of the late start times on this tour ? with Rose rarely starting previous shows before midnight ? he was prompt during his Huntington visit, beginning the show shortly after 11 p.m.

The enigmatic vocalist seemed happy to be onstage and worked hard to please the audience.

"I know it's clich? to ask this, but how are you all doin'?," he asked during a brief break in the band's set. "It looks like you're having a good time, which is helping us out. So keep that spirit going."

Rose charmed a captivated audience as he snake-danced, whirled, and swayed throughout the band's 21-song, 2-hour-and-45-minute, continuous set that drew heavy portions of 20-year-old favorites from the classic "Appetite for Destruction" album, a couple cuts from the "Use Your Illusion" era, and a four-song selection from the ridiculously long-delayed "Chinese Democracy," an album that has been in production for nine years at an estimated 15 million dollars.?

Cartoonish ex-Skid Row lead screamer Sebastian Bach kicked off the night with a one-hour set featuring heavily his former band's material, with a handful of new songs mixed in for good measure.? Dressed in tight, black leather pants, a matching vest, and white cowboy boots, Bach swung his microphone overhead as he head-banged to cuts like "Slave to the Grind," "18 and Life," and "Youth Gone Wild."?

Stopping briefly to introduce each song, Bach peppered the audience with a barrage of F-bombs and quirky one-liners.? The audience reacted well to the blonde madman's act and he left the stage to a loud hand.

Perhaps the least enviable slot on the bill belonged to nu-rockers Papa Roach.? The audience seemed to take a wait-and-see approach with the band, and it wasn't until the band's third song, "She Loves Me Not," from 2002's "lovehatetragedy" album, that they broke through.? The band worked through their catalog of rock hits, including "Getting Away with Murder" and "Last Resort," as vocalist Jacoby Shaddix led audience members in a Bono-esque sing-a-long to new tracks like "?To Be Loved" and "Time Is Running Out."

Of course, the night was reserved for Axl and his seven-man band.

"Do you know where you are?" Rose screamed the famous opening line from Guns' incendiary 1987 hit "Welcome to the Jungle," kickstarting this last portion of the show.

The crowd answered with an anticipatory roar as new guitarist Robin Finck echoed the? opening riff throughout the arena and a single spotlight careened off Rose's jet-black glasses and matching silk shirt.? ?

Finck, the longest-incumbent guitarist in the new Guns N' Roses fold and who swung his ax previously in Nine Inch Nails, sported a scraggly beard and untamed mane that reminded you of Jimmy Page's brief, bearded moment during the Zoso album era.

In addition to Finck, other Guns members are long-time keyboardist Dizzy Reed, who joined the band before the "Use Your Illusion" double albums in 1992; bassist Tommy Stinson, formerly of the Replacements; fusion guitarist and composer Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal; keyboardist Chris Pitman; and former Love Spit Love members Richard Fortus on guitar and Frank Ferrer on drums, the latter of whom is filling in on this tour for Bryan "Brain" Mantia on who is currently spending time with his wife and their newborn daughter.

A bit heavier now and old enough to be the dysfunctional dad to many younger Guns N' Roses fans in attendance Friday, Rose's marathon of fist-pumping heavy rock-n-roll delighted many nostalgia-tripping 30-somethings and their kids ? many of whom must have come into the show wondering what they had missed out on some 15 years ago when Rose was revered as the biggest, most controversial rock star in the world.

The audience maintained a high energy level throughout the show as the band tore through a set allowing room to showcase their wide-ranging musical abilities.? They might not have been Duff, Izzy, Slash, and Matt backing up Axl Friday night, but to their credit this is a very competent unit assembled to crank out Guns' tunes with a similar tenacity.

Rose fed off the crowd's raucousness and showed many patrons in attendance why he is still considered a captivating frontman. His aging voice cracked and strained to hit high notes in songs like "My Michelle" and "Sweet Child O' Mine," but his 44-year-old frame showed no signs of fatigue as he sprinted from side-to-side of the stage to shake hands with fans, exciting those especially in the first few rows.

The show ended with the fitting "Paradise City," another hit from the 1987 "Appetite for Destruction" album.? That album alone has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.

It was an appropriate ending to a night that so many never envisioned happening.? This was, after all, only the second time Guns N' Roses has performed in West Virginia.? Their first time was as an opening act for Aerosmith in Wheeling, WV, in 1988.

WOWWWWWWWW!!! ?Went to the show..I'll give a full review when I wake up. ?Tried to drive home, couldn't do it so I pulled over at a rest stop and slept to sober up for a couple hours and just got back to Louisville. ?Axl was HAPPY, laughing the entire time saying the crowd was really into it, which was getting him into it (exact words). ?I think he treated us with a LOOONG setlist because of the crowd reaction, even though I was the only one singing the new songs. ?I had the white collar button up, jeans, boots, with black GN'R shirt on if anyone saw me. ?I was going nuts the entire night, he was spot on, the band was spot on, and there was a lot of interaction between members. ?Axl said "Down on the Farm" was the band's SURPRISE idea for the night and he would give it shot, so he played it and it sounded top notch. ?I'll give you more later....including pictures....

