Title: one in a million
Post by: im rickjames bitch on October 31, 2005, 07:23:49 PM
this is a great song. i dont support axls homophobic and racist veiws but its a very catchy song and axl's voice sounds perfect on it. i just make sure i dont sing along with the the lines like immagrants and fagets. use to love her is very good to, too bad it wasnt written about killing a girl freind and it might have been a big hit.

i think they're both excellent tracks, i especially like the accoustic set from cbgb's....used to love her was amazing from that gig. i only have to watch it once and the tune stays in my head for a month.

mmm I liked "I used to love her" when I heard Scott Weiland performing it with velvet revolver. Concerning with One in A Million, it has a great sound , its not one of my favorite either, By the way I heard that Axl impossed the lyrics, cause the guys didnt really want those in it.  And like a posible imigrant honestly I dont care what he thinks about us, even when I like his other songs.

One In A Million is one of my favorite GN'R songs.  I really don't care about the immigants and faggots stuff...maybe if I was an immigrant or faggot it would offend me, but probably not.  I think most of the lyrics are pretty cool, and the riff is awesome.  Its a great song.

the song is very good--musically.
In terms of content, it is obviously controversial.  As Axl states, "I'm just a small town white boy..."....which doesn't dissmiss his other lyrics.

It's actually "funny" when listening to Axl "defend" that song--he has a few different arguments/views.  In an interview, he even proposes that he would like to tour w/ LL Cool jay or N.W.A. (this is bk in '91).  He further states that it may be problamatic bc the fans may mingle and fight (i.e. different ends of the spectrums--white and black...)...it seems like he wants to demonstrate that he is not racist.  I'm not sure.  But what did Axl expect when he released that song...obvioulsy it didn't go over too well w/ the public.

IMO, I like the song, and it's a shame that he used 3 derogotory words (but what about "back off bitch"...that's not exactly nice either!), yet he has freedom of speech.  I think as a fan who is intelligent I can see where he was coming from (but not agree w/ it), but I worry it supports some other ppl's views about thier issues w/ ppl who are different (of different sexual orientation/race/background...).  I can see these disturbed views sometimes on this very site....and it is very unappealing.

Well, it's not like the song ever got any radio airplay in the 1st place.

Also, rap acts use the lyrics niggars all the time in their songs and faggots call each other faggotts all  the time so I don't see the big deal

As for the line about immigrants, ever go to gas station or 7-11 and need an interpreter because they guy taking your money said something, that sounded like english, but couldn't be sure

Agree with  One in a million being a great song musically.
Yes some of the lyrics may not have been axls best choice.

And i was shocked by the lyrics when i first heard them, but now i listen to the whole song.

Not just the certain lines of the songs that are controversal.

One of my favourite GN'R songs, also one of the songs that got me into listening GN'R. The "police and niggers" line can be wieved as racist and I probably would be offended by it if I would be black. But I couldn't agree more with the "immigrants and faggots" part. A great song that is often overlooked cause some "inappropriate" lyrics.

What's wrong with making fun of gays? They are the root of many problems.

As far as I'm concerned, Axl can say what he wants. The song is based on real life events.

One In A Million is a great song.
I don't know why anyone feels the need to state their opinions of various groups of people or their opinions of Axl singing such n' such about various groups of people whenever discussing this song..
if everyone went through their record/cd/whatever collections & weeded out all the songs containing lyrics that somebody somewhere might find offensive,I'm guessing we'd probably all be listening to alot of instrumentals.
