Title: Madagascar and the blues are b-sides?
Post by: Wheres Izzy on August 09, 2004, 09:30:57 PM
I don't even remember where I read it on the board, but someone said that axl said the blues and madagascar are going to be b-sides? Out of everything I have heard they're far and away my favorite. Both kick ass. I want to know if anyone knows anything about this. I really hope CD isn't an album of songs like rhiad and silk worms (which I hate) if it ever comes out.

I don't think the are going to be "b-sides". But they just they won't be released as singles.
like you, I hope the album won't be a techno/indus rock style album. It would be a total desaster musically and comercialy. I would like to never, never EVER heard once in my life a song like "my world" or "silkworms" or "oh my god" or other things like that. Absolutely never.
I hope we will have a Classic-Rock album. The perfect album would be a mix between Appetite and the best of the "Use Your Illusion". both fantastic raw rock tracks with killer guitar riffs and solos, and long epic ballad songs with piano like Estranged and November Rain and with blues-rock tracks, just a record with a pure Rock n' Roll and a blues-rock vibe + long epic ballads.
That would be the perfect album.

It's getting old... The rock vibe will be there, but it will have some other textures and sounds from keyboards, samplers and other sound fx. Some of those elements were in GNR albums before (Axl's voice effects, samplers and quotes in Coma, etc.). It will be a mix between GNR and other styles, but it will not be a techno or hip-hop album, as some thinks. I don't know, I'm just thinking with the songs we already know as the point. I didn't heard anything like hip-hop or techno in those tunes...
BTW, nobody knows if Maddy, The Blues or the other songs are going to be in CD or will only be released as b-sides. Axl said they won't be singles, but it was about 2 years ago.

i think its dumb to think that those songs are gonna  be B- side songs, NO FUCKIN' WAY!!
they are just too great to call em' little songs or some shit. The Blues alone is a masterpeice to me, over all the newer songs evn though i love em' all

The Blues is one of the best songs I've heard in the last few years.  Great lyrics, and musically it's pretty amazing.  It would be a great single, almost guaranteed to be a big hit.  If it's not a single it better be at least on the album.  It's right up there with the best GnR ballads from the old band.

I wouldn't necessarily call them "b-sides", but apparently there are songs that are better, which is amazing. It's been said that 'This I Love' is Axl's best song ever...

Do you remember where you've heard this? I hope it's true... but I can't see it topping stuff like Estranged.

Well, Axl's been working on it since the 'UYI' days, maybe even earlier. It's been said to be his most personal, emotional, heaviest song he's ever written...

Axl said the song's he'd played on tour wouldn't be singles - so in other words he vanished for 10 years to return with songs he seemingly picked at random - not even Axl is that strange.

Yep he said that at London didn't they weren't gonna be singles I think they are album fillers which is cool I am just wondering the singles must sound fucking awesome if Maddy and Blues are filler

the blues and maddy being b-sides is a bullshit rumour from back when ivan from argentina said that he met axl at a restaurant wearing a ribbon or something..

so they're probably not b-sides..  : ok:

Personally it excites me to think these will be the lesser songs on the album.
Then again, my expectation level has climbed pretty high over a decade.

I don't think anything on this album will be 'filler'.

Why does everyone take that Axl quote out of context? Its getting pretty old.

All Axl said at that show is that the band was playing songs that "they weren't considering putting out as singles or anything." He never said that they wouldn't make the album. I doubt Axl would play "Madagascar" at the VMAs if it wasn't at least going to be on the album.

in add, "madagascar" has a great potencial of impact for a large audience. Same for The Blues. So for me they will be included on the album.

I doubt very seriously that they will be b-sides. I just do not believe it.

I can't see any problems with Maddie and The Blues being b-sides. I wan to hear as much new songs as possibles. If both songs will be only b-sides, that's fine for me - I'll can listen to them anyways. And, if those 2 songs are b-sides, that means CD will have even better songs...
