Title: What if?
Post by: Crashdiet on March 27, 2006, 01:54:52 PM
If axl decided he no longer wanted to play the old material would you still go see them play?

I would, but I think they'd cut their fanbase down substantially.

I'd pay good money to watch Axl Rose perform the full Milli Vanelli catalog... but that's just me... : ok:

I certainly respect your opinion, CrashDiet.

But it?s pretty simple *acting like a wise-ass*

The reason I go to an Iron Maiden concert  --- To hear a mix of old and new.
The reason I go to a The Darkness concert --- To hear a mix of old and new.
The reason I go to a Guns n Roses concert --- To hear a mix of old and new.

I wouldn't go THAT far....

But I'd still go see them, even if they were playing just CD material. ?Hell, right now I might even be MORE inclined to go see them if all their material was off of CD (which, obviously, hasn't been released), if only for curiosity's sake.

I suppose sometimes Comedy and Tragedy can go hand in hand....

But Milli Vanilli makes my ears bleed, figuratively speaking of course.? I don't care WHO was singing it...I'd not be in the arena (or bar, for that matter).? I like my Comedy with a bit less Tragedy (Shakespeare excluded, of course).

I'd pay more just to hear new songs.

At any cost. If they can dedicate the shows to CD, so much the better.
But no to the concert of cover songs.

I would pay double if they only played the new songs. Waited so long for those tracks, can't wait to hear them!  : ok:

it'd be a bit sad not to hear any of the old stuff...........but I would definitely still see Axl & Co. play.....even if it was all just new material.......

I definatley want to hear the old stuff, but with a heavy mixture of CD.  I would also like to see the band do more illusion-era songs.  I want to hear Double-Talking Jive and Estranged again. : ok:

you can't really say a darkness concert has old and new, they only have 2 albums and one is not that old at all so they don't have old and new stuff to play
and with iron maiden their new stuff isn't that much different from the old its all the same style.  And id go see gnr if its new, old or both i don't care its jsut a band id love to see live, like iron maiden i didn't care that on their early days tour they only played their old stuff, i did miss a few songs but meh i lived and it was f'ing amazing to see

The reason I go to a The Darkness concert ---  To hear them play that silly-ass yodeling song. . .  and that's it.

At this point in time, I could care less if they do any old material. I'm interested in the new stuff this band has to offer. While I'll always be a HUGE fan of all the old stuff, it's time for the new...

I wouldn't the reason you like this band so much is what they accomplished back in the day, some of the best albums of all time, Im just excited as the next guy to hear cd but i want to hear all of the classics too.

I just wanna hear them mix it up a bit. The old band would play different setlists every night, I wanna hear this new band do that too.

I'd actually prefer it if the new band left the old classics well alone

either way i'd pay whatever to see them live again

It's all about what they choose to present, however, you're paying to see them in the year 2006..I hope Axl feels similarly

Haha I think I feel the same way, being that I've never seen gnr live, at this point I would probably pay to see them just play Silkworms!

So of course I would see them do only songs from CD, I would enjoy it no matter what they played. Just being in their presence would be awesome.

I think I might prefer songs from CD actually if I saw them live. If I was watching the new band play old tunes think I'd feel like they were trying to immitate the old band and be something they weren't. I don't think I could get into it as much as the new stuff.  I could see the fist couple old songs being cool but it would definately wear off for me.

Maybe seeing them perform CD in it's entirety would be cool.

i would rather them not even play the old stuff... i'd pay to watch them play the blues 15 times and love every minute of it  :hihi:

Many confused minds out there, but here's the truth:

Axl quote: I have no intension to deny you something that you like!

That means a mix folks, and that's the way it should be!

Well, I attended the 2002 concert twice at Boston and then the next night at Hartford and I could just tell the majority of the people there weren't open minded enough to go see them for just the new songs...I get into several arguements with people who claim Axl is washed up, Guns are no more, etc. and I just battle back everytime...I guess if you really really love them you'll be willing to take what you can get (like us who sign up for message boards and actually answer this question haha), but unfortunately I'd be willing to bet the majority of the fanbase (or majority of the 16 million Appetite CD's sold) would pretty much attend the concert for the nostalgic sound of the past

I woulda seen them twice during 2002 but couldn't as the show I had tix to in Philly was cancelled and the second show was cancelled

20006, if they played the US, the only place I would go see them is NYC.  If not I have no interest as I wouldn't trust Axl to show up.  At least if it's NYC, there are plenty of bars that are open til 5am

I would definitly pay to see them live even if they didnt play there old stuff which is unlikely becasue they did in the 2002 tour... but i would pay anything up to 120 American to see them.... seing that i havent seen them play live before : ok:
