Title: The most exciting new guitarist
Post by: Fretzo on November 29, 2004, 10:20:23 AM
I will always be disappointed that Chinese Democracy doesn't feature Slash or Izzy but I'm beginning to come around about the new guitarists.

Robin - In NIN he played a very industrial sound which was created by Trent Reznor. If he brought some of that into GNR as a backround sound (not lead) it could make the tracks standout instead of sounding like the old GNR.

Buckethead - I know that he left but I haven't heard of his stuff being removed or rerecorded so I'll talk about him. I think that he would add a Van Halen sound to GNR which could be cool for loud riffs but any finger tapping solos would make GNR sound like a minor league Van Halen which isn't good.

Richard - The NYC hippster who's part of the scene that thinks that no one could possibly be cooler than Johnny Thunders and Richard Hell. This could make for some very cool sloppy sounding songs. He is the guitarist who I am most excited to hear on Chinese democracy.

Which new guitarist are you most excited about hearing?

I?d say Robin the cock, coz virtuoso-BH?s gone.

But essentially, it's a fusion of three of them.

Yeah, I look forward to hear Buckethead, too.

Of the guitarists in GNR at the mo or over the last few years the only one i view in a favourable light is Axl.

For me, Richard Fortus? he is the only new GN'R guitarist who can be considered as a great guitarist. IMO he is the best of the 3 and the only one who is able to have a major impact on people. He has everything: the talent, the feeling, the stage presence and the look. The only "Rock n' Roll" guitarist in the new-GN'R.
Robin Finck? I'm really not into industrial you know... :-X.
Buckethead? No comment, probably the biggest mistake in GN'R history.

My dream would be to hear Richard Fortus make ALL the guitar solos on the album. He has also the best guitar sound of the 3.

I like Robin the most. Richard is indeed very good, but his vibrato is sometimes a bit too much. But that's just a matter of taste. I'm happy with Robin and Richard. We'll see who the new guitarst gonna be.

Im intrested to see how the mix of the three guitarist will sound, of the three main guitarist who worked on the album thought I prefer Fink and Fortus,  Fink has been with axl along time and I really like his solos and fortus, is balls out rocking, and I hope he takes over some of those solos bucket use to do

WAtching Fortus on stage I have to go with him. He fits with the band the best and looks like he could handle Bucketheads parts live. Finck brings a nice touch of originality to the band giving them a unique sound, but Fortus almost reminds me of Izzy a little bit.

What criteria did you use to judge that one?

I listened to that solo a bunch of times trying to figure out what the fuss is about and I've come to the conlcusion that it's the most overrated solo ever. I bet it's supposed to represent something "epic, filled with emotion, etc".

Yeah, Buckethead is alright, bring him back but as long as he stops acting like a 9 year old kid at a Halloween party.

Buckethead was great. He did so many little things on stage; if you weren't watching him all the time, you might miss them. He was awesome, i'll miss him.

For some reason I would just like it IF Bhead/Finck/Fortus trio would continue. But Head is out...Maybe Nigel Tufnel could replace him ?  :hihi:

Although I don't think he'd fit into GNR, Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme would rock to see live... Check out the album Pornographitti and you'll see what I mean...

I'd have to say Robin is my most exciting new guitarist. Since we've seen him more than the others in the new line-up.

I'll admit, that when I saw this line-up for the fisrt time in Rio 2001, I was kinda disappointed and uncertain, especially in regards to Finck and Buckethead. I was like wtf is Axl doing. But that was my immaturity. I changed my point of view when I saw them in Vegas(12.29) for New Years. Everyone blew me away and I was convinced. Buckethead was always a mystery to me. Not a bad thing nor good thing. But mystery does lean more to an curious side which is good for me.

For Tobias (really liked him), Stinson, Fortus, and Brain, I've always been excited about their additions to this band.  : ok:

 :peace:
