Title: moderation = naziism (+ AxlRoseVen defense)
Post by: nonlinear on February 28, 2006, 03:45:10 PM
I can understand the frustration the mods must have with all of the recent activity and noobs, but I think that closing AxlRoseVen's thread (which was harmless) and saying "So yeah Ven, go fuck yourself" is completely uncalled for.

AxlRoseVen is a nice guy and a big fan of GNR.  He is from south america and it's difficult for him to write in english.  but he's not out to hurt anyone, he makes good points if you think about his posts, and he's actually kinda entertaining.

I hate to say it but this moderation is approaching naziism!!!

And your accusastions are approaching absurdity.

Psshhhhh.

Facists! Hippocrites! Bastards!

Heard it all before.

Oh, by the way, I have no idea what incidient you're refering to. Maybe I agree with you...

But, still. Naziism; ungrounded and yesterdays news.  :)

Skeba: I'm just fucking lost for words with this one.
Pandora: You don't have to find special words, you know. Just tell him to go fuck himself. So yeah Ven, go fuck yourself.

I think the thread was totally legitimate.  It didn't need to be closed just cause you guys don't like the way ARV writes.....  :'( :'( :'(

Well, he starts similar threads all the time.

Instead of using the ones we already have, he likes to start new ones.

Pandora rules!

And, if you were looking for some kind of answer or validation, you pretty much gave yourself one with the first sentance of your first post.

Maybe if he looks around a bit more, thinks before he speaks, then in the end...Whoops, descended into song lyrics there. What was I saying...Oh yes. Maybe he should see what is already out there before starting a new thread. Throw his couple of cents into the already existing...You get it.

I prolly wouldn't go as far as tell someone to go fuck him/herself over just one thread. Nor did I remember to lock the thread as it seems, but I _do_ think that the thread was totally pointless. We've discussed Axl's appearence about a million times (well, I haven't but others have). I don't see why some people think it's so important. It's like people are actually thinking that "yeah the music's good on the record, but now that it's being sung in clothes like that, it's suddenly lame.." It's like some people think that clothes, his hair, his eyebrows or whatever-the-hell-shallow-thing-that-has-no-influence-on-the-song-what-so-ever is fucking cryptonite to the songs and it just makes it all unbearable and impossible to listen.

I think it's because they're tired of his posts. They're all pretty much the same... They're not easy to read either so I guess some don't even bother trying to understand what he's actually trying to say.

No offense Nambis, but it shows that you haven't been here long. Ven is a retard and makes absolutely no sense to anyone. He's become the laughing stock of the whole board. Why he hasn't been banned yet is still a mystery to me, but as long as he's here and I'm a mod, I will feel it's my duty to not let him clutter up the board with his nonsense. And If I have to be called a nazi for it (or any other name), then so be it  :)

no offense taken.

I used to laugh at Ven, too.  When I first came here I was mean to him, called him a crack head, and asked if he was Steven Adler.  I totally know what his posts are like, and I realize that he's the laughing stock of the whole forum.  but that doesn't make it right.  I've come to like ven and his posts, and I think people are just too hard on him.  I think he's more valuable to this forum than 90% of the people who have been on here lately.

Ven is a retard and makes absolutely no sense to anyone. He's become the laughing stock of the whole board.

My brother Kevin thinks God lives under his bed. At least that's what I heard him say one night. He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and I stopped outside his closed door to listen. "Are you there, God?" he said. "Where are you? Oh, I see. Under the bed." I giggled softly and tiptoed off to my own room. Kevin's unique perspectives are often a source of amusement. But that night something else lingered long after the humor. I realized for the first time the very different world Kevin lives in.

Kevin was born 30 years ago, mentally disabled as a result of difficulties during labor. Apart from his size (6-foot-2), there are few ways in which he is an adult. He reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a 7-year-old, and he always will. He will probably always believe that God lives under his bed, that Santa Claus is the one who fills the space under our tree every Christmas, and that airplanes stay up in the sky because angels carry them.

I remember wondering if Kevin realizes he is different. Is he ever dissatisfied with his monotonous life? Up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk our cocker spaniel, return to eat his favorite macaroni-and-cheese for dinner, and later to bed. The only variation in the entire scheme is laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine like a mother with her newborn child.

Kevin does not seem dissatisfied. He lopes out to the bus every morning at 7:05, eager for a day of simple work. He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather our dirty laundry for his next day's laundry chores. And Saturdays--oh, the bliss of Saturdays! That's the day my Dad takes Kevin to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes land, and speculate loudly on the destination of each passenger inside. "That one's goin' to Chi-car-go!" Kevin shouts as he claps his hands. His anticipation is so great he can hardly sleep on Friday nights.

And so goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips. He doesn't know what it means to be discontent. His life is simple. He will never know the entanglements of wealth or power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be. His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working. When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it. He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, nor does he leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax.

Kevin is not obsessed with his work or the work of others. His heart is pure. He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologize instead of argue. Free from pride and unconcerned with appearances, Kevin is not afraid to cry when he is hurt, angry or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God. Not confined by intellectual reasoning, he approaches his faith as a child. Kevin seems to know God--to really be friends with Him in a way that is difficult for an "educated" person to grasp. God seems like his closest companion.

In my moments of doubt and frustrations, I envy the security Kevin has in his simple faith. It is then that I am most willing to admit that he has some divine knowledge that rises above my mortal questions.

It is then I realize that perhaps Kevin is not the one with the handicap--I am. My obligations, my fear, my pride, my circumstances--they all become disabilities when I don't trust them to God's care. Who knows if Kevin comprehends things I can never learn? After all, he has spent his whole life in that kind of innocence, praying after dark and soaking up the goodness and love of God. And one day, when the mysteries of heaven are opened, and we are all amazed at how close God really is to our hearts, I may realize that God heard the simple prayers of a boy who believed that God lived under his bed. Kevin won't be surprised at all!

