ROCK ON CONTRABAND

There are tons of beastie fans left, plus they did the movie awards, they still have a huge fan base , ch ch check it out is doing really good. What bothers me is that their new song is considered rock// It's clearly not even thought they have rock roots,, This new song soumnds so much to me like their old stuff, it's been done 100 times already

Dizzy hey, they don't know how many albums are actually sold man, it is shipped albums to places like Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Sam Goody ect here in the states anyways. Like 256,000 copies is the moved number but probably about only 200,000 people have the album actually.

They will go gold in the states in 2 more weeks for sure.

If VR only falls to #2 next week and can sell another 150,00 they will hit gold within 2 more weeks. IMO they should have FTP single come out sometime in July, as Slither has been on the radio for quite a while, and they want FTP to hit before VR leave the top 10.

VR would be great it if could hit platinum

Velvet Revolver second week dropped quite a bit.

LW  TW
1     3    VELVET REVOLVER RCA/RMG 120,170 -53%
                    CONTRABAND

Salls dropping off that fast isnt gonna be good for the guys. They are gonna need to speed up their second single before the album is lost. It dropped 53% look at the rest of the chart and you wont find another album that has dropped that much.  Time to release FTP to keep sales up.

Dropping 50% after the first week isn't unusual...  No other album dropped by that much, but no other album sold a quarter million last week.  I agree though, if Fall to Pieces is their next single, they need to get it out there and hope it catches on.

They slipped on the album charts damnitt lol.... I hope they hold next week or at least regain.

They are #1 on the Modern rock chart finally and #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart (The more competitive one) for the 2nd week in a row.

They dropped to 7 this week which kinda sucks.  That puts them over 400,000 copies though, should go gold in a week or two.

These guys really need to put out another single though, and keep their name in the public!

I've been saying it for weeks they need a slower ballad song to crossover. They lost 52% in the second week and 35% this week, if they dont do something soon and loose another 30% next week they will sell less then 50,000

A 2 day/ 2 concert stop for VR would help out alot. If they announced the concert a month or two in advance and put out a second single, I bet the album would pick up very fast. They sold well here in the states because had the hype and could see them.

Yeah, being in the US i'm kind of blessed I live 2.5 hours between Detroit and CHicago, (the 3 and 6th largest US cities) So I do get plently of chances. I know what you mean about festivals. I want to see Judas Priest, really bad. THey are touring with OZZFEST I dont want to pay alot of money to see a short set. So Im opting out and not going and hoping they do an arena tour in the fall

GH at 18 in Australia. 17 weeks in the chart. Platinum.

Contraband at 45. 6 weeks in the chart. Gold.

Very disappointing. Although there have been no promo appearances or anything.

Makes me think that VR might not play down here judging on current album sales.

Don't lose hope just yet, Duff was quoted as saying they want to play Big Day Out next year and Slash also said they want to tour Australia soon.

Plus both Duff's solo band and Slash's Snakepit were gonna tour here to promote their releases back in 1994 and 2000, regardless of album sales.

I think the fact that Contraband charted at all when Snakepit didn't, is pretty damn good.

Some Kind of Monster the soundtrack to their documentary. So its not a new studio album just some live tracks. Here's Amazon's desription.

This CD features the title track from the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster (also found on St. Anger), plus tracks recorded live on June 11, 2003, in Paris, France, during one of the three club shows performed on the hottest day in French history. This unique CD-T features live versions of several cuts from the group's earliest days, plus a band T- shirt.

1. Some Kind Of Monster
2. The Four Horsemen (live)
3. Damage, Inc. (live)
4. Leper Messiah (live)
5. Motorbreath (live)
6. Ride The Lightning (live)
7. Hit The Lights (live)
8. Some Kind Of Monster (edit)

From MTV.com -

On The Move

Velvet Revolver's recent newsmaking escapades ? a rescheduled free show in Hollywood on Thursday that was supposed to take place last Tuesday (October 12), but city officials wouldn't allow them to play atop the Hustler Store ? helped their debut, Contraband, jump up eight spots to #31. Sales should continue to bode well for the rockers throughout their five-week fall tour, which kicked off Saturday.

28 29 VELVET REVOLVER RCA/RMG 32,246 +1%

and they got a mention on the weekly sales article:

A pair of country albums also showed upward movement, with Warner Bros. Nashville?s Big & Rich (#33-21, +28%) and Epic/Sony Nashville?s Gretchen Wilson (#26-22) both showing double-digit gains.

Columbia/CRG?s Switchfoot (#39, +4%) and RCA/RMG?s Velvet Revolver (#29, +1%) also register upticks, with hit singles now crossing to Top 40.

I guess that means Velvet Revolver will be on the Billboard list next week.

Contraband dropped to #42 this week.... but there was no change in their sales, so that's not a bad drop considering there were 16 new albums ahead of them this week.