The audience maintained a high energy level throughout the show as the band tore through a set allowing room to showcase their wide-ranging musical abilities.

The show ended with the fitting "Paradise City," another hit from the 1987 "Appetite for Destruction" album.  That album alone has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.

It was an appropriate ending to a night that so many never envisioned happening.  This was, after all, only the second time Guns N' Roses has performed in West Virginia.  Their first time was as an opening act for Aerosmith in Wheeling, WV, in 1988.

The only thing i notice is some somewhat diss on axls vocals. But i bet they dont even go by how he used to sing live. Back in the 90's he was a bit iffy on the vocals as well at times. Just I think people go by the vocals they hear on the album to determine his vocal range. Axl is more attempting to "sing" then he used to do in the 90's some of his vocals in the 90's were completey dead no tone at all. just completely bottomed out.

Axl sounds much better on tour than 2002, which makes this tour better.  Also, the band have so much energy now, and it just seems so much better.

Yeah, back in the day it was more hit or miss when it came to his vocals. Sometimes he sounded amazing, many times he sounded like shit. I think he is more consistent overall now, sounding pretty damned good day in and day out even though the "power" in his voice may not be what it was. When he was "on" back in the day, (freddy mercury, paris, etc), there was nothing better.

The band IS A BAND. ?Everyone is enjoying each others company and playing off of each others vibes. ?Being a part of that show last night showed me this is the best lineup Axl could have came up with. ?Not just saying that because whoever Axl puts in the band is who we have to live with, I mean I do miss the one and only Buckethead, but this band is beyond GREAT. ?They nailed every song, just show Axl some love and he'll give it back witha ?killer setlist like we had last night. ?Perfect show, perfect set, great performance, a lot of chicks dancing on me a lot alcohol being consumed, everything you need for a killer GN'R show.

yeah when he was in.He obviously sang louder back then but he was less trying to "sing" if u know what i mean. in the 80's he was usually good. I think in the 90's a lot of times his voice would blow out, Sweet Child O Mine In Tokyo was the worst ive ever heard him...No tone at all. In Paris France he was really good though. But its live rock every singer is like that. especially a singer like Axl who has to belt out and range all around with his voice.

Axl was great in 02'. ?I don't see why people fuss over his voice so much, so what it was a little more high pitch, you could barely even notice anyway. ?He actually held screams MUCH longer in 02', but now that the old rasp is back his voice is in better shape. ?Just can't hold the screams like he did in 02'.

Hey thanks!  Sometimes.  I mostly freelance for beer money.  It's hard to make a living in rock journalism these days unless you're already established.  I was just excited to get free tickets to check out one of my fave rock bands.  Tried to be objective where I could.  ;)

I thought so too. 02 and 06 he defanetly hits higher notes then the 90's. 02 he hit a few off notes but when ur singing like that its gonna be more obvious. singing the way he did in the early 90's its almost impossible to hit offnotes when ur singing the way he was.

TSI is not a good album

Can?t wait for Civil War

TSI is a great album, with Aint it Fun being the greatest song on it.

Nope, most of the songs doesn?t fit GNR...An EP would have been better instead of an whole album

I don't think the accent is meant to insult anyone. I hear americans love a brit accent.

agreed. and that clear voice is the proof that the said damage from smoking, drinking and the overuse of voice were just temporary in his case and is gone.

I was there, front row. I had a black toboggan on and a 1991 Use Your Illusion tour shirt if anyone saw me. And, um, I was holding that girl who everone was pissed off at. Anyway...

Sabastian Bach was awesome. Crowd was into him the whole time. He had the girl standing two people down from me throw her hat to him. He gave it back.

Papa Roach needed a couple songs to win over the crowd. Their lead singer came over and was singing right in front of the rail. I got to shake hands with him. They won me over.

GNR came on at 11:21 (I had my cell phone out and just happened to look right as the lights went out). The place was on fire from start to finish, which is especially impressive considering this was about a 6 hour show. Axl seemed to be having a good time, enjoying the crowd (even at one point even jokingly telling us to 'calm down...' something to that effect). All through the night he was making comments about the crowd, cracking jokes, etc.

I haven't heard any of the downloads from the current tour, but the new songs sound a lot heavier than they do on the demos (and different from the 2002 live bootlegs). The crowd was into all of them. A ton of people knew the words.

Before Down On The Farm, Axl said, "Ok, what do you guys want to do now? .... That one? This has the potential to be a disaster. I haven't sang this song in 15 years." I forgot who asked, but yes, he did sing it with a British accent.

After the show was over, my friend and I went around back and got to talking to one of the security guards. He said they were all informed before the show that Axl was refusing to go on if a chiropractor wasn't brought to the arena and to be prepared for the worst. Good thing they found one!

All in all, it was the best concert I've ever been to. The band sounded great, Axl sounded great, GNR stayed on stage for about 2 hours, 40 minutes. Incredible night.

