Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I found this and thought it quite interesting.

Thanks for posting that, it was an interesting read. I never really understood why so many people thought that image was offensive  ???

Thanks for posting this, it's quite interesting.

I've always thought Robert Williams made a lot of money from his  painting, althoughthe cover has eventually changed.

I would say he profited indirectly through exposure, although by the sounds of things he was reasonable well known in underground comic circles prior to this - apparently he worked with Crumb etc..which I didnt know

But the cross with the skeletons, where does that come from?

I'm not questioning the profit his has surely made by painting AFD.  I think he was already a famous pop artist when axl approached him, but he has sure profited from it, although he was almost sacked by feminists all over the States  :hihi:

I was just saying that I thought he made big money from the painting being used.

That's the reasoning you get from reading the interview, but in order to have a nice clear view, we should get to know Axl's version. A new Axl rant in the making??

"This next song is dedicated to the painter of the cover of our first (geffen) album, who's name just escapes me..... :hihi:. Anyway, these guys can play the hell out of those songs".

On the other hand - it opened the world up to his work......sounded like he wasn't doing anything with that painting anyhow...

Look in your AFD booklet. I think it's mentioned there.

I don't remember the guy's name.

Williams seems a little off base on this topic.  The first question is how many of these "14 million" albums sold had his artwork on the cover, or for that matter even anywhere in the album?  Second if you're going to sell your art to a no name band, you can't expect to make a lot of money out of it.  Either the band will become famous or not, and probably not.
