Title: Thoughts and Views on "Oh My God"
Post by: hyperionmax2003 on March 18, 2005, 04:59:10 PM
What are your views  on "Oh My God' from the End of Days soundtrack?  Personally, when I first listened to it, I thought it was some gay techno shit.  But now, after hearing it a couple more times, I love the song.  Hated It or Loved It?

I actually quite like it, parts of it are a bit heavy and it sounds like Nine Inch Nails but it is good to see GNR progress.

Mate, I only made the comment in response to your shocking thread you started on how you claim to have given up on the band! Then you followed it up with a completley normal post which makes you sound like any other normal fan! Most the posts you put are good reads but that thread which I see has been removed was just fucking terriable.

I kinda hate it, but I've only heard it twice.

There are so many songs I've hated one two three four times that I ended up loving eventually.

Extremely unorthodox for a GnR song, but I love the song anyway  :peace:

GN'R shouldn't be trying to sound like NIN.  GN'R shouldn't be trying to progress into sounding like NIN, they should sound like Guns N' Fucking Roses, the greatest band of all time.  Why should a great band progress into sounding like some shitty industrial band?  Bands should never progress into what is the new trendy thing.  The great rock bands are the ones that don't try to change with the times (Aerosmith, AC/DC, Sabbath, Motorhead)...Oh My God was as much a GN'R song as My World.  Great bands play what they want to play, they don't play what the main stream thinks is cool at the time.

I love this song. Axl's vocals rule and the song has so much energy, probably the most agressive rock tune GNR, in any form, has done since the AFD days.

I like the song. The lyrics are very good. However, I don't like the production that much.
The live performance they did at RIR3 of OMG was great, imo.

So many people don't seem to like it, but I love it. I think the main thing I like about it is that it's a real rocker. Don't get me wrong, GnR does a ballad as good(no, make that better) than anyone, but the thing I've always loved about GnR was their ability to make a kick-ass song that really fits my personality. It's that "fuck you" attitude that reaches me most. This song definately has that. Turn it up, it sounds even better.

in my opinion oh my god is an awesome track and it really shows that axl can still write some music and lives up to huge expectations even without slash izzy and duff great track though definitly one of my favorites from the new band

I remember not likeing it at first, but then i got used to it. now i think its cool. A pretty ordinary effort for a so called comeback after 5 or whatever years though. Hopefully the next comeback( weather it be a song or the album) needs to be something more special.

I have never seen the movie and didn't care. When I found out Axl had a song on the soundtrack I immediately bought it. I have to admit it is not my favorite song, but it is good. I thought it would be enough to hold me over until the new album came out....I was wrong... :'(

Still, good song~

I hated it. It sounded like 100% corporate metal, and the vocals were too machine-enhanced. I would like to hear a song that would sound very similar live and recorded, and I think Oh My God would be very different if played live.

They did play it live, it was lacking.

I have been giving Oh My God a revisit lately, and I must say that I like it a lot more than I did when it was released.  I actually hated the song when it was put out, but I actually like Axl's vocals a lot.  With the exception of the end of the song however, I still think the lyrics are pretty poor.  I am also still not a fan of the last guitar solo.

This definitely seems to be the 'forgotten' GNR song.  I hope it makes a return to the live set, I always thought it sounded 100 times better live the few times it was played.

It growed on me since buying the EOD soundtrack. At first I was completely caught ungarded, it was such a departure for GN'R considering the sound of the Illusions albums.

But with time I've learned to appreciate it, paying attention to all bits here and there.

Definitely a song I play if I'm really angry!

Love the ending of it (better then the mistake one in Rio where the band stops before Axl, though the impact of his voice on the last sentence is great!).

i like it very much

That's probably because this song actually is a demo. In 2001, they have played a "new" version from the song, and lets see whats happening in 2012!!

Definitely one of my favourite GN'R songs ever, it's just so different and something out of GN'Rs' usual comfort zone. This showed Axls' new vision for the band going into the 2000's, and I think it's a bold and strong statement which hold it's own.  :)

I think this song embodies the Nu era of GN'R the best, pure Nu-Metal.  ;D

Great lyrics, great chorus, Axl said something along the lines that the released version was a "demo" and I can see why.  The production/mix needed some work.  But the songwriting was there.  Would love to hear a beefed up version with more/heavier guitars, better mixed vocals, and better solo(s).  Hopefully the reworked version he mentioned sees a release someday.  Would be awesome to hear it live again

Also want to add that this song needs to be added to the setlist...

I would probably piss myself if this was played at any of the 7 shows I plan to attend so far. As cool as it is to hear the likes of Estranged and Civil War, I want to hear this song more than any. Could you just imagine Frank starting with that drum pattern, then Chris hitting those spooky synths at the start. And then Ron coming in with that high note, played by Buckethead at Rio 2001.

Would be so amazing.
