cant believe its been 11 years since I posted on this topic. what is everyones opinions now? The Blues(street of dreams) is still one of my favourites, but I don't think the album version came out quite as good as the first live performances promised. Madagascar came across perfectly on the album

I still think the version from RIR III is the best one.  Really miss that riff at the beginning.

I was greatly disappointed when the lyrics "ok, never mind" were not included on the album version.

Haha, true.  I bet I listened to that bootleg 500 times when it came out.  I did the same thing.

I like the MTV 2002 version part of Madagascar. I think now version is a little bored.

I prefer SOD. This version is the best (old voice): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Bhg6IgS40

Tough to put TIL in the comparison though because it wasn't performed live prior to the release of CD.
Maddy and "The Blues" were staples for years prior to the final version being released.
(That said, I freaking LOVE This I Love, both studio and live...probably live more.  There are some epic live performances of the song out there)

Love them both, but Maddy is one of my all time faves. I could listen to it every day and never get tired of it.

I like the 2002 kinda Madagascar over the blues even 2002 blues.
it's just epic and full of emotion.
and Robin's Backing vocals were spot on!

I'd prefer the 2002 version of SOD as well, but can't really complain about Madagascar...such a unique song !

Why are you reading this?

« Reply #74 on: November 12, 2013, 04:25:22 PM »

It's obvious that both songs were tinkered with a lot during their gestation. We may never know if the studio versions from the early 2000's were better or worse than the versions that appeared on CD.

What I do know is that, even after having first heard Muddy nearly 13 years ago, the voice collage makes the hairs on the ask of my neck stand up every time!  Cool
