Title: Axl and Thin Lizzy
Post by: Apetite4Dstrctn on February 20, 2004, 11:36:04 AM
We know Axl has the Black Rose tattoo off the Thin Lizzy album cover, but does any one have any articles where axl mentions Thin Lizzy? If some one has some information on that it would be truly appreciated.

Thin Lizzy is a band I love though they were at thier prime before I could knoiw what "good" music was, they definitly influenced my tastes (my uncle trevor and aunt ann were fans). I believe they did influence Axl in thier music (believe it or not, some GR songs remind me of Thin Lizzy).

They were a good band who influenced others.... Metallica did a cover of thier version of Whisky In The Jar (a traditional Irish song). There are a load of Thin Lizzy songs that a re great but rarely spoken about these days... The Boys Are Back In Town for example is a song that many people only know other bands versions... Anyways, I don't know what I'm getting at here except Phil Lynott was a great singer and Thin Lizzy a great band who influenced many, including Axl Rose.

Thanks for reading

Willie

I saw Thin Lizzy open for Deep Purple (another band which I think had a major influence on Axl) last week. It was off the hizzy! John Sykes is one of the coolest rock stars ever. They dedicated the show to Phil. John's a really good singer too and totally did the songs justice. He's also one of my favorite guitar players. The guitar solo he did on Crying in the Rain (Whitesnake) is the most brutal and ruthless guitar solo ever! Thin Lizzy kick ass. They are one of the most underrated bands, especially in the US, where all people know about is the boys are back in town and only cuz they heard it in some stupid beer commercial. Now don't even get me started on how much Deep Purple rocked! I highly recommend seeing these bands live!

Axl wore a Deep Purple shirt in Estranged when he's leaving his house and going into the limousine.

Is that really a Deep Purple shirt?  I thought it was possible, then I just told myself, "Nah, it's just a regular t-shirt with the word deep written on it."  Someone help me out.  ???
Thanks.

Oh, and thanks for the Deep Purple flashback.  I just flashed back to 1985 and my brother playing guitar butchering the opening riff to Smoke on the Water...moments b4 me telling him this, and him proceeding to kick my ass!   :crying:

After the CBGB show in NY Axl gave an interview and talked about his tattoo. He said his only regreat in life is that Phil died on him before he had a chance to show him the tattoo.

I also remember reading that the Black Rose album was very important to him, so much so that he got it tattooed on himself.
In the early days he wanted to make music as good as Black Rose, or somthing to that effect.

Do yourself a favor, go and find that album, it fucking ROCKS, period.

Also, I had heard during the mid 90's about a Thin Lizzy tribute album that Axl was supposedly involved in. I think he was gonna sing "Cold Sweat" Anyone remember this?
Or am I fuckin' crazy?