With much love and very best wishes,

I suspect you are supposed to be enlightened as to the use of the term Retard.  But as someone who has long worked with mentally retarded adults and acted as an advocate for them, I can tell you that they are generally very happy people who couldn't care less if you refer to them or anyone else as retarded.  And yes, I use the term exactly the way you did, just not at work.

Oh puh-leaze Z, stop your PC bullshit. It doesn't belong here. I'm sure you're clever enough to realize I'm not talking about actually handicapped people. It's called an "expression". See, I have a brother who's gay. What am I supposed to think of all the morons who keep using the word "gay" on this board? Well, that's the point : I don't think anything of it, because I know they don't use it in the same sense (even though it gets on my nerves at times). You should stop taking things so seriously...

I have no idea waht "PC bullshit" is, so I'm at a loss for "what doesn't belong here".   It is possible that I do no belong here.  I left years ago and probably should have not come back.

My "different" way of viewing life always brought such feedback in the past therefore making it futile to keep posting here.

Regardless...........

You all missed the point.  It was not about the term retard itself but more about arrogance.

You calling somebody a retard gives you the false impression that you may be better or smarter than another.

When actually the "retard" may find life easier and more fullfilling than the "non-retards".

If you don't get it after my explanation, you're not going to.

I have noticed that the mods do not have to follow the rules around here.  I guess that was the point of this thread.

Oh really?

You don't think that maybe it's possible for a mod to lose his/her temper once in a while too after being called everything from a nazi to an idiot?

Do you kow how "fun" it is to try to keep the board "clean" by merging threads that all talk about the same thing only to find five more similar threads started by people who are too lazy to use the search or look on page two for the old thread?

Do you know what it's like to keep merging and moving threads, and then get called a nazi by somebody who can't find his "original" thread just because it was merged with an existing one?

jarmo, I didn't call you a nazi for moving my thread

I said you guys moderate like nazis, because AxlRoseVen started a thread ans next thing you know there's moderators in there telling him to go fuck himself and closing his thread.

The thread might have been a bit strange and hard to understand, but at least it wasn't about gnronline.com or slash rejoining the band or how many cds CD will be.

I'm sure you could have held back the mean comments and just let the thread die like it surely would have.  unless you wanted to keep things clear for the next 'slash rejouining group' thread?

peace out

I have had bad experiences with retarded people. Once, I was biking and one ran into me while driving a car. Another time one physically attacked me for no reason.

They should not be given carte-blanche because they may not know better.

Again, I see what you are saing.? I'm definately looking at it all in a different way.? Different views of situations from different angles always help everybody to see the big picture.? Thanks jarmo.

Do you know what it's like to keep merging and moving threads, and then get called a nazi by somebody who can't find his "original" thread just because it was merged with an existing one?

Ditto above.? Everybody is very excited about the recent activity.? Those of us who have always connected so deeply with Axl's magic (I love what Brian May said)......just want to be heard.? Many love to start threads.? I even started one and didn't realize that it should have gone somewhere else.

I get the frustration now.

jarmo, I was wondering why you are so grumpy all the time since I returned to your board.? Now I understand.? I've always had the utmost respect for you.? I hope that for your sake you you adjust to this frustration before this board really opens up when CD is released.

While I'm typing this I just remembered how Misfit was and how I always loved his harsh lashes.? The cracked me up.? I'll just sit back and learn the personalities of the nu-mods and refrain from challenging them if that's not "the thing" around here now.

I work with a bunch of racist people and hear comments every day.? I've learned that it is just best to keep quiet with my views which are opposite of theirs.? If I comment or express my views it's a barage of incoming verbal attacks like white on rice.

I'm glad I posted it then.

How other people view her is not important.  Those people can't see the beauty in her that you see.  Your sister is probably not plagued by the average fears, self-doubts and judgments that most of us carry.

Makes you wonder if people with such "disabilities" are on this planet to show us all our "disabilities".

I'm not.

On certain days I might get a bit annoyed after coming home, logging in, doing some "cleaning" and then just find out that there's people who really don't give a fuck about what you ask of them (use the search, don't post requests, don't post links, don't start new threads with the same topics etc.).

Then when I ban them, they get upset!? ::)

Also, when you see people who've been here for ages completely disregard our rules, I start wondering what they're thinking....

If you think I'm just happy and smiling all the time, you're wrong. I have some bad days too. Sorry for having to burst your bubble.? :hihi:

jarmo, I was wondering why you are so grumpy all the time since I returned to your board.? Now I understand.? I've always had the utmost respect for you.? I hope that for your sake you you adjust to this frustration before this board really opens up when CD is released.

I have no idea waht "PC bullshit" is, so I'm at a loss for "what doesn't belong here".

In case you are serious, PC means "politically correct".

It's not necessarily that I feel smarter than Ven. Hell, I don't know him personnally. I just feel that if, for some reason, you are unable to make yourself clearly understood on a message board, and everytime you post something, it gives everyone the stong impression that you're under the influence of some hard drug, then maybe you should refrain from posting, because you're basically being a disturbance on the board. Otherwise, it's the mods' duty to stop that person, because no one wants a board full of nonsense.

It might seem like "go fuck yourself" was a little harsh, but I have to tell you we tried all means of normal communication with Ven before, and none of them worked. Which led me to such extreme stuff.

I hope my post was clear enough, because I have a terrible headache right now, and I'm not sure I'm making any sense

Oh, okay.? No I am not concerned about being PC unless I have to when acting in a professional manner.?

Yes, that was crystal clear.? So in the end I've learned about how the board works these days.

Thank you? :)
