Lisbon's Rock in Rio Boasts Sting, Sanz

NEW YORK/MIAMI (Billboard) - Sting is the latest artist confirmed to play the Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival, set for May 29-30 and June 3-6 at the Bela Vista Parque in Lisbon.
Metallica (news - web sites) will also perform on the event's main stage, as will Alejandro Sanz (news), Guns N'Roses, Xutos & Pontapes, Ivete Sangalo and Rui Veloso.
About 70 acts will perform 120 hours of music across several stages during the event. An average of 100,000 people per day are expected to attend. Along with the main, or "world stage," that will boast international as well as Brazilian (news - web sites) and Portuguese acts, the Rock in Rio will also boast a "roots tent" with world music acts and an "electro tent" with DJs.
Rock in Rio-Lisbon is modeled after the original Rock in Rio, which debuted in 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and had subsequent editions in 1991 and 2001. The first version of the fest featured performances by Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, AC/DC and others. The 2001 edition featured Britney Spears (news), Beck, Dave Matthews Band, R.E.M (news - web sites)., Sting, James Taylor (news) and Sheryl Crow (news).
