Title: Jarmo, why dont you advertise on the site?
Post by: GnRNightrain on November 22, 2004, 10:48:17 AM
Im not sure how many hits you get per day, but Im guessing its a decent amount.  Especially since you have so many members.  Just curious?  You could probably at least advertise music related type stuff????  Im not sure how many hits you need for companies to invest advertising into your site?

I greately appreciate teh J-dude for NOT advertising on this site.
Banners, popups and whathaveyas are annoying as hell and usually steal quite a lot from the site's credibility and outlook.
But yeah, there'd be decent cash there to be had i guess.
But don't suggest stuff like this!!!!HE might get tempted..

Many huge banner free sites seem to cover expenses/earn cash via selling site-related  tshirts and junk like that. Has something like that been done here?If so, any success?
I'd much rather buy a random t-shirt than suffer from ads.

I never started the site to make money, it was never the idea. Maybe I could've been making money on the site by now if I had..... Who knows.

I did spend money on the hosting, but that's not an issue anymore and I find ads a bit annoying. Sometimes you wonder if the sites are there to provide information or to sell stuff.? :nervous:

Yeah, did that in 2002 but I didn't make any money on it. Didn't sell enough t-shirts I guess.

That's one future possibility. I like t-shirts myself. ;)

I bought one!  For the '02 tour!  Still have it...it's a favorite "sleep" and/or "work" shirt of mine.  Still in pretty good shape, too!

Bring back the T-shirts!!!

The problem with Cafepress (which was used in 2002) is that they only do white or grey t-shirts...

Used_Illusions only wears black.  ;D

Those Fools!T-shirts need to be black!
Well, ok white is pretty wearable too :D

An army of small HTGTH robots that could do my bidding would be even cooler, though.
Specially if they came with tiny&leathal ?HTGTH laser rifles.*hint hint*
Hopefully Cafepress has them in black. I'd hate to have an army of dull, WHITE robots. That would be just gay.

White and grey are not too bad. It would fit the colours of the website.

So the colors people want are: black (many people), white (a few), grey (a few), pink (used illusions).

I want a black t-shirt or a grey one with red writing its got to be red writing you just cant have anything other then red writing it would look wrong in green or yellow i suppose you could do blue but red would be better. and we could have our nicknames on the back like football players then each shirt would be personalised

That is the kind of response I would have expected from Dizzy or Tommy....

Who knows, maybe somebody will start rumours on when you'll have the t-shirts ready? :hihi:

"a friend of mine who's a friend of the owner's nephew of cafepress, has received a mysterious large order of white/black/pink shirts...he is not able to say whether they are the HTGTH shirts, but we could be into something here. Stay tuned as he's emailed cafepress webmaster demanding a response..."

I don't know if this is what you have in mind...it could be worth finding out though.

http://www.berda.com/t-shirts_short_sleeve.shtml

http://www.zazzle.com/create/custom/apparel.asp?CMP=KNC-GJ6658976473

http://www.spreadshirt.de/shop.php?sid=37778&sid=37778&affiliate=23720

If each shirt cost $20, we could always negociate with the merchant a cheaper price due to volume. Maybe $12 who knows.

I'm glad you started your forum & site with the sole intent not to gain money from people. unlike other sites that use there forum as a gateway to many money market accounts   makes me very uneasy as a fan.

Jarmo ----- use should make commissons off ebay ticket scalpers.... you would make a killing --  ok that is sarcarsm for its just plain wrong.  I just call it as I see it.

About the shirts....   JMO -  White would suck...    Maybe an off white type or grey. & a light blue. Black would be my last personal choice.

I guess it should be cheaper to pass an order to China or somewhere even with some shipping fee.

I took a quick look at them.

One of them didn't do black shirts and another was based in Europe.

Either we let everybody order t-shirts from a company that works like Cafepress or we order a bunch and then mail them out to those that ordered t-shirts.

/jarmo

Yeah, that could be a pain...

I guess somebody could volunteer to receive the large order of shirts to then distribute them individually. I know it would be a tedious task to do, we could pay that person let's say 5 bucks for shipping ( and handling) through paypal or stormpay.

Title: Re: Jarmo, why dont you advertise on the site?
Post by: Jim on November 30, 2004, 05:14:28 PM
Yeah, I was just about to suggest using paypal.

But yeah, I guess distribution would be difficult...

...But maybe with such a large order, you could get it dispatched to say two addresses (it's not like they'd all be in one package), and then they could just print out addresses and...

...Yes. Yes it would be a pain.

By now you could make money by running ads for sure. At least enough to offset the cost of running the site. Doesn't need to be popups.....

To each his own.

Title: Re: Jarmo, why dont you advertise on the site?
Post by: Ignatius on December 02, 2004, 07:36:43 AM
Jarmo, I have few ideas/suggestion on how we could do this. Let me know if it suits.

Also, if anybody else wants to collaborate, please feel free to help out.