28 42 VELVET REVOLVER RCA/RMG 32,128 0%

I believe that puts them over 1,200k

Contraband fell off the Top 50 last week... not a big suprise with all the fourth quarter "Greatest Hits" releases and stuff... but the repackaged Contraband jumped back up to #44... not that high, but it's sales are higher than they've been for at least the past five months:

-- 44 VELVET REVOLVER RCA/RMG 49,492 --

Pretty decent for the amount of time it's been out, here's the chart for the last week, there's some pretty big jumps all across the board:

The B-Sides and Christmas I guess, cuz they had another increase this week, over 50,000:

44 42 VELVET REVOLVER RCA/RMG 51,216 +3%

With the Grammy nominations out now, they might be able to keep up the high sales... and If they win a few it should boost them even more... the new single should help too (DLT I guess?), especially if they make a video.

I guess this album has some legs.  Clearly the biggest rock band of the year.   : ok:

100,000 in two weeks is really cool this far down the line

It's doing really well. Most albums that sells under 300K under it's first week usually drops off top 50 within 20 weeks. Cool  :smoking:

True, but they are down 2 spots. It's Christmas season and everyobody is out there buying albums. It doesn't have anything to do with new video or the grammy nominations. Had the album climbed 15 spots, I would have definitely be impressed, but the album remains where it has been over the past two months. Huge % percentage, but like I said, this is not exclusive of VR.

Who are all teh people that buy albums because of the holidays and why do they pick an album like contraband..?

I've never once bought an album because it was a holiday, but I have after a holiday because I had money to spend.. I guess 20,000 people or so are getting contraband for christmas? :o

False, it was up two spots.

Thats kind of irrelevant.  Questioning why the albums selling is really nitpicking.  The point is, its selling.

the album remains where it has been over the past two months.

Considering the amount of releases over that time, thats pretty impressive.  And VR had one of the largest jumps that week, so...Bottom line, it sold 150,000-plus in 3 weeks - over 6 months after release.

Ok, let me explain.

Ok, what I'm trying to say is if VR was in position 42 last week having sold around 40,000 copies, why/how if Contraband album sales increase a whopping 26% this week, not only remains in the same position, but loses two spots? ?

Could this be because people are buying a lot of albums these days? Not just VR albums, but any other albums that happen to be in the top 50?

Irrelevant? Ok, the album is up two spots and yeah it's selling very well. But wouldn't you agree that a 26% increase, meaning 15,000 copies may have to do with the fact that the whole chart has experience a similar increase??

I mean, if VR had climbed 15 spots, I would've said, yeah, this is fucking impressive, but people, VR is up two freaking spots having sold 15,000 more copies this week!!

But the whole chart isnt.  In the week that were discussing, I think only two other albums (out of 50) had a similarly high increase.

 ???

VR was selling an average of 33,000 a week for months.  They sold 64,000 that week.  They also sold 50,000 in the two weeks prior.  Thats more than theyve sold since the second week of July.  But if you dont think selling nearly double what theyve been averaging for months, almost 7 months in, is impressive...then what can I tell you?  Keep thinking that.  : ok:

Despite the obvious post-Christmas slide, sales should pick up again (however little) when the new video starts airing.

no doubt, grammy nod, new viddeo for dlt, back to touring in the states..

Vr is defiently working for everything, they haven't gotten good mtv airtime since slither came out..  Both of their first vids did really good as did their debut album but the media like mtv doesn't give them tehir do like they do for everyone else..  Vr could easily be over 2 milion if they got that attention..

Their videos are hardly ever on, but other's videos off the charts are still played alot..

They have feel of the map, their publicity totally stopped.. I think they did it themselves by being so busy... Contraband is a little over 1.7 million in the usa,. Sucks dlt never took of twas a good tune to help promote the album..

it's safe to say they aren't going to get anything ,more out of CB even if they use ygnr as a hold over single to keep teh name around.. They really didn't keep much in the public when dlt went out they didn't even support it like the prior two singles.. CB's chart placing is done..

I would think they are all done but who knows... Alot of people will disagree with me but I think releasing Fall To pIeces was a mistake or they should have waited... I know it was a success but I think it put a sour taste in alot of Hard Rock fans mouths.. I know alot of people that like VR and Contraband but hate that song... Others that don't like VR because of it.... Anyway, I doubt there will be anymore singles.. Its time to get ready for the next album. I really think thi sband has come together and I think the new song kicks ass. I can't wait to see whats next...

This is from today's - July 18, 2005 - NY Post newspaper ... It says Contraband was certified double platinum last week.

Keep it clean
SCOTT Weiland is a free man.? The skeletal Velvet Revolver singer - who's been arrested numerous times for cocaine and heroin possession - was finally acquitted last week of all felony charges stemming from a 2003 drug bust after successfully completing a rehab program.? The acquittal means Weiland no longer has to report to his probation officer, which we hope doesn't tempt him to resume his drug-devouring ways.? Also last week, Velvet Revolver's debut album, "Contraband" was certified double platinum.

That doesn't seem right... the album isn't selling anymore and I think it's total is around 1.6, 1.7 million.  Would they really ship 2 million considering the album has already been out for over a year?

It didn't sound right to me neither but that is what the paper says.
Is it possible that maybe they got the Contraband numbers confused with the GNR Greatest Hits numbers?? ???

"Contraband" Certified Double-Platinum

VELVET REVOLVER's "Contraband" has been certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments in excess of two million copies in the United States, according to the Associated Press (the album has shifted 1,775,000 units in the U.S. to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan).
