SLAM DUNK!!!

« on: October 26, 2003, 07:34:31 PM »

Since there's a new poll question on the main site-page each week, I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where we can say why we voted the way we did.  So I'll start....

Even though Paradise City is a great choice to end the show with and the band's choice to do alot of the old material was what - IMO - the fans wanted to hear, they did what they needed to do with the last tour.  So with the new line-up and all the new material, I'm kinda tired of all the old stuff.  I mean we've been hearing it for years and years now.  I'd like to see a show with ALL new material.  So that's why I voted "NO" to 'should GNR always end their shows with Paradise City'.

I feel the same way.  The song is the perfect conclusion for the old band.  But the new band needs to play their own songs.

i voted yes because i think pc is one of the greatest songs ever and it's one hell of a way to end a show with... although it belongs to the old era, it still belongs to the new one, just like nr, wttj, patience and so on.. i would not appreciate a gn'r show with only new songs, ok i would appreciate it, but there is alway room for old songs... if not they'd have to play the the new record from the top to the end..  and that would not satticfy the most of the crowd. it is important to know the last song they're playing, and the fack that it is the song everybody likes it makes the crowd go absolutely ballistic in the end.. please take me home.. hell the song fits so fine as end to a show too.. there are no gn'r songs i would rather have ending a show.. as for an opener, now thats a whole different story...

plus if gn'r ever again did a show with no old songs.... they'd shoot themself in the foot, nimo but in many others... i like it when the not so hardcore dude next to me bangs his head off too... it's the whole package i guess...

cool thread btw, interesting to hear about the votes

I voted yes because I think it's the perfect way to end the show.

I voted "Yes" to 'will GNR play a New Years Eve show' because that's what they did as a dry run prior to the tour.  So since I'm hoping that CD will be released early next year, I think they'll do a New Years Eve show with all new material to start the promotions going for the new album.  Grin

LOL, are you joking?

Imagine there was a poll after Rio asking if you thought the CD would be out by 2004... you would've probably said "Axl's not a fuckin retard, of course he's going to release it within the next 3 years" to anyone that said it wouldn't be out by now.  Look where we are, the people have learned not to expect anything.   ok

I'm still confident....2004 will be the year, RIR4 must be the sign we have been looking for...would it make sense just to do a one off show then disappear again......hmmmm

It didn't make sense to start the Chinese Democracy world tour and then abort it after a month either.... then hide away with 'no comment' for over a year

I don't believe any rumors anymore... I have little faith axl can pull his head outta the sand and release this monster... he's too insecure

I'm one of the biggest axl supporters around here, but i'm just trying to be realistic...

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.... i've had my hopes high since Oh My God...

tired of being disappointed... so now i have no expectations of him to deliver

That's exactly what I thought in 2001. However, I'm optimistic and voted "before RIR Lisbon".

Great post!

I have a lot of hope and sympathy for Axl and I'm on his side at the end of the day.

But this post is the best characterization of why such profound doubts about the band/album exist. I share these doubts while maintaining a certain level of optimism. But it's almost sickening to think back 3 years - the time of the first Vegas show and RIR, when the album already seemed about 2 years overdue - and how badly things have gone since. Fortunately Axl isn't in charge of a hospital or a soup kitchen. People would be dying.

Well for the current poll.... I'd have to say the biggest disappointment was that Danny was actually right.  nervous

I voted "Yes" to being surpised that GNR cancelled Rio-Lisbon because I thought that show had special meaning for Axl and because it's to benefit a children's charity.  Undecided

I was thinking this way because even if GNR had planned on doing alot more new material in this show (that only the line-up who had been playing it for a while would be comfortable enough with), two months is more than enough time (IMO) to switch gears to do the old songs with either the line-up "as is" or with a replacement for the guitarist that left.

Huh Or am I wrong about two months being enough time to make a change like that?  I don't play guitar but I read how a lot of the members here learn or play the old songs.  So I would think that an established guitarist wouldn't find the old material that difficult to play because they're all songs that everyone's heard a gazzillion times.

And if I am wrong about the two months being enough time, can I plead "guitar illiteracy" and change my vote in the poll?  Tongue

I voted I wasn?t surprised. It?s not because I?m pesimistic but because It?s nothing new for Axl to cancel something.
By the way I voted  never on "when do you think Chinese Democracy will  be realesed" althugh I think It could be realesed in a looong while, bt that was noot an option

I'm kind of confused about the current poll - Velvet Revolver's different "color" versions. I haven't done much homework on VR. So, could someone explain this to me?

I voted for the red version because I think that this is the best way to start for a band. Red=passion. And there's should be a lot of it in 'Contraband'.
