As you might have noticed I love these "The Blues" threads.

1. The Blues - Quick
2. Madagascar
3. The Blues - Ballad

Actually, The Blues is one of my favorite GNR songs ever! Can?t wait for a studio quick version (I hope it exists and gets released somehow).

The Blues is by far the best. The audio clips in Madgascar really annoy me after a while as they seem to go on forever and you can't hear the solo.

It's hard say but I think The blues is a little bit better..The Blues has fine solo that Madacascar doesn't really have.

I know we all love are Madatnascars and blues but how many damn NR can u have! i belive "the blues" wins out of those two but i think that Axl needs to stay way from the piano and stay closer to the CD sound that song is the best that i have herd so far

I would have to go with Madagascar.

The lyrics are beautiful ('bless them that they may grow old')

I like how his voice sounds in it.

It shows how Axl has been experimenting with music (in a non-industrial-sounding way), and I'm impressed with the results.  ok

Madagascar.  I've played this song more than any others the past few years.  It just keeps growing on you, it better be on the album.

Technically (lyrically, musically, etc.), 'The Blues' is the best song I've ever heard. But emotionally, 'Madagascar' is something of a higher-being of some sort. At some point, in my life, it crossed the line from being a "song" to an "experience". That may sound sappy, but that song has meant more to me than anything I've ever heard. It's so emotionally gripping.

Maddy!

I think he studio version will be unbelievable (esp. from the little cut we heard on the boston promo with the old school Axl voice) -  I have no doubt it will be on the album ('soon')

cant believe its been 11 years since I posted on this topic. what is everyones opinions now? The Blues(street of dreams) is still one of my favourites, but I don't think the album version came out quite as good as the first live performances promised. Madagascar came across perfectly on the album

I love both songs.  It's hard for me to choose between the two.
As for album version vs. live performance versions, for me I was heavily biased as I listened to the early Blues and Madagascar performances a lot.  The RIR Blues and Boston '02 Blues/Madagascars were incredible...along with one portion of a Madagascar live performance from somewhere in Eastern Europe in which Axl put this awesome added vocal in towards the end that was just fucking perfect.
Final album versions, I love 'em both.  It's a tie for me.
I will say, I really thought both tunes suited Axl's performing voice from '02 very well.  Not every old AFD tune was suited for that voice, but these 2 songs sure were in my opinion.

I love all of the CD final studio versions, but in saying that I especially wish that these two songs were closer to their 2002 versions. I think Axl's high voice suited these ballad songs much better, and I've also noticed that they've took a lot of synth out of Street Of Dreams which rocked. I still love those songs with all my heart, I just preferred the earlier additions and vocal style.  peace
