VELVET REVOLVER: Tour Dates Announced - Apr. 15, 2004

VELVET REVOLVER will jump-start the June 8 release of their much-anticipated debut album, "Contraband" (RCA), with their first-ever tour. Launching May 13 in St. Louis, the intimate venue trek will take the band ? who've only played one show before (last year in Los Angeles) ? across the U.S. into such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Washington, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco and Detroit, among others.

"Slither", the album's first single, exploded at radio in its first week of release, airing on over 130 stations. The song was #1 Most Added at Modern Rock, Active Rock and Mainstream Rock.

For the "Slither" video, VELVET REVOLVER ? lead vocalist Scott Weiland, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Dave Kushner ? joined forces with video director Kevin Kerslake (NIRVANA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, IGGY POP). The band performed the powerful song in an underground "catacomb party" in front of hundreds of fans packed into the sprawling basement of a downtown Los Angeles warehouse. Other portions of the "Slither" video are being shot in Europe, where "catacomb parties" take place underground, reachable only by following a series of clues and traveling through the maze of tunnels that lay nearly a half-mile underneath the city. Look for the "Slither" video to premiere Tuesday, April 27 at 9:00 PM Eastern/Pacific as part of MTV2 "Makes The Video".

VELVET REVOLVER tour dates:

May 13 - St. Louis, MO @ The Pageant

The Pageant, YES! That's on the street where I work... it's a smaller venue, theatre like. The big bands they usually show there are bands like The Strokes, etc.
I hope it's Gen Adm.

Anyone else planning going to this show?

Hahaha... it's decent size.  I've never actually been there, but according to my coworkers, it's about the size of 1st Ave, maybe smaller.

Sounds like there's a few HTGTHer's going to the Quest.  We should meet up sometime during the concert and see what total punks we are in real life!   ;D  : ok:

Yeah, St. Louis isn't listed, but it was confirmed by the venue earlier today.

I wonder what type of merch they'll have for sale for this tour.

I think it's great they're playing smaller venues. And tickets are reasonably priced, 20 bucks aint bad for this beast of a band!

Velvet Revolver To Make Things 'Tight And Sweaty' In May

It might not have seemed possible just a few months ago, but Velvet Revolver ? whose lead singer was almost lost to them ? are going to hit the road.

The band has just one full show under its belt. Velvet Revolver have had hardly any other occasion to play with singer Scott Weiland because since their show last June he's been in and out of court and rehab, with his last stint threatening to keep him in lockdown until July. That order was modified last month, sending Weiland to a different level of live-in rehab and after-care where he would have more freedom to come and go.

Though Velvet Revolver were able to finish their forthcoming debut, Contraband, despite Weiland's limited availability, getting the tour lined up is what made the band feel like it was finally getting in gear.

"We were talking today to Scott, like, 'Can you imagine we'd get to this point?' " guitarist Slash said. "It's been rough, step A to step B, but it's a blast. We still have a record release coming and a whole tour to go, and that's as much as you can ask for. Getting started is the best part."

"When you start a band, you feel like five young punks," bassist Duff McKagan said. "After what we've been through and everything, we feel like five young punks again."

The tour is going to concentrate on club and theater shows, Slash said, so that they can get "toe-to-toe" with the crowd. "You should always be tight and sweaty," he said.

After the club tour, Velvet Revolver plan to travel to Europe for the festival season. Once there, they hope to fit in a few club gigs as well, just to have it both ways.

"It's great to play as a headliner," Slash said, "but just to break it up, playing festivals with other bands is more exciting than trying to go out on your own."

"That's what keeps a band real," McKagan said, "when you can hear the roar between songs. Hopefully, there's a roar ... or a few claps."

Still, as exciting as announcing the tour is to them, it doesn't quite take the place of actually being on tour, which is what they say is needed to convince them that this isn't just a pipe dream.

"When I see the bus pull up," Slash said, "then I'll know it's real."