I forgot to add that after Down On The Farm, Axl said something about Tommy Stinson playing something on his bass that reminded him (Axl) of DOTF, so the band all decided they should start doing that song.

In the review that someone posted earlier, it said there were 6500 people there. I'm not so sure about that. The arena holds 9000 and from what I could see, it looked to be 90% full or better. I'd guess closer to 8000.

Updated: I just received word that my local newspaper, The Herald-Dispatch, will pick up my review for Sunday morning's print edition.? It's also online right now at http://www.hdonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061104/NEWS01/61104007.? A photo gallery is online also (as someone posted earlier).

Perhaps the least enviable slot on the bill belonged to nu-rockers Papa Roach.  The audience seemed to take a wait-and-see approach with the band, and it wasn't until the band's third song, "She Loves Me Not," from 2002's "lovehatetragedy" album, that they broke through.

The crowd answered with an anticipatory roar as new guitarist Robin Finck echoed the  opening riff throughout the arena and a single spotlight careened off Rose's jet-black glasses and matching silk shirt.

The audience maintained a high energy level throughout the show as the band tore through a set allowing room to showcase their wide-ranging musical abilities.

Updated: I just received word that my local newspaper, The Herald-Dispatch, will pick up my review for Sunday morning's print edition.  It's also online right now at http://www.hdonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061104/NEWS01/61104007.  A photo gallery is online also (as someone posted earlier).

SHOW REVIEW:

Meet the friendlier, more tranquil Axl Rose: the version who says thank you a lot, high-fives fans in the audience, jokes around with band members onstage, dances, smiles ? he even starts his shows on time.

Fortunately, and a bit surprisingly, this version of the fiery frontman emerged from the darkness of the stage before an enthralled crowd of roughly 6,500 on this seventh night of the "Chinese Democracy" tour.

Rose charmed a captivated audience as he snake-danced, whirled, and swayed throughout the band's 21-song, 2-hour-and-45-minute, continuous set that drew heavy portions of 20-year-old favorites from the classic "Appetite for Destruction" album, a couple cuts from the "Use Your Illusion" era, and a four-song selection from the ridiculously long-delayed "Chinese Democracy," an album that has been in production for nine years at an estimated 15 million dollars.

Cartoonish ex-Skid Row lead screamer Sebastian Bach kicked off the night with a one-hour set featuring heavily his former band's material, with a handful of new songs mixed in for good measure.  Dressed in tight, black leather pants, a matching vest, and white cowboy boots, Bach swung his microphone overhead as he head-banged to cuts like "Slave to the Grind," "18 and Life," and "Youth Gone Wild."

The show last night was incredible!
We had a great spot in the floor second row from the front, it was amazing.
One part I'll never forget was when the audience in the stands were stomping their feet making a huge roar, Axl was all smiles and said "I hear a storm a comin".

Are you people ever happy.  He plays an extremely rare song, and some of you bitch about the way he sings it.  When Del wrote about fans who bitch but never goto the shows, remember he was talking about you.  I was there and it was amazing. : ok:

There is a different element when the song is played live.  It's completely different, and it sounded great.  I never liked the song that much until last night.  It sounded great, and I'm guessing he played it because it was kind of a "country" atmosphere.

Am I the only one who Hates Down On A Farm? I Despise Axl's Clean Vocals The Song would be so Much Better If he Didn't try to insult Us Europeans by mocking our accent and Using His Barbwire MeatGrinder Rasp.

As opposed to almost any British singer who sounds American when they sing?  Get over it; it's Axl's ode to British Punk Rock.

Cheers,

Andrew

I always thought it'd be cool for someone to do it that rockin', and do it with a put on Southern/Country-boy accent, as kind of like, American-nizing the song.

Either way, it's a rockin' song, with a terrific speed.

Unfortunately, Axl is from Indiana by way of LA. So he has no southern country boy accent.

.....both axl and izzy have country elements....even in their song writing..... if you can't notice it, you may not be as well informed to notice it.... songs with izzy/axl country-ish stuff in 'em and sounding : dust n' bones, bad apples, SCOM, you ain't the first, ....just about any of the last 4 songs from LIES...      come on now.. you don' thave to be southern to have the country influence in you... not that he's country-style, but there is an influence, no matter how much you try to deny it, it's there.

Here's an email I just received, complaining about my Guns concert review.   :hihi:    :smoking:

"I don't know where you were 15 years ago, but Axl Rose has never been considered the biggest rock star in the business by anyone that matters.  As long as Mick Jagger is breathing, I think he has that crown safely tucked away.  To compare Axl Rose to Mick Jagger would be laughable at best."

Thought you all would enjoy this...

Funny but sorry to say Axl was the biggest rock star in the early 90's...Thats like saying in 69 "Mic Jagger will never be the biggest rock star compared to Elvis.

Elvis is the biggest rock star of all time, not Mick Jagger.

I mean, even if you don't like 'ole E, Elvis is still worshipped in some countries, and his longevity since his death in 1977, is unmatched. He's bigger dead, than some are alive.
