Title: Hybrid Amps
Post by: sg4eva on April 19, 2005, 09:11:40 AM
What does everyone think of Hybrid Amps?

They're half solid-state and half tube, and I was wondering if anyone here had ever played one?

I have a Marshall AVT 150h and I absolutely love it, 4-Channels, built in effects, absolutely brilliant, especially since I got a really good deal on it.

If i have money to buy anything I want, I'd pick a 100% tube amp and just plug analog effect pedals on it

Exactly. Why go for a hybrid amp when u can get a tube?

Price.  Thats why.  I'm of the mind that tone is 90% in your fingers.  If you can't afford the best, play the cheap shit until you can.

Hybrid amps are good for practicing but I've never played one that sounds as good as a tube amp when cranked loud enough to play with a band. There's some depth and complexity that tube amps have that cannot be replicated by anything else yet.
