Title: Song Intros by Axl at Shows?
Post by: dk on June 03, 2006, 02:11:10 AM
I just found a vcr tape thats been lost for 8 years (no joke), the tape is Paris 92 from the PPV.?? :peace: Man the goose pumps, I forgot how powerful this concert was.? Anyway, I noticed how Axl used to have a lot of lead ins, not necessarily rants or Sail Away, (tho it'd be nice) before some of the songs like "How about a little bit of Arnold, You Could Be Mine!!" or "... or anybody else that chooses to fuck with you, this is called Live and Let Die"

Has Axl introduced the names of any new songs or any songs for that matter at the shows recently?? I noticed he did say something before IRS at Rio but not the song name.? I just think his intros are cool.   : ok:

Well, he said something about I.R.S. being about Tax Evasion at Rio.

This thread reminds me of something Axl said just before November Rain in Rio in a winey geeky voice

"Why isn't axl ranting...axl should rant"

I believe Axl was taking the piss out of people like the original poster in this topic.

Yea, hes had his spiels inbetween songs and stuff. Nothing has really been too noteworthy so far, except for him telling us that Better is a "Robin song".

Maybe he grew out of that phase and is actually just doing what he does best (making music)!

Maybe he is still trying to find his sea legs so to speak. Its only been a few concerts. He has been out for quite a while even counting the abortive 2002 tour.

This thread is not about why Axl isnt ranting. The guy is just asking what kinds of things is Axl saying to introduce the songs.

Exactly.? Thank you.? I am not talking about rants but lead in to songs, especially the new ones.?

So it seems like Axl is just playing the songs one after another at the shows.? It also makes sense why many people reviewing the shows don't include the name of the new songs on the setlist.

Actually looking back, I don't think Axl has mentioned anything, like the meaning of the songs, when it was written, or even the song title for the Blues, CD or Madagascar since 2002.? ?

At RIR5, which was like a month or so ago, he introduced "Patience" by saying the following...

"So uh... how many people, how many of you didn't think we'd be here today? Everybody raises there hand, I see.. I see how you motherfuckers are. I see. But, you've shown a virtue. You are very virtues, you've shown and exhibited some patience."

And then they go into the song, a cool set-up IMO : ok:

A little side note.. I absolutely LOVE the guitar solo after the lyrics "Because I couldn't take it." Axl does a weird "ahhhh" thing and then the guitar part comes in.. FUCKIN AWESOME :peace:

A lot of great intros in the GNR live catalogue.

My favourite is the one played in early 1993 as an intro to November Rain. I dont know its name, if it does have a name, and who created it, but its wonderful. Search for ''Hartford 1993'' to listen to it.

Dizzy's piano intro to LALD at Rock In Rio-Lisbon was beautiful too.

My fav of all time is Sail Away Sweet Sister/Bad Time... I love both songs! (SASS is my fav Queen tune) the intro fits really well into SCOM... my favourite version of that intro is from Paris '92: Axl smoke a cigarette, smiled' n' then sang as maniac hahaha is great!

Also love when they sang a few lines from Pink Floyd's Mother before Paradise City....

And right there is proof, if proof were needed, that Axl is the finest frontman of his generation - confidence, style and charisma fairly ooze from him as he has the audience in the palm of his hand.

(P.S. Thanks for the link, it's been a long while since I saw that.   : ok: )

I agree with you and also the one Axl played in Japan 93

I don't know if guys mean musical intros to songs or Axl's spoken introductions of songs..

Anyway in terms of him introducing songs, i liked his introduction of "Out Ta Get Me", i think it was at Rock Am Ring 2006.

He uses his game show host / mocking voice saying "this is another oldie but goodie from the guns and roses classic collection" or something like that.
