Title: Howard Stern mentions the hammerstein show.
Post by: johnnythunders24 on May 12, 2006, 05:45:02 PM
Stern mentions the show is tonight and that he was thinking about going, but decided not to since its only Axl in the band. Robin said that one of the best shows she ever went to was a Guns show.

It's being mentioned everywhere!
It was mentioned on Metro on Tuesday. I was gonna post it, but then I didn't think it was relevant, since it was only about 5 or 6 lines long.

Yeah Howard was off today.  I heard he did mention Axl needing an oxygen room this week.  I could see him saying this.  Robin once said that Sweet Child O' Mine was her favorite song EVER.  they had a panel of everyone on the show a few years ago.  Howard's favorite song was "Purple Rain".  Unfortunately a lot of people share the sentiment about it being ONLY Axl.  Hopefully the band can prove all the naysayers wrong.

Howard Stern is a fucking idiot, who cares what he says or thinks..

He ceased to be relevant a long time ago, now no one even hears his ramblings..

I believe they can definitely prove them wrong but they gotta release the album first.  Then people wont have as much reason to say that stuff.

Not that Howard needs any defending but he still has a huge fanbase. ?Sirius subscriptions have gone through the roof since he joined on. ?Went from 600,000 subscribers to over 3 million. ?I'd say he's still quite relevant.

Oh muffin... did he insult you precious Axl?  :'(

He is right though. It is only Axl in GN'R and that turns ALOT of people off.

It was Thursday.

However, on Howard 100, I think they were replaying the Thursday show this afternoon.

Over 4 million, actually.? 3.5 million all on Howards back (or nearly so).

And that number climbs every day.

Tough to say he's not relevant when every newspaper and media outlet watches, and reports on, his every move and word.

:)

On topic, Artie was talking about maybe hitting the show tonight.

Probably be LOTS of celebs in the audience.

I hear him everyday, best heard radio in a long time, or ever.
Hell Stern gave Axl some credit when he heard the IRS leak.

Agree..Sirius has really revitalized him.

Funniest stuff of all time.

I'm hoping ONE of the staffers makes the show(s) and has a report on Monday morning on my ride in.  Sorta make the ride to my 1/2 day of work before the show a LITTLE less crazy.

I was hoping someone from the Stern show would go, too.  But I can't think of who would be interested.  Stern is sort of a social leppar, Artie does'nt like anything "new", Fred would'nt go...Robin maybe?

Howards right. I wouldn't just go to see Axl either. Without the original guys it's just not Guns n Roses. All that music that we love from 17 years ago is just being recreated by all different members. Watching them in Concert now would be like going to watch a Tribute Band.

Artie said he might go.  He said he's a GnR fan.

And there's people like Richard (who I could DEFINITELY see going), Will, JD...and those guys (which, if I remember, is who went to the '02 gig...the "junior" type staffers).

Really...I must of missed hearing Artie say that.  Guess he's got alot of free time now, huh?

That would be cool.

And to the newbie who doesn't want to see the new band...I saw them 3 times in "the old days" and once in '02...trust me...the new band is better.

It was a very quick "mumble"...you know how he is.

I actually rewound my starmate to make sure he said what I think he said.  Something like "yeah, maybe I'll check that out".

I don't know about Artie going. ?Remember last week,(or the week before) when they played "Robin's Bunghole"(to the tune of WTTJ, for those who haven't heard) and he asked who made it, ?Howard said "It's Axl Rose, that's what he's doing now" ?and Artie replied, "No, that's too good to be Axl Rose"

Doesn't sound like a huge fan. ?"..........it's my favorite place, smell like meat and vegetables when she sits on my face......." ?great parody though.

Come on...that's just a joke.  I love Axl and I would have made that same joke.

I am one of the biggest howard stern fans there are  but when he starts talking about anything music  is when I ignore him.  He is a trend follower and dismisses anything that is percieved "uncool". He has a lot of shitty bands on his show  and acts like they are the best thing ever.  If Axl were to show up to his studio  unexpectedly  Howard would lick Axl's balls  and tell him how great he is.  When it comes to music  just ignore howard he doesn't know what he is talking about.   Howard is still the best entertainer out there in my opinion  and I will always be a fan.

Not to get too off-topic, but isnt that assuming that had Howard not gone to Sirius, they wouldve signed up few more than zero subscribers?

Man as much I love Howard, I realize that he's not responsioble for Sirius having 4 Million Listeners. A survey was conducted that showed only 8 percent of Howards Audience followed him over to Sirius. So that would only be about a Million Listeners.

Sure, fair enough.

so let's break it down:

They had about 500k listeners, in 2 years, on the service, when Howard announced his deal.

I'll go you one better and assume they'd double that rate, or give them an additional 1 million subs without howard (and that's a stretch, but Im willing to be generous..but the Sirius numbers were showing they'd probably only double their subs to a TOTAL of 1 million without howard...I'll give you the extra 500k), over the 17 months between Howard's announcement, and the announcement of the 4 million number.

That gets them 1.5 million.

That means 2.5 million subs on his back, alone.? At $13 a month, he's covered the cost of his deal, AND is putting 150 million per year in Sirius's coffers.? If you use Sirius' own sub projections, it's even more pronounced.? Sirius has also been sending out surveys to subs, and new subs, to gauge programming interest.? I've "heard" that Howard's penetration is something to the tune of 60% to 70%.?

Nothing to sneeze at.

Also, to address dizzy's survey...first off, I'm not sure who conducted? the one you're referring to.? Secondly, there was a published survey, not long ago (Howard talked about it on air) that said 15% had made the switch, with an additional 15% saying they'd strongly consider coming on board within the next 6 to 12 months.? They "spun" it a bit differently ("ONLY 30% of Stern listeners willing to move to Sirius"), but those are pretty healthy numbers.? And, of course, there's the "margin of error" in any survey.

And now, we're WAY off topic for the GnR Board.? If you want, we can take it to PM's or move over to the Jungle....