1.- I think we could start by posting a thread on the GNR section to have as much exposure as possible. Something like "The HTGTH pre-order shirt thread". We would collect people's usernames/country of residence/shirt size to begin with and let it run for a week. This will let us know how many people are interested. No price will be given as we just want to know how many will be interested to then get a better rate. People know that the price will be somewhere between 15 - 25 € shipping included anyway.

2.- In the mean time, I will be getting the shipping rate from my post office. For those who don't know, I live in Spain. So the rate I'd get would be pretty similar to any country in Europe. We could have two different shipping fees. Europe and International. Something like 3€ Europe, 6€ international. Once I know how much we'll be charged for shipping, I will give you the shipping rates ( international, Europe) so you can add that ( depending on the country of residence) to the price of the t-shirt. For example, let's say each t-shirt will be 12€ you will add either 3 €? - if the member lives in Europe or 6 € if the member lives overseas - these rates are hypothetical obviously.

Note. They will be cases I assume where if the member lives in Taiwan, the shipping fees may be a little higher, I will let you know based on the information gathered regarding their country of residence.

3.- Once we know how much will be the price + shipping, we should update the pre-order thread with the price + shipping info. We would point out than the price difference is merely for shipping only. Actually, we could start two threads, one will be like " Order Your HTGTH Shirt Now - Outside of Europe Members" and " Order your HTGTH Shirt now - Europe Members"

4.- Payment system could be paypal or stormpay. When people make a payment to you, you will require their name, email address, postal address, username( very important) and shirt size. This info must be given when making payment to you.

5.- Once you collect payment from users, you could proceed to place the order with the shirt company and tell them to send the shirts to me so I can start with shipping. You could then send me the total shipping fees payment through paypal, so I can mail each shirt individually. For example, lets say there are 35 european members and 60 international, if we take the hypothetical rates given above ( 3€ europe - 6€ international) the shipping fees will be 35X3= 105 ( for europe) 60X6=360 ( for international) so the total will be 465€.

6.- Also, You will need to email me everybody's address along with their usernames, emails and all the info I would need to mail the shirts.

Note. I think we should use only one curreny. If we start talking in US Dollars, then back in Euros, then back in US Dollars...we are gonna make people very confused. We should stick with one currency only and work with it throughout the entire proccess. We could supply a currency conversion if people need it.

If we get overwhelmed with the amount of orders, we could place an initial order of 100. A month later, we could do another 100, a month later another 100...and so on.

Let me know if you want to proceed then.

Put 'em up on ebay, post a link to your seller page on the main page, and watch 'em fly. Let ebay handle shipping cost calculation and let paypal handle the money transfer issues.  The "presell" thread would be a great idea to gauge interest to know how many to order, though.

They still need to be printed.

The question is, would I print them and then mail them myself or let some company handle the printing and mailing.

At the moment, I'm more concerned about getting the board "back" into running normally than the t-shirts. But once the server issue is fixed, I'll start looking more seriously.

I've had to disable all search related features since they slow the board down.

I hope that will get fixed once the "tweaking" is done.....

Hopefully that is what's causing the board to slow down, if it's not then I need to start looking for reasons again...  :nervous:

Hi, for those of you that don't know me, I do this for a living. I own a clothing company. Whatever I say from now on, it refers only to TOP-QUALITY T-SHIRTS & PRINTS. Not that cafe-press shit or the ones you buy at concerts. Those suck. I know what I'm talking about.

The China option:

When you buy from China you get advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: REALLY LOW PRICES (2-4 euros/t-shirt), great work, shipping is included in the REALLY LOW PRICE.

Disadvantages: You gotta pay the money in advance, your order minimum would have to be 500-600 t-shirts (just estimating, from what I remember), what I don't remember is if the 500 is per colour or for the whole order. I can ask for details tomorrow and have them until Friday or next week.

I could make the shirts but you need to know some things first...

I think I've sent Jarmo a t-shirt from the ones I made for Gunsnroses.gr. I did about 700 t-shirts.

1) If I produce them in Greece they'll cost about 7-8 euros/t-shirt. AGAIN, I'm only talking about TOP-QUALITY T-SHIRTS & PRINTS, nothing less is good enough for me.

2) The minimum would have to be 150 pieces/colour.

3) The print would have to be limited down to 3 colours MAX. When Jarmo made some t-shirts at cafepress.com a couple of years ago, the prints were only of 2 colours. Black and Red.

4) It would be stupid to send them to another country so the guy there can re-send them, cause it would rise the price up to 2 euros per t-shirt.

I don't have a problem producing them and sending them, or ordering them from China and sending them. But I can't take orders from each member of htgth.com and lose time with receiving money.

That would have to be made from another person. I can do everything else as long as someone provides me the list of the people that should receive the t-shirts and the money for the t-shirts and the postage ofcourse.

why not set up a topic on main page or HTGTH main page detailing what to do and where to send money either Paypal or something like that and once the orders hit say 100 - 200 start producing it may mean a month or two waiting for people at beginning of queue but i know i would be willing to wait
