 A petition has been launched to get late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Dimebag was gunned down by a deranged fan on December 8, 2004 while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame "honors the legendary performers, producers, songwriters, disc jockeys and others who have made rock and roll the force in our culture that it is," according to the organization's official description. Dimebag was obviously legendary, and certainly helped shape the culture and the future of music. While the definition of the term "rock & roll" is somewhat ambiguous, the Hall does have a heavy metal category. Inductees are announced annually during a December ceremony.

Isn't there a period of time that must elapse between their first release and their induction into the hall?  Either 15 or 25 years, I think?

What happened to him was tragic, but lets slow down.  The Sex Pistols arent even in there yet; realistically, hell never be inducted. 

Then again, the rock and roll hall of fame is worthless anyway.

I didnt make this petition up..But yes i belive its 25 years together and because of the idiot that shot him 25 years is impossible and this man definetly deserved to be in it

agree with D too.  The dude never rocked my world. I know nothing about him except for his corny name & was in a band I hardly explored. I thought my friends were talking about the dude selling blunts on the corner.  didn't they make a wah wah after him?

I have nothing against Dimebag, he was a good musician, but he should get there simply because of his music, not the fact that his life was tragically ended.

Prince never rocked my world, does that mean he doesn't deserve to be in the Rn'R hall of fame? Dime was a genius on the guitar and deserves this honor.

hey dude....  I never said he wasn't good or that he didn't deserve. I can't comment cuzz I really don't know about him too much. If I came off harsh, sorry cuzz I'm having a shitty day.  I just agree to just slow down on this.... in fact I held myself off on reading how & why he got shot only so my own emotions don't make the decisions for me on his music ability as being stated "legend".

I think the point of this is kinda that he probaly wouldnt have been inducted in for a couple of years yet or until pantera reunited, But because of his death he wont be around when the 25 year opportunity comes

i mean emotions run high and he was an innovative great guitarist but dying tragically doesnt make you an exception to the rules.

As much as Dime means to me,because of his tunes....I would rather see him get it,without some petition..

I Do love Pantera , and I Do Love Dimebag But I cant Sign this,  Because The Philosiphy of Pantera As A Band Was always be  against The Mainstream. HE doesnt need a Hall of Shit to be remembered. He will be remembered In his Monster beautiful guitar PLaying in his records, side Project etc 
He ALWAYS had the  recognition from friends ,fans and family!
I think Pantera's fans are one of the most "Loyal" fans in music scene so we dont need that , another story would be if he were alive NOW , then i would sign.  :yes:

First of all, that petition is useless. Second of all, Pantera is metal and they are too great to be put in the RnR hall of fame.

If there were a metal hall of fame, he would have been put in it even before his death, of course!