Meanwhile, the band's video for "Slither," which was released to radio this week, premieres April 27 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV2's "Velvet Revolver Makes a Video Premiere".

Velvet Revolver tour dates, according to RCA Records:

5/13 - St. Louis, MO @ Pageant
5/14 - Kansas City, MO @ Memorial Hall
5/15 - Minneapolis, MN @ Quest
5/19 - Chicago, IL @ The Riviera
5/20 - Detroit, MI @ TBA
5/21 - Toronto, ON @ Kool Haus
5/26 - New York, NY @ Roseland
5/27 - Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club
5/28 - Philadelphia, PA @ Electric Factory
5/29 - Boston, MA @ TBA
6/4 - Portland, OR @ Roseland
6/5 - Seattle, WA @ Moore Theater
6/7 - San Francisco, CA @ Warfield
6/8 - Los Angeles, CA @ Wiltern Theatre
6/9 - Los Angeles, CA @ Wiltern Theatre

Anyone else remember a certain interview about getting things from point A to point B?  :hihi:   This is how to do it, Axl...

I'm not too confident about Weiland's ability to stay clean (given his own interview), but VR has made more success in connecting the dots.

I am feeling very weird anticipating what Guns songs VR is going to play on their tour.  I dont mind them playing Its So Easy, but in a way, it would piss me off if they did Paradise City, Rocket Queen, NR, etc.  I cant picture those songs without Axl.

Before you jump on me,  I cant picture those songs without Slash & Duff either, so I am equally pissed about nuGNR being a cover band and playing those songs.  But two wrongs dont a make a right.   :-\

I'd rather have a shorter concert and have them keep the old-band songs to a minimum.  Covering other songs would be cool though (like they did w/ Pink Floyd's Money).  Here's hoping for a good tour.

Title: Re:VR TOUR DATES HERE!
Post by: Dizzy on April 18, 2004, 04:08:29 PM
I doubt VR is going to play very many GNR songs.  Slash said himself that he didn't want to play them with Snakepit because the songs were too easily associated with GNR.  I think they'd be even moreso now because VR is looking to make a name for themselves apart from GNR.

So we may get "Brownstone" or "It's So Easy", but I doubt we'd hear the ones you mentioned.

BTW, does anyone know when tickets go onsale?  Ticketmaster only lists a Minnesota show so far.

Boy you are delusional.  Yeah, I'm sure the band sat down and said, "Remember the riot back in 1991?  We are going to play there first because of Axl, because our entire career is going to center around taking shots at Axl!  To hell with making music, we just want to take shots at Axl!"   ::)

And you're ignorant to boot.  Tour managers and promoters schedule the locations and decide in which order to play the cities.

Try getting informed before you make such absurd assertations.

What a great way to leave the USA!

Very much anticipating seeing VR. They will be more successful than Audioslave. They are so much livelier and Weiland has proven to be a great match for Slash's tight guitar licks!

Tickets go on sale on Friday. Look forward to seeing other GNR/STP/VR fans from these message boards before the show.

Hey Kockstar99 you like coming here and starting up GN'R vs VR bullshit in all these threads here don't you?

Why do you insist that the whole basis of VR's existence is to upset Axl?
It is not possible to like both bands? I do, and I'm sure many others here do too.

I'm sure Slash, Duff & Matt are all bitter about the whole GN'R thing but they are hardly running around at every oppotunity trying to pull the rug out from under the guy. For the most part Axl seems to do that himself...

Get over it.

all what threads?? I never post in the VR section coz i dont really give a fuck about VR..This was in fact my first thread to post on in the VR section.. I never even enter this fucking section.. I wasnt "starting up shit" ..I made the observation that I thought having opening nite in St Louis was a little odd.. If you cant understand why then theres no use explaining it to you..

since you brought it up..Ill bet my years paycheck to you that Axl Rose does not show up at any of VR's shows and then go public with it .....

For the most part Axl seems to do that himself...
oooo a nice little axl rose bash to finish!!!! how kewl!!!
